217: Chapter 216 Ripe Chili Peppers

Lu Fan and An Lan returned to the Shelter, humming a tune, carrying a Basket full of ripe chili peppers.

The chili peppers were a translucent red, glowing with an enticing luster in the afterglow, as if showing off their ripeness and spiciness.

As soon as he entered the Shelter, Lu Fan seemed to be injected with adrenaline. He placed the Basket on the table, put his hands on his hips, and announced loudly:

"Tonight, we'll have a deluxe seafood venison noodle soup, paired with the chili peppers we grew ourselves. The taste will definitely be incredible!"

An Lan smiled and nodded, her eyes full of anticipation.

Lu Fan took out the lobsters he had caught earlier.

Although these lobsters were already dead, they had been placed in the Storage Room in time, so the meat was still very fresh.

Lu Fan skillfully cleaned the lobsters, then separated the heads from the bodies.

He first threw the lobster heads into the pot. With a sizzling sound, the lobster oil was slowly rendered, and instantly, the entire Shelter was filled with the rich aroma of lobster.

"Wow, this aroma is so captivating!" An Lan took a deep breath and said, intoxicated.

"Of course, this is the soul of seafood soup," Lu Fan smiled proudly and continued to simmer the soup.

He stirred while adding water to the pot. Before long, the soup in the pot turned an enticing orange-red, fragrant and delicious.

While the soup was simmering, An Lan helped prepare the venison.

An Lan took the venison out of the storage box. Its texture was clear, and its color was reddish, indicating tender meat at a glance.

"This venison is really good stuff. Paired with this seafood soup tonight, it's definitely going to be incredibly delicious," An Lan said, handing the venison to Lu Fan.

Lu Fan took the venison, pulled out a sharp knife, and prepared to show off his skills.

His gaze was focused and firm, and the knife in his hand danced quickly over the venison. Before long, the venison was sliced into pieces as thin as cicada wings.

Each slice was cut evenly, making one marvel at his knife skills.

"Wow, your knife skills are really good. How did you practice?" An Lan couldn't help but praise.

"When I was little, I always did the cooking in my family. I just practiced it over time," Lu Fan said with a smile, his face beaming with pride.

Next, it was time to cook the noodles.

Lu Fan poured the simmered seafood soup into another pot. Once the soup boiled again, he carefully placed the noodles into the pot.

As soon as the noodles touched the boiling broth, they immediately softened, tumbling in the pot as if dancing happily.

"These noodles look springy; they must be delicious," Lu Fan looked at the noodles in the pot and nodded with satisfaction.

After the noodles were cooked, Lu Fan scooped them out and placed them into two large bowls.

Then, he evenly spread the sliced venison over the noodles and poured the hot seafood soup on top.

Instantly, under the action of the hot soup, the venison slices turned from bright red to an enticing brown. The tender aroma of the meat and the fresh aroma of the seafood soup perfectly blended, making one's mouth water.

"It looks really good, and most importantly, this is real meat!" An Lan couldn't help but swallow, looking at the delicious food in front of her.

"Don't rush, there's something even more exciting," Lu Fan said, picking up a few of the chili peppers he had picked earlier and unhesitatingly throwing them into his bowl.

An Lan watched Lu Fan's actions and couldn't help but worry for him.

"Are you sure you want to add so many chili peppers? These chili peppers look very spicy," An Lan asked worriedly.

"Don't worry, I'm a master of eating spicy food. These chili peppers are a piece of cake for me. You shouldn't underestimate the climate of Yunnan, Guizhou, and Sichuan," Lu Fan said, patting his chest confidently.

An Lan shook her head helplessly. She knew Lu Fan's temper; once he made up his mind, it was hard to change it.

So, she quietly prepared a cup of honey water for Lu Fan, just in case.

Everything was ready, and the two sat at the table, preparing to enjoy their sumptuous dinner.

Lu Fan impatiently picked up a mouthful of noodles with a slice of venison drenched in soup and a bright red chili pepper.

He took a deep breath, then stuffed it into his mouth.

At first, Lu Fan had an expression of enjoyment, continuously praising the deliciousness of the noodles.

However, after a short while, his face began to turn red, and fine beads of sweat appeared on his forehead.

"Cough, cough..."

Lu Fan suddenly started coughing violently, his face contorted in pain.

He coughed and mumbled indistinctly: "...Damn it!! Why is it so spicy?!"

Seeing this, An Lan quickly handed him the prepared honey water. "Here, drink some honey water to relieve the spiciness," An Lan said with a smile, though there was a hint of schadenfreude in her eyes.

Lu Fan took the honey water and gulped down several large mouthfuls.

However, the burning sensation in his throat did not diminish at all; instead, it grew stronger.

His tongue was already numb from the spiciness, making it difficult even to speak.

"What... what kind of chili pepper is this? How is it several times spicier than I imagined? I swear I've never eaten such spicy chili peppers in my life!"

Lu Fan gasped, speaking with difficulty.

An Lan looked at Lu Fan's disheveled appearance, laughing until tears almost came out.

"I told you not to add so many chili peppers, but you wouldn't listen. I think our ecological cylinder must have increased the spiciness of the chili peppers.

Think about it, the plants in the ecological cylinder grow quickly and well, so maybe even the spiciness of the chili peppers upgraded with them."

An Lan speculated with a smile.

Despite being choked by the chili peppers, Lu Fan was reluctant to waste this delicious seafood venison noodle soup.

He rested for a while, and when the burning sensation in his throat slightly eased, he continued to eat.

However, this time, he carefully picked out the chili peppers, no longer daring to try them easily.

An Lan looked at Lu Fan, finding it both funny and a little heartbreaking.

"You're just too stubborn. But this seafood venison noodle soup is indeed delicious; it's just as tasty even without the chili peppers," An Lan said, also starting to enjoy her bowl of noodles.

After a couple of bites, Lu Fan felt that the chili peppers were a bit of a waste.

So he picked up a chili pepper and threw it on the ground: "Dahei, come, eat something good."

Dahei excitedly ran over, but An Lan quickly stopped him, then punched Lu Fan: "You're really unscrupulous."

Lu Fan scratched his head: "What's wrong? Dogs can't eat chili peppers?"

"The digestive systems of canids are formed based on their evolution as carnivorous animals.

Their intestines are relatively short, and they digest and absorb food quickly, primarily adapted to digesting protein-rich foods like meat.

Capsaicin and other components in chili peppers are irritating foreign substances to a dog's digestive system, which may cause digestive dysfunction.

If you don't want Dahei to get diarrhea, it's best not to feed it to him."

Lu Fan suddenly understood and gave An Lan a thumbs up: "Heh heh, as expected of someone who studied medicine. Good thing you're here, otherwise Dahei would have been miserable."

An Lan rolled her eyes at him, then continued eating her noodles.

"Heh heh, you look really good when you roll your eyes at me."

"...Eat properly."
