259: Chapter 259 Top Predators
Los Angeles, the top floor of Umbrella Headquarters.
A holographic projection floated in the air, playing real-time satellite footage from Siberia.
On the frozen wasteland, a military base lay in tatters; blast doors were twisted outward, and collapsed buildings billowed black smoke.
"Boss, President Clark just signed the 'Global Biological Asset Security Act,' and our New York Special Zone has obtained permanent law enforcement immunity."
Ada Wong's voice came through the encrypted channel.
"The blonde secretary he likes the most is wearing a very special perfume today."
Chen Feng held his coffee while watching the satellite feed. On the map, hundreds of red dots had quietly lit up in Washington, the seat of power for the U Federation.
"Understood," he replied.
The door was pushed open, and Samantha rushed in with messy hair, slamming a stack of reports onto the table.
"Boss, Mia's data is out!" She gulped down a large glass of cold water and pointed to the corner of the office, "That girl is about to tear my laboratory apart!"
Chen Feng took a glance. Mia was crouching in the corner, gnawing on a piece of T-801 Tyrant chest armor, her teeth grinding against the alloy with a "crunching" sound.
"She's hungry." There was an indescribable mix of fanaticism and headache in Samantha's tone, "And not just regular hungry. She's a bottomless pit right now. To let her complete the next stage of evolution, we need at least several hundred mature G-Creatures as fuel."
Several hundred G-Creatures?
Chen Feng tapped the tabletop. These weren't energy bars.
Just then, Red Queen's projection flickered and transformed into the image of a little girl in a red dress.
"Boss, top-level encrypted communication from the Russian Federation detected. Siberia Base No. 7 has sent an S.O.S. signal; communication was cut off three seconds later."
As soon as Red Queen finished speaking, a massive monster with a giant eye on its right shoulder charged out of the ruins on the satellite feed, flipping an armored vehicle into the air.
Chen Feng's fingers paused.
Just what I needed.
"Yuri, that old guy, ended up losing control after all." He smiled.
The terror of the G-Virus lies in its limitless proliferation and mutation. Did Yuri really think that by getting his hands on a few pieces of genetic data, he could replicate a miracle?
It's just perfect for feeding Chen Feng.
"Samantha, bring your precious equipment." Chen Feng stood up and put on his coat, "We're going to Siberia."
"Why go there?" Samantha was stunned, "That place is a party site for the G-Virus right now!"
"Nonsense." Chen Feng walked to the corner and kicked Mia's calf, "Didn't you say you needed hundreds of G-Creatures as rations? Someone has raised them for us. It's an all-you-can-eat buffet, are you going or not?"
Mia snapped her head up, the alloy armor, now covered in scratch marks from her gnawing, slipping from her hands. Her ghostly green eyes lit up instantly.
"Meat?"
"All you can eat."
"Yay!"
...
Meanwhile, on the third underground level of Siberia Base No. 7.
The sound of alarms mixed with the smell of blood.
Director Yuri was being supported by two special forces soldiers, rushing toward the last shelter in a disheveled state. His military uniform was torn, and his face was covered in blood.
"Blow it up! Hurry up and blow up the passage!" He roared.
Boom!
The C4 explosives detonated, the passage collapsed, temporarily cutting off the roars of the monsters behind them.
Yuri collapsed to the ground, gasping for air.
He thought he could control the G-Virus and create an invincible army. To that end, he had turned three thousand death-row inmates in the base into monsters.
Everything spiraled out of control because of a test this morning.
Two G1 mutants were injured during a confrontation; instead of self-healing, they evolved on the spot, their size ballooning. They broke free from their neural suppression collars, and that was how the slaughter began.
Once one lost control, all three thousand monsters in the base went berserk.
"Director, communication is completely cut off!" The adjutant tapped on the malfunctioning satellite phone, his hands covered in sweat.
"Useless trash!" Yuri kicked him in the stomach.
Just as he was preparing to enter the final elevator.
