98: Chapter 98 Clearing Time

Chen Feng's voice came clearly through the earpiece into Sarah's ear.

"Sarah, prepare to receive 'Elpis'."

"Understood." Sarah didn't ask what it was; she simply responded and began to move.

Like a nimble cat, she climbed a broken wall that had been sheared in half by artillery fire in a few leaps. This was the highest point of the entire manor's ruins.

...

Umbrella, Underground Command Center.

Marcus looked at the giant red dot on the screen moving toward the civilian area, his brow furrowed. "Boss, do we need to activate Plan B? Should we deploy Nemesis and the Tyrant Squad for a forced interception?"

"It's too late." Chen Feng shook his head, tapped another satellite image on the screen, and said, "They can't keep up, and they can't win."

There wasn't a trace of tension in Chen Feng's eyes.

"I prepared a termination plan from the start. After all, those who play with fire must always have a bucket of water ready." He turned to Marcus and issued new orders. "Direct the C-17 transport circling outside Colombian airspace to enter the designated area and drop the 'Scavenger'. Coordinates: three kilometers ahead of the target's path. Sarah will be there to receive it."

"Yes, sir." Marcus immediately executed the order.

Chen Feng watched Sarah's agile figure on the screen.

The power of the G-Virus was unquestionable, but its flaws were equally obvious—infinite, uncontrollable evolution.

The first thing a qualified biological weapon must learn is 'obedience'. A monster like a G-Creature, which only follows its instincts to devour and destroy, is clearly unqualified.

...

Above the Colombian rainforest, the clouds were silently torn open by a massive transport plane.

A sci-fi-looking drop pod with a matte black coating was pushed from the belly of the plane, falling toward the ground like a black meteor with pinpoint accuracy.

When the drop pod was three hundred meters from the ground, buffer air currents erupted from its tail. It eventually landed silently in a clearing. The hatch made a slight mechanical clicking sound as it unlocked and automatically popped open.

Sarah's figure flickered out from the nearby tree shadows like a ghost.

Inside the pod, there was no complex equipment, only a ferociously styled sniper rifle and a small box secured in a slot.

The rifle was entirely black, with a barrel longer than a standard anti-materiel sniper rifle, exuding a sense of power and high-tech precision. Sarah recognized it at a glance as a product of Umbrella's military department, deeply modified based on the Barrett M82A1.

She picked up the sniper rifle; it felt much lighter than it looked, clearly made from some new type of alloy.

Next, she opened the small box.

The box was lined with soft black velvet, upon which lay three strangely shaped bullets.

The tips of these three bullets were not metal, but a translucent crystalline structure that seemed to contain a golden liquid. In the faint morning light, they emitted a mysterious glow.

Sarah's gaze lingered on a note attached to the box.

[Special Ammunition: Elpis]

[Effect: Contains high-concentration T-Virus inhibitor. Can instantly collapse and neutralize the viral structure of the T-Virus and all its known derivatives (G-Virus, C-Virus, Ouroboros Virus, etc.).]

I see.

Sarah understood. From the very beginning, the Boss never intended for this monster to survive the day.

She took out one 'Elpis' bullet and slid it into the cold chamber.

*Click.*

Shouldering the sniper rifle, Sarah made a few leaps and disappeared into the depths of the jungle.

Five minutes later, she appeared on a cliff three kilometers away. The view here was wide, and she could clearly see the massive monster rampaging through the rainforest below, crushing trees as it advanced toward a village with rising cooking smoke in the distance.

Distance: 2,300 meters.

Wind speed: 3.2 knots, Northwesterly.

Humidity: 85%.

Sarah didn't use any observation equipment; her eyes, enhanced by the Ouroboros Virus, were the most precise scope. In her eyes, every detail of the monster over two thousand meters away was clearly visible.

She could even see the proliferating flesh on its body and the disgusting saliva dripping from its mouthparts.

She calmly set up the sniper rifle, pressed the stock against her shoulder, and locked onto a relatively weak joint connection on G-III's massive body through the scope.

