227: Chapter 226 Exploring the Island
The night was deep and heavy; on the quiet small island, only the sea breeze whistled tirelessly.
That bone-chilling cold was like countless fine needles, threading their way into the crevices of one's bones.
Lu Fan and An Lan snuggled against each other, trying to gain a sliver of warmth from one another's body heat.
Lu Fan's heartbeat, however, sounded like a rapid war drum, thumping incessantly in his chest; his body also unconsciously stiffened slightly, as if he had been hit by a Body-Fixing Spell.
An Lan keenly sensed his abnormality. The corners of her mouth curled up slightly, revealing a playful smile as she teased softly, "Don't get any wild ideas. We're doing this purely for warmth, so don't let your head get filled with strange thoughts."
Lu Fan gave an embarrassed laugh, his smile carrying a hint of awkwardness, like someone whose little secret had been exposed.
He suddenly slapped his forehead and said with feigned annoyance, "If I had known, I would have brought my ai kun down jacket. Then I wouldn't be shivering here. Sure enough, in this wilderness, only my Brother Kun can give me warmth."
An Lan rolled her eyes at him and replied crossly, "Give it a rest. With that ai kun down jacket of yours, in this wilderness, who knows how badly it would get shredded by branches. By then it wouldn't be a down jacket anymore, it would be 'beggar's clothes'."
In this lighthearted atmosphere of half-joking and half-playful banter, the tension between the two quietly dissipated. Drowsiness gradually welled up in their hearts, and before they knew it, they had entered a sweet dreamland.
The next day, as the horizon just began to turn fish-belly white and soft light crept over the island, Lu Fan and An Lan woke up early.
The morning air was filled with a damp, cold breath, and the temperature remained low enough to make one shiver.
Looking out, the sea seemed to be gently shrouded by a layer of light gauze, with hazy mist lingering within. Such weather conditions were clearly unsuitable for going into the sea.
"Looking at the situation, we won't be able to leave for a while. We have to wait for the temperature to rise a bit, otherwise, this cold will make going into the sea a real ordeal," Lu Fan said with a frown and a look of helplessness.
After hearing this, An Lan nodded in agreement, her hair swaying gently with the movement.
Since they couldn't leave for the time being, the two decided to explore the island, hoping for some unexpected gains.
They talked and laughed along the way, their warm words echoing in the sea breeze as they began this adventure filled with the unknown.
Unknowingly, they reached the center of the island.
The terrain here gradually rose, and the slope became more and more obvious.
Just as they were about to take a closer look around, a huge fissure abruptly appeared before them.
It looked like a hideous scar, its jagged edges speaking of the violent upheavals the earth had once endured.
Looking closely, this fissure seemed to have been forced open from underground by a powerful force.
The ground had split to both sides, leaving a mysterious space in the middle that extended diagonally downward.
The two were instantly attracted and approached to observe with curiosity.
"It should have been caused by the crustal movement triggered by that previous earthquake," An Lan analyzed, her gaze focused on the fissure.
Lu Fan just smiled lightly upon hearing this and said indifferently, "Whatever. Let's just walk around it and be careful not to fall in. Let's go look elsewhere."
Saying so, he pulled An Lan, preparing to leave.
But at that moment, the heavenly dao prompt sound suddenly rang in Lu Fan's mind.
[Aircraft wreckage discovered beneath the fissure]
In an instant, Lu Fan's curiosity was ignited, flaring up like a lit firecracker.
Aircraft wreckage—that was a symbol of civilization. Perhaps it even hid unknown secrets and treasures. No matter what, he had to go down and investigate.
His eyes darted around as he feigned composure and changed his tune, "But then again, what if there's some treasure down there? I think I'll go down and take a look after all."
Seeing Lu Fan's eyes suddenly light up with excitement like he'd found treasure, An Lan sighed helplessly, "You, your curiosity is greater than a cat's. What if there's danger down there?"
"Don't worry, you can see the bottom of this fissure at a glance. What danger could there be? I'll just go down for a quick peek."
As Lu Fan spoke, he stared at the fissure, rubbing his hands together in anticipation, itching to jump down immediately.
Seeing him like this, An Lan knew that if she didn't go along with him today, he certainly wouldn't give up.
Helplessly, she also gave up on trying to dissuade him and said, "Fine, fine, but I'm going down with you."
Lu Fan was about to refuse, but An Lan raised her hand to stop him, "If you don't agree, then you aren't allowed to go down either."
Seeing An Lan's determined look, Lu Fan knew he couldn't win her over and could only reluctantly agree, "Then... alright. Remember to stay close to me and be sure to stay safe."
Thus, Lu Fan, holding his Axe, cautiously led the way while An Lan followed closely behind, climbing down the fissure step by step.
During the climb, Lu Fan would occasionally reach out to steady An Lan, fearing she might accidentally fall and get hurt.
This fissure looked intimidating, but its actual depth was only about two or three stories high. Without much effort, the two successfully reached the bottom.
Once at the bottom, they found the space here was much wider than imagined, like a secret hall carefully hidden by nature.
The surrounding stone walls were damp, with water droplets falling from time to time. The 'drip-drop' sounds echoed in the silent space, as if playing a mysterious piece of music.
The two began to carefully observe their surroundings, while Lu Fan, following the instructions of the heavenly dao prompt sound, quietly began his exploration.
[Aircraft wreckage fuselage found behind the soil layer six meters ahead]
Lu Fan followed the instructions to the rock layer, reached out, and tapped it lightly, but aside from a dull thud, he couldn't hear anything.
He couldn't help but mutter, "Sure enough, TV shows are all lies. Tapping for ages and there's no reaction."
An Lan noticed Lu Fan's actions and walked over curiously, asking, "What's wrong? Did you find something?"
Lu Fan smiled confidently, an excited light flashing in his eyes, "There's something hidden behind here. Just you wait and see, watch me dig it out."
Lu Fan directly turned the Axe around to use it as a hammer and began smashing at the soil layer. His posture was as if he had some deep-seated grudge against the soil.
With every strike, a small cloud of dust was kicked up, accompanied by a dull thud that echoed in the narrow space.
An Lan stood to the side, her face full of worry, and couldn't help but say, "Take it easy! I'm afraid you'll collapse this place, and then the two of us will be buried alive here!"
Lu Fan didn't look back, but his movements didn't stop as he muttered, "Don't worry, don't worry, I know what I'm doing. This rock layer is sturdy. Besides, if I don't use some strength, how can I dig up the treasure?"
As he spoke, he smashed it several more times.
After Lu Fan's unremitting efforts, a large hole was finally smashed into the rock layer.
At that moment, a shiny silver-white hard object appeared before their eyes, looking like a wall.
An Lan's eyes widened in shock, her mouth hanging open so wide it seemed an egg could fit inside.
She looked at Lu Fan in disbelief and said, "You were actually right, there really is something down here!"
Looking at the discovery before him, a proud smile appeared on Lu Fan's face, a smile that seemed to say 'I knew it would be like this'.
He continued to dig, and as the excavation deepened, more and more of the silver part was exposed.
