125: Mushroom hot pot

[Edible Shiitake Mushrooms found under the tree ahead]

The prompt sounded again.

Lu Fan was as if he’d been injected with a stimulant, suddenly rushing toward a piece of deadwood.

Upon the deadwood, several clusters of Shiitake Mushrooms grew in a scattered fashion; they were like tiny brown umbrellas with slightly inward-curling edges, their thick caps emitting a rustic luster.

"An Lan, there are Shiitake Mushrooms here!" Lu Fan shouted excitedly.

An Lan came over at the sound, a surprised smile blooming on her face.

The two of them carefully plucked the Shiitake Mushrooms from the deadwood, every movement filled with appreciation for nature's gift.

"These Shiitake Mushrooms will definitely taste amazing when used for stewing soup," An Lan said while harvesting, looking forward to the upcoming feast.

Before they could recover from the joy of the Shiitake Mushrooms, the prompt [Edible Oyster Mushrooms found] sounded in Lu Fan's mind again.

Not far away, a large patch of Oyster Mushrooms, like blooming lotuses, were attached layer upon layer to another fallen tree trunk.

Lu Fan and An Lan walked forward quickly; these Oyster Mushrooms were as white as snow, with fine and neat gills, emitting a faint fragrance.

"These Oyster Mushrooms are growing so vigorously; today's harvest is simply too rich!" Lu Fan exclaimed as he nimbly put the Oyster Mushrooms into the bamboo basket.

As time passed, more and more mushrooms filled the bamboo basket, and the variety became increasingly diverse.

There were small and exquisite Enoki Mushrooms, huddled closely together; their slender stalks and rounded caps looked like a group of inseparable partners.

There were also cute-looking Straw Mushrooms hiding in the grass; their white bodies were like rounded pearls, waiting to be discovered by someone destined to find them.

"Wow, so many mushrooms."

"Are there any friends from Yunnan, Guizhou, or Sichuan who can introduce which mushrooms are poisonous?"

"Buddy upstairs, there's no such thing as poisonous mushrooms, it's just that they weren't cooked through."

"When I was young, I had a plate of cold-dressed Jianshouqing every day."

"Now there are also artificially cultivated mushrooms, but they're just too expensive to afford."

"That's true; in our parts, for Termite Mushrooms, one catty is a full five hundred grams."

Looking at the basket full of mushrooms, Lu Fan was overjoyed.

"That's about enough; we should head back."

An Lan looked at the sky and said, "If we don't go back now, we'll miss lunch."

Lu Fan nodded, stood up, and brushed the dust off himself: "Alright, we've gained quite a lot today. We can make a sumptuous mushroom feast when we get back."

Carrying their bountiful harvest, the two walked back along the path they came.

Just as they were immersed in the joy of the harvest, Lu Fan suddenly caught a glimpse of a bamboo forest nearby.

A flash of inspiration hit him, and he said to An Lan, "There might be fresh and tender Bamboo Shoots in this bamboo forest. Let's go try our luck!"

An Lan's eyes lit up, and she readily agreed.

They stepped into the bamboo forest; a breeze blew past, and the bamboo leaves rustled as if welcoming them.

[Fresh Bamboo Shoots found underground]

Lu Fan observed the ground carefully and suddenly noticed a slight bulge in the earth, with a few hints of fresh yellow peeking through.

"Found them!"

He shouted excitedly, then carefully squatted down and used the shovel he carried to gently dig away the surrounding soil.

After a moment, a fresh Bamboo Shoot broke through the soil; its outer skin had a layer of fine fuzz, and the tender yellow flesh looked exceptionally tempting under the sunlight.

An Lan was also working hard to search nearby, and after a while, she also discovered a Bamboo Shoot with surprise.

"Come look, this Bamboo Shoot is really thick and strong!"

She happily called out to Lu Fan. The two of them busied themselves in the bamboo forest like this, and in a short while, they dug up several Bamboo Shoots.

Some of these Bamboo Shoots were straight and slender, while others were slightly curved; every single one was full of nature's vitality and energy.

"Today's harvest is simply too bountiful; these mushrooms and Bamboo Shoots are enough for several meals."

Lu Fan looked at the bamboo basket full of ingredients, his face overflowing with a satisfied smile.

An Lan also nodded with a smile: "Yes, and these are all pure natural green ingredients, nutritious and delicious."

Carrying their full harvest, the two walked back with light steps.

Along the way, sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves and showered them, forming patches of golden light.

The other small animals had long been waiting expectantly at the Shelter entrance.

Seeing them return, the animals immediately ran over happily, circling around them incessantly as if sharing in their joy.

"We found a lot of good food today; I'll give you some later," Lu Fan said with a smile, patting Da Hei's head.

Da Hei seemed to understand his words, wagging his tail happily and letting out "wuwu" sounds.

After Lu Fan and An Lan returned to the Shelter, they began to get busy.

Lu Fan was responsible for washing the mushrooms, while An Lan prepared the other ingredients; they planned to make a Mushroom Hotpot.

Before long, the water in the pot boiled, and Lu Fan tossed the cleaned mushrooms and various ingredients into the pot all at once.

Immediately, an enticing aroma wafted from the pot, making one's mouth water.

"Wow, it smells so good!" Lu Fan took a deep breath and praised, "This Mushroom Hotpot will definitely be delicious."

An Lan said with a smile, "Quickly, have a taste and see if my cooking skills have improved."

The two sat by the fire, eating the delicious Mushroom Hotpot while sharing the interesting experiences they had in the woods today.

Da Hei and the other small animals also gathered around them, eating with great relish.

The entire Shelter was filled with laughter and joy, overflowing with a warm and happy atmosphere.

After finishing the meal, Lu Fan let out a satisfied burp and patted his rounded belly; seeing quite a few mushrooms left in the pot, he pondered the next steps.

"Let's save some of these mushrooms for dinner; the rest shouldn't be wasted. Such good ingredients can be preserved for a long time if dried."

As he spoke, he picked up the sharp dagger and carefully sliced the mushrooms into even thin slices, his movements as skilled as a professional chef handling precious ingredients.

Humming a little tune, Lu Fan carried the sliced mushrooms outside the Shelter, found a flat and sunny large rock, and neatly spread the mushrooms on it one by one to dry.

The sunlight fell on the mushrooms, giving off a faint golden glow, as if draping them in a mysterious cloak.

"Hey, you guys enjoy your sunbath; once you're dried, that'll be another delicacy."

Lu Fan talked to himself, addressing the mushrooms.