No hesitation, no doubt.

As G-III raised an appendage to smash a boulder blocking its path, Sarah pulled the trigger.

There was no deafening gunshot.

The muzzle only emitted a muffled 'pfft', as if it were just exhaling a breath of stale air.

The 'Elpis' bullet, carrying its mission of termination, burst with a ring of blue flame from its tail the moment it left the barrel. Traveling far faster than a conventional bullet, it tore through the humid air, tracing a straight line that was almost impossible to catch with the naked eye.

The next second.

The bullet accurately struck G-III's joint.

The expected explosion did not occur.

The moment the crystalline bullet head made contact with G-III's body, it shattered. The liquid inside, as if possessed of its own life, instantly seeped into the monster's body.

"Roar...?"

G-III's movements suddenly stiffened. It seemed to sense something and let out a confused low growl.

Then, a terrifying scene unfolded.

Starting from the point where the bullet hit, G-III's indestructible exoskeleton shell rapidly turned gray and cracked, like rock weathered for thousands of years.

Wisps of green smoke rose from the cracks, carrying an indescribable stench.

"ROAR—!"

The delayed agony and fear caused the monster to let out an extremely shrill scream.

It twisted its massive body frantically, trying to shake off the bone-deep pain, but it was all in vain.

The disintegration was accelerating!

The gray color spread like a plague; the hard shell turned to powder, and muscle tissue dissolved into pools of bubbling green pus that dripped onto the ground, corroding large pits into the earth.

Its massive body was like a punctured balloon, or a sandcastle washed away by waves, rapidly collapsing and crumbling.

In less than thirty seconds, the terrifying monster that had once overturned tanks with its bare hands and driven the entire drug cartel to despair completely disappeared.

In its place, only a large patch of foul-smelling organic sludge remained, still 'hissing' with white smoke as it continued to corrode the earth.

On the cliff, Sarah watched all this calmly and reported softly into her earpiece.

"Target eliminated."

"Good job," Chen Feng's voice came through. "Evacuate as planned. The transport plane will wait for you at the extraction point."

"Yes, sir."

Sarah disassembled and stowed the sniper rifle, glanced at the village in the distance that had been spared, and turned to disappear into the forest.

...

A few hours later, the day had fully brightened.

*Vroom vroom vroom—*

Several helicopters bearing official Colombian markings, their rotors kicking up massive air currents, slowly landed on the ruins of the manor.

A group of fully armed special forces soldiers rushed down and quickly established a perimeter.

The commanding officer leading the team felt a chill in his heart as he looked at the hellish scene before him.

The entire manor had been turned into a wasteland, filled with craters, signs of explosions, and mutilated corpses. The air was thick with the smell of blood and gunpowder.

"Report, sir! Escobar's body has not been found within the manor..." a soldier reported.

"What about the other leaders?"

"All dead, not one left! The entire high-level leadership of the Viper Group in Colombia has been wiped out in one go!"

The commander was stunned.

The drug lord who had been a headache for them for over a decade was just... gone?

Which deity's work was this?

At that moment, another team responsible for the outer perimeter survey sent in a report.

"Sir! We've discovered a massive corroded area in the rainforest three kilometers to the northeast! All vegetation is dead, the soil is severely contaminated, and unknown biological remains have been detected... The scene... the scene is too disgusting to describe in words!"

Listening to the report on the walkie-talkie, the commander felt a shiver down his spine.

Looking at the messy manor, he knew very well that Escobar's death would not end Colombia's drug problem.

The fall of one giant would only lead to countless small-time dealers fighting for the territory and business he left behind, triggering a new and even more insane wave of bloodshed.

But in any case, eradicating Escobar, the biggest tumor, was a good thing.

"Withdraw!" The commander waved his hand. "Report the situation here; say it was... internal infighting within the cartel that triggered an armory explosion, and everyone perished together."

As for that eerie corroded land, it was better to pretend they hadn't seen it.

Some things, if delved into too deeply, would benefit no one.

All they knew was that from today on, the sky over Colombia was going to change.
