141: Searching for coal
An Lan asked curiously.
Lu Fan smiled and nodded: "After all, the strength of the two of us is limited. It's hard to find these resources on our own, but these monkeys live in the forest all year round. They might discover something."
In the livestream room, the audience's barrage comments surged like a tide, all marveling at Lu Fan's bold and novel idea.
"This is quite a brain-hole, letting monkeys help find Coal mines. This is the first time I've seen such a move!"
"If they really find a Coal mine, they'll be rich. Starting fires for warmth and cooking will be much more convenient!"
"Is this the legendary Monkey Scout?"
The audience's discussion was in full swing, and some expressed that it was too difficult to have monkeys look for resources.
Seeing An Lan's face full of disbelief, Lu Fan smiled: "Anyway, there's no harm in trying. What if it works?"
After the Monkey King accepted Lu Fan's conditions, he left in a hurry with two Little Monkeys.
Lu Fan watched their departing backs, the corners of his mouth curling up slightly as he said with anticipation: "An Lan, maybe before long, we'll be able to use Coal. It'll be so much more convenient then!"
An Lan replied with a smile: "I hope so, but can these monkeys really find a Coal mine? I'm still a bit skeptical."
During the time they spent waiting for the Monkey King's return, Lu Fan and An Lan didn't stay idle.
They continued to dry the Nuts, classifying them by type and size to ensure every nut was dried evenly.
At the same time, they did some minor repairs to the Shelter, reinforcing the roof to prevent sudden rain at night.
Time flew by, and in the blink of an eye, the sun slanted westward, emitting an orange-red glow that made people feel lazy.
The small animals in the forest began to become active, and the various sounds of insects intertwined as if playing a nocturne.
Just as Lu Fan and An Lan were preparing to eat dinner, they suddenly heard a familiar "squeak".
"The Monkey King is back!"
Lu Fan stood up excitedly and looked toward the source of the sound.
He saw the Monkey King with his two little companions, laboriously dragging a pile of black stones toward the Shelter.
Their fur was a bit messy, looking as though they had undergone a difficult journey.
"Good heavens, these monkeys actually found something!" An Lan also widened her eyes in surprise.
Lu Fan hurried forward, thinking he would see the Coal he dreamed of, but upon closer inspection, although these stones were also black, they were clearly not Coal.
These stones had smooth surfaces and a hard texture, completely different from the characteristics of Coal.
[obsidian Discovered]
Lu Fan held a piece of obsidian and weighed it: "They even found obsidian, but it's not very useful; I can't go to Hell anyway."
The Monkey King also understood Lu Fan's meaning.
He placed the stones in front of Lu Fan and then looked at him expectantly.
His tail wasn't held high like usual but hung down, his face full of dejection, seemingly feeling guilty for not completing the task.
"It's okay, it's okay, you've worked very hard." Lu Fan patted the Monkey King's head, comforting him.
He knew that the Monkey King must have put in a lot of effort to find these stones, probably running to many places.
Although a bit disappointed, Lu Fan still kept his promise, taking out the roasted meat he had prepared long ago and handing it to the Monkey King.
The Monkey King took the roasted meat and began to eat, but this time he didn't eat as happily as before.
He would look at those black stones from time to time, as if reflecting on where he had gone wrong.
"Don't lose heart, let's think of another way," Lu Fan said while gesturing to the Monkey King.
"I'm telling you, Coal is softer, breaks easily, and the color is even deeper."
Lu Fan explained patiently. Even though he knew the Monkey King might not understand his words, he still hoped that through these actions and expressions, the Monkey King would understand the characteristics of Coal.
An Lan also helped by offering an idea: "How about we draw what Coal looks like for him? Maybe that way he'll be clearer about it."
Lu Fan's eyes lit up: "That's a good idea!"
So, he found a branch and drew a simple shape of Coal on the ground, specifically marking some features like the surface texture and color.
The Monkey King leaned forward, carefully looking at the drawing on the ground, and even reached out a paw to touch it.
He tilted his head, thinking for a while, and then looked at the real charcoal again, seemingly trying to memorize this information.
When the audience in the livestream room saw this scene, they were all amused.
"This Monkey King is too cute, looking so serious as if he's really studying!"
"Lu Fan's method of teaching the monkey is also amazing. I wonder if this Monkey King can find real Coal next time."
The audience's barrage comments kept scrolling; everyone was full of curiosity and anticipation regarding this matter.
After eating the roasted meat, the Monkey King did not leave immediately.
He circled the Shelter a few times, seemingly looking for some inspiration.
Suddenly, his eyes lit up, and he ran to a large tree nearby, starting to rummage at the base of the roots.
After a while, he dug out some black stuff and excitedly showed it to Lu Fan.
Lu Fan saw that it was some black soil wrapped in rotten leaves. Although it wasn't Coal, he was very moved by the Monkey King's enthusiasm and effort.
"You've really worked hard, but this still isn't what we're looking for."
Lu Fan said with a smile to the Monkey King, and then demonstrated the burning process of charcoal again.
He wanted him to understand that Coal, like charcoal, can be used to start a fire.
The Monkey King looked at the burning charcoal, his eyes flashing with a curious light.
He seemed to have developed a stronger interest in this black stone that could burn, and he made up his mind to find it.
He continued to explore the surroundings, bringing the things he found to Lu Fan over and over again.
Sometimes it was black stones, sometimes black soil. Although none were Coal, Lu Fan patiently explained the characteristics of Coal to him.
As time passed, the Monkey King became more and more familiar with the characteristics of Coal.
Late at night, the Monkey King left with the two Little Monkeys. He looked back at Lu Fan and raised his hand to wave.
And Lu Fan and An Lan also raised their hands in response.
Watching their departing backs, the two were full of anticipation.
"I hope the Monkey King can bring real Coal next time," An Lan said.
Lu Fan nodded: "Whether we find it or not, this experience with the Monkey King has been so interesting. These days of Wilderness Survival are truly full of surprises and accidents."