Boom!
The alloy ventilation duct above their heads was ripped open, and a dark shadow crashed into their midst.
In the dust and smoke, a monster over five meters tall stood up, covered in tumors, the giant eyeball on its right shoulder glowing red.
G2 form!
"Fire! Kill it!" Yuri screamed.
Bullets hit the monster to no avail. The monster raised its bone claw and swiped down.
Bang!
Three special forces soldiers, along with their guns, were smashed into a pulp.
The monster turned its head, its giant eyeball locking onto Yuri, who was slumped on the ground.
Yuri closed his eyes.
But the excruciating pain he expected didn't come.
A scalp-tingling sound of chewing and bone-crushing came from the depths of the corridor.
The G2 monster acted as if it had seen a ghost; its massive body actually took a half-step back, and a low growl rumbled in its throat.
It was afraid.
Tap, tap, tap.
Footsteps approached from afar.
Yuri opened his eyes and saw a young girl in a black dress walking out of the darkness.
She was dragging the remains of a half-eaten G1 mutant in her hand. She walked up to the G2 monster, tossed the remains on the ground, and wiped her hands on her dress.
"This one doesn't taste good; it's too tough."
Mia looked up, the shadow of the G2 monster reflected in her ghostly green eyes, and she licked her lips.
"You look like you have plenty of meat on you."
"Roar!"
The G2 monster was enraged and roared as it swung its bone claw down with force enough to smash through the top armor of a tank.
A muffled thud.
Yuri's eyes widened in shock.
The girl extended only one hand and steadily caught the descending giant claw.
The alloy floor beneath her feet cracked, but she didn't budge.
"Quite strong." Mia tilted her head.
The next second, her right arm transformed into countless black-red tentacles, wrapping around the monster's giant arm and piercing into its flesh.
"Awoo—!"
The G2 monster let out a shrill scream, struggling frantically.
The five-meter-tall behemoth's body rapidly withered. Its flesh and blood were drained by those tentacles and poured into the girl's body.
In less than ten seconds.
The G2 monster was left as nothing more than a giant sack of skin, collapsing limply to the ground.
Mia let out a burp, rubbed her flat belly, and turned to look at Yuri.
Yuri was trembling all over, his crotch wet and warm.
"You... what kind of monster are you..."
"Me?" Mia blinked and pointed behind her, "I'm here for the buffet. Boss said there's all you can eat here."
Yuri looked where she pointed.
At the end of the corridor, Chen Feng, accompanied by Hunk and Samantha, was walking over leisurely.
He was wearing a black trench coat, looking nothing like someone in a dangerous situation.
"Boss Chen! Save me! Please save me!" Yuri scrambled over, crawling and stumbling.
Hunk stretched out his leg and blocked him.
"Three thousand?" Chen Feng heard Yuri's cries, and his eyes lit up. He looked at Mia, "Did you hear that? Three thousand. Eat your fill today."
Mia cheered, using all four limbs to scramble up to the ceiling and disappear into the dark depths of the base.
Immediately after, screams of terror from the monsters echoed from the depths of the base.
Chen Feng pulled over an overturned chair and sat down; Hunk stepped forward to light his cigar.
He blew out a smoke ring, the smoke obscuring his face.
"Director Yuri, let's have a talk." Chen Feng's voice was very soft, "You misappropriated Umbrella's intellectual property and created such a huge mess. Have you thought about how you're going to settle this account?"
Listening to the chewing sounds in the distance and looking at the man before him, Yuri was trembling all over.
"Money! I still have two hundred tons of gold! It's all yours!"
Chen Feng shook his head.
"Too little." He flicked the ash from his cigar, "I want your entire intelligence agency's overseas network, and everything beneath this frozen tundra of Siberia."
"Sign it, and I'll take you out."
Chen Feng stood up, walked to Yuri, and tossed a pre-drafted electronic agreement onto his face.
"If you don't sign, you can stay here and be dessert for my Mia."
