306: Chapter 308 Plowing Mode, Silent Harvest

The Thorn Rainforest had always been a forbidden zone in the eyes of the locals.

It was humid, sweltering, and teeming with poisonous insects, not to mention the "Crimson Blood Zombie" mutants that Warlord Bamuka kept as "watchdogs" roaming the forest.

At this moment, a squad composed of twenty elite mercenaries was moving cautiously through the forest.

They were Warlord Bamuka's final guard, responsible for outer perimeter security.

Their captain, a burly, bearded man named Drake, raised his hand to signal the team to stop.

"Damn it, this godforsaken place is abnormally quiet." Drake spat on the ground and scanned his surroundings vigilantly.

Usually at this time, one could always hear the meaningless roars of those monsters in the forest, but today, apart from the buzzing of insects, nothing could be heard.

"Captain, could it be that those monsters were scared off by the big guys from Umbrella?" a young team member asked in a low voice.

"Bullshit!" Drake cursed. "Those brainless things only know how to eat; they don't know the first thing about fear!"

He kept feeling like something was watching them from the shadows, a sensation like a cold viper coiled around his neck, making his skin crawl.

"Stay alert, all of you! Cross-cover, keep moving!" Drake ordered in a low voice.

The team began to move again.

Just as they passed a massive ancient tree that would take five or six people to hug, an incident occurred abruptly!

A dark green afterimage flashed without warning from the canopy behind the team!

"Squelch!"

The two team members walking at the rear of the squad didn't even have time to grunt before their upper bodies were completely separated from their lower bodies, with blood and entrails spraying all over the ground.

"Enemy attack!"

Drake reacted instantly, raising his gun and firing wildly in the direction where the afterimage had vanished.

"Rat-tat-tat-tat!"

Bullets tore through leaves and vines, but hit absolutely nothing.

"Take cover! Get to cover!" Drake roared at the top of his lungs.

The remaining team members scrambled in chaos, looking for cover.

However, for the Hunter-β, these so-called covers were like paper.

A Hunter-β emerged silently from the humus on the ground; its dark green scales blended perfectly with the surrounding moss and mud.

A mercenary hiding behind a large tree didn't notice it at all, still firing wildly in the other direction in panic.

The next second, a sickle-shaped bone blade swept past him like lightning from behind.

The mercenary's body stiffened. He looked down and saw a sharp bone blade protruding from his chest, with a still-beating heart hanging from it.

"Ugh..."

He opened his mouth, his life rapidly fading as the bone blade was retracted, and he collapsed to the ground.

"They're underground! They're underground!"

Someone finally discovered the monsters emerging from the soil and screamed in terror.

But it was already too late.

More dark green figures emerged from all directions—some pounced from the trees, some crawled from the ground, and others used their camouflage to blend into the environment, launching surprise attacks right under their noses.

This was a complete and utter massacre.

These battle-hardened mercenaries were completely helpless before the Hunter-β.

Their thermal weapons couldn't lock onto these high-speed monsters that knew how to utilize the environment, and their proud combat skills were a joke in the face of the monsters' bone blades that could easily tear through steel plates.

In less than thirty seconds, this twenty-man elite squad had been reduced to a pile of severed limbs and remains.

Inside the command vehicle, Chen Feng watched the one-sided massacre broadcast on the screen calmly, his expression unmoved.

" 'Zero', record the data."

"Yes, sir. Hunter-β type, initial combat data being recorded. Average kill efficiency: 1.5 seconds per person. Squad coordination mode assessment: Excellent. Evasion success rate against modern individual thermal weapons: 100%. Assessment conclusion: Possesses an overwhelming advantage against conventional human armed units below platoon scale."

"Hmm." Chen Feng nodded, fairly satisfied with the results.

"Brother, this green bug looks delicious, much crunchier than that red meat mountain from before!" Mia pointed at the Hunter on the screen, which was using its mouthparts to gnaw on the corpses to replenish its biomass, her face full of longing.

"This is a tool for 'plowing', not a snack." Chen Feng corrected her. "Once the ground is plowed clean, the 'main course' inside will be yours."

"Oh..." Mia nodded, seemingly understanding, but her eyes remained fixed on the screen, clearly curious about the taste of these "tools" as well.

Sarah stood to the side, her scalp tingling as she listened.

She couldn't tell which was more terrifying: the monsters on the screen or the siblings beside her discussing whether or not to "eat" them.

The "plowing" continued.

Fifty Hunter-βs formed an invisible noose, steadily contracting inward from the outer edge of the rainforest.

All the mercenary strongholds, hidden sentries, and patrol teams that Warlord Bamuka had used as an outer defensive line were silently eradicated one by one along the way.

These Hunter-βs displayed astonishing tactical proficiency.

They utilized the terrain, coordinating in groups of three or five to flank the enemy; they used one companion as bait to draw fire, then launched a fatal strike from behind; they even knew to destroy the enemy's communication equipment, cutting off their contact with the outside world.

This was no longer just a biological weapon; this was a devilish army that knew how to think and coordinate!

In the core area of the Thorn Rainforest, inside a massive underground fortress disguised as a mountain.

Warlord Bamuka's adjutant, a one-eyed man named Adjutant Hassan, was pacing back and forth anxiously.

"Damn it! Why is there still no news from Drake's team? It's been fifteen minutes past the scheduled contact time!" Adjutant Hassan roared at the communications soldier.

"Report, sir! It's not just Captain Drake; all seven outer squads have lost contact! The communication channels are dead silent!" The communications soldier turned pale with fright.

"What?"

Adjutant Hassan's heart skipped a beat, and an ominous premonition surged in his mind.

Seven squads, one hundred and forty elite Soldiers, just vanished into thin air?

He rushed to the surveillance monitor and pulled up all the hidden cameras deployed around the outer perimeter of the rainforest.

On the screen, there was only the quiet rainforest; the wind blew through the leaves, rustling, but not a single person could be seen, nor was there any trace of a fight.

Everything was terrifyingly normal.

"Impossible... absolutely impossible..." Adjutant Hassan muttered, cold sweat seeping from his forehead.

He would rather have seen the monitors filled with blood than this deathly silence.

Just then, a Soldier responsible for radar monitoring suddenly let out a scream.

"Sir! Look! The life detection radar!"

Adjutant Hassan turned his head sharply. On the radar screen, in the area representing the outer perimeter of the rainforest, the dense blue dots that had represented his own Soldiers were all gone!

In their place were fifty red dots moving at a constant speed toward the center!

They formed a perfect circle, like a giant comb, scraping across every inch of the rainforest; wherever they passed, no blue dots remained.

"What... what the hell is this?" Adjutant Hassan panicked completely.

He didn't understand what this was, but he understood what this image signified.

His outer defensive line was gone.

It had been "combed" clean in a way he couldn't possibly comprehend.

"Sound the highest alert! Everyone to combat stations! Now!" Adjutant Hassan roared hysterically. "Close that damn alloy gate! Hurry!"

The entire underground fortress was instantly submerged in piercing alarm sirens and chaotic footsteps.

And those fifty red dots continued to advance steadily, unhurriedly, toward the fortress.

For them, this "plowing" had only just begun in earnest.
