187: Chapter 186 Moving into a Brick House

After testing the Bow and Arrow, Lu Fan felt a great sense of accomplishment, but he knew in his heart that on this danger-filled deserted island, an extra layer of protection meant an extra bit of hope for survival.

After all, no one knew if they would encounter a fierce beast or some other unexpected danger in the next second.

Therefore, he decided to make a Crossbow for An Lan.

Compared to the Bow and Arrow, a Crossbow was simpler to operate and would allow An Lan to better protect herself when necessary.

He turned to look at An Lan, his expression serious and his eyes full of concern: "An Lan, I plan to make a Crossbow for you. This thing is easy to pick up and more convenient for you to use. If you encounter danger, you'll have more confidence to deal with it."

A hint of curiosity flashed in An Lan's eyes, and she immediately said, "A Crossbow? Do you need my help?"

Lu Fan shook his head gently, his tone firm yet tender: "The process of making a Crossbow is a bit tedious, and the tools are sharp; I'm afraid you'll get hurt.

Just watch from the side and let me know if you have any ideas."

An Lan nodded helplessly. She understood Lu Fan's intentions and could only watch silently from the side, occasionally handing him a tool, her eyes full of trust and support.

Soon, Lu Fan arrived at the Bamboo Forest.

He began to select bamboo with a focused expression.

He gently touched the bamboo stalks one by one, feeling their texture and judging their resilience, while muttering to himself from time to time: "This bamboo is uniform in thickness and has tough fibers; it should be excellent material for making a Crossbow."

As he spoke, he took out an Axe and skillfully began felling it.

With the sound of "thump, thump," the bamboo slowly fell. Lu Fan hoisted the bamboo onto his shoulder and walked back to the Shelter with steady steps, as if he were carrying their future security.

Returning to the Camp, Lu Fan placed the bamboo properly and began the fine processing.

He first used the dagger to cut the bamboo into appropriate lengths.

"This section is for the Crossbow Stock. Both the length and the curvature must be just right to ensure the stability of the Crossbow. If the angle is off even slightly, the fired Bolt might veer off course."

He talked to himself while An Lan listened intently from the side, nodding occasionally, her eyes full of curiosity and admiration.

After the cutting was finished, Lu Fan picked up a stone and began to carefully polish the surface of the bamboo.

Soon, the rough bamboo gradually became smooth in his hands.

"Polishing isn't just for comfort; more importantly, it avoids affecting the shooting accuracy due to a rough bamboo surface during use. If the Bolts are fired all crooked, it'll be a problem."

He explained to An Lan. Seeing his focused look, her heart was filled with warmth. His meticulousness gave her a great sense of security.

Next was making the Trigger Mechanism.

Lu Fan directly carved some parts from the remaining Elm Wood. Although they were rough, they possessed basic functionality.

He laid out the parts one by one, carefully studying their shapes and purposes as if deciphering a mysterious code.

"This part is used for the Trigger, and this one is the fixing device for the Crossbow String. Don't look down on these small parts; they are the core of the Crossbow." As he spoke, he began to assemble them.

His fingers nimbly manipulated the parts, fixing them one by one onto the Crossbow Stock. He repeatedly checked every connection point to ensure they were stable, not overlooking any detail that might cause a problem.

"The precision of the Trigger Mechanism is vital. Even a tiny deviation could affect the performance of the Crossbow. If it fails at a critical moment, it would be dangerous."

His tone was rigorous. An Lan watched quietly from the side, not daring to make a sound for fear of disturbing him, only silently cheering for him in her heart.

Installing the Crossbow String was a key step. Lu Fan took out a piece of twisted Hemp Rope.

He carefully fixed one end of the Hemp Rope to the Crossbow Limb.

After some effort, the Hemp Rope was finally successfully installed on the Crossbow Limb, forming a perfect Crossbow String that shimmered with a tough luster in the sunlight.

With the task completed, Lu Fan picked up the finished Crossbow to calibrate it.

He pulled the Trigger, and the Crossbow String made a crisp sound. The Bolt shot out like lightning, accurately hitting a distant target and kicking up a cloud of dust.

"An Lan, you try it." Lu Fan handed the Crossbow to An Lan. She took it, feeling both nervous and excited, her hands trembling slightly.

Following the method Lu Fan had taught her earlier, she took a deep breath and pulled the Trigger. The Bolt shot out, and although it didn't hit the bullseye, it did hit the target.

"Not bad, hitting it on your first try is already great. With a few more practices, you'll definitely be able to hit the mark every time," Lu Fan encouraged, his eyes full of praise.

After completing the Crossbow, Lu Fan remembered the Brick House he had built earlier.

He said to An Lan, "I'll go see if the Brick House is completely dry. If it is, we can move in. We'll be able to live in a safer and more comfortable place from now on."

An Lan nodded in agreement, her eyes full of anticipation.

Lu Fan arrived at the Brick House and began to inspect it carefully.

He tapped the walls with his finger, judging the dryness by the sound, then checked the roof's waterproofing, climbing up and down to ensure there were no signs of leakage.

"The Brick House is completely dry, and the structure is very stable. We can move in with peace of mind." He returned to the Shelter and said happily to An Lan, a joyful smile on his face.

So, the two of them began the work of moving.

There weren't actually many things—just bedding and some daily necessities like cups and tableware—but the two of them were happily busy.

"We finally have a real home," An Lan remarked emotionally, happy tears glistening in her eyes.

Lu Fan looked at her with tenderness in his eyes: "Yes, no matter what difficulties we face in the future, this home will be our strongest support. As long as we are together, there's no obstacle we can't overcome."

As night fell, a warm light lit up inside the Brick House.

Lu Fan and An Lan sat at the dining table, eating a simple dinner of roasted wild fruits and previously stored dry rations.

Da Hei lay nearby, wagging his tail from time to time and occasionally leaning in, looking at them expectantly, wanting to share some of the food.

"It's been a busy day today. You should get some rest. Tomorrow I'll go explore again to see if I can find more useful things," Lu Fan said, his tone carrying a hint of expectation.

An Lan smiled and shook her head: "I didn't do much, so I'm not tired. I'll go with you tomorrow. We can look out for each other and explore more places."

livestream room.

"They've finally moved into their new home; it wasn't easy."

"Yeah, this feeling is truly wonderful. We've watched them go from having nothing to having everything."

"Everything is developing in a good direction."
