53: Weak ewe
"Da Hei, Big Horn, time to head out and work."
In the woods, Lu Fan collected a large amount of fallen leaves, tied them into bundles with vines, and carried them on his back.
Meanwhile, Da Hei and Big Horn ran around, frolicking everywhere.
Da Hei even urinated all over the place to mark his territory.
While he was frolicking, he would occasionally pick up a few fallen leaves with his mouth and wag his tail as he ran back to give them to Lu Fan.
Big Horn followed slowly behind, never forgetting to take a few bites whenever he passed by some bushes.
Back at the composting site, Lu Fan first spread a thick layer of fallen leaves on the ground; this was the bottom layer of the compost, which would provide ventilation and drainage.
Then, Lu Fan began to collect Big Horn's manure, which was all in the shed where he lived.
He spread the collected manure evenly over the fallen leaves. The nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and other elements rich in the manure are important nutrients needed for plant growth.
"Next, it's time to find some weeds," Lu Fan muttered to himself.
He took Da Hei and Big Horn to an overgrown area and began to harvest weeds.
Da Hei watched curiously from the side, occasionally pawing at the cut weeds.
After collecting the weeds, Lu Fan piled them on top of the manure, forming a thick layer of weeds.
To make the compost ferment faster, he also fetched some water from the river and poured it evenly over the pile to maintain a certain level of humidity.
Finally, Lu Fan took two bamboo mats and covered the entire compost pile. This would maintain the temperature and humidity while preventing excessive rain from washing it away.
In the livestream room.
"Wow, this composting method looks so familiar. A few years ago, these kinds of dirt mounds were everywhere in the village."
"Village? You're from a village too? Amaterasu."
"Zhu Zi, do you think you're capable again?"
"Heh, as long as I feel like it... I could punch your lungs right out of you."
With the composting work temporarily finished and the seedlings in the seedbed growing vigorously, Lu Fan thought about improving the food on his table.
So, he decided to take Da Hei and Big Horn to the surrounding mountains and forests to try his luck and start a hunting trip.
"Da Hei, Big Horn, let's try to get some fresh meat today!" Lu Fan shouted high-spiritedly, holding a homemade spear with a sharp blade at his waist.
Da Hei was so excited that he jumped up and down, circling Lu Fan and barking urgently from time to time, as if urging him to set off quickly.
Big Horn swayed his head slowly and followed unhurriedly behind.
As soon as they entered the mountain forest, Da Hei rushed out like an arrow from a bow, using his keen sense of smell to scout the path ahead.
Sometimes he dove into dense thickets, and sometimes he darted between tall trees, startling flocks of birds into flight.
Lu Fan and Big Horn moved forward steadily behind him. Lu Fan kept a constant eye on his surroundings, not missing any sign that might hide prey.
As Big Horn walked, he nibbled on the fresh wild grass by the roadside. Occasionally, he would stop and look up at his surroundings, seemingly sensing the atmosphere of the mountain forest.
Just as they were deep in the forest searching carefully for prey, Da Hei suddenly stopped.
His nose kept sniffing the air, his ears stood bolt upright, and his fur bristled slightly as he entered a state of high alert.
[Weak female Mountain Goat discovered ahead]
Seeing this, Lu Fan immediately became alert. He looked in the direction of Da Hei's gaze and saw a white figure swaying slightly in the grass not far away.
Just as Da Hei was about to pounce, Lu Fan held him down: "Be good, you're not allowed to go."
"Since it's a female Mountain Goat, she should produce milk." That was Lu Fan's thought at the moment.
Lu Fan approached cautiously, gripping his spear tightly, ready to deal with any sudden situation.
As he got closer, he saw the ewe clearly.
She looked very thin and weak, her wool was a bit messy, and her eyes revealed exhaustion and vigilance.
The ewe also spotted Lu Fan's group and tried to turn and run.
But after just a few steps, she staggered, clearly weakened to the extreme.
"This goat looks like she's about to die," Lu Fan said softly.
He put down his spear and slowly walked towards the ewe, making soft sounds to soothe her nervous emotions.
Da Hei and Big Horn followed. Da Hei stared curiously at the ewe, sniffing incessantly.
Big Horn stood to the side, watching it all quietly.
The ewe felt the Animal Affinity from Lu Fan. She stopped struggling and just stood quietly in place.
However, when she saw Da Hei, fear flickered in her eyes.
Da Hei was eager to move, ready to bare his fangs at any moment.
Lu Fan slapped Da Hei on the head. Da Hei's gaze immediately became clear, and he stuck out his tongue.
In the livestream room.
"Good grief, one slap turns a Wolf King into a Husky."
"Hahaha, Da Hei is so entertaining."
"It's been two minutes and this Mountain Goat hasn't died yet. I dare to predict that this Mountain Goat isn't dead for the time being."
"Fine, fine, is the person upstairs the legendary 'Tumble Dryer' (Conan)?"
"Is Great God Lu Fan going to take this Mountain Goat back to the Shelter? After all, he's not short on food for now."
"That's not bad either, it can be a reserve food supply for emergencies."
Lu Fan checked the ewe's body and found no obvious external injuries. She was probably weak from some kind of fright or being chased.
"Let's take her back to the Shelter and see if we can save her," Lu Fan said to Da Hei and Big Horn, as if they could understand him.
Da Hei wagged his tail happily, seemingly in agreement.
Big Horn let out a soft "moo" as a response.
So, Lu Fan carefully helped the ewe up, let her lean against him, and walked toward the Shelter step by step.
Da Hei led the way, occasionally looking back at the ewe and drooling, but Lu Fan glared him back.
Big Horn followed slowly behind, as if guarding everyone.
Along the way, the ewe's steps were very heavy, but she never gave up, trudging forward with Lu Fan's support.
After returning to the Shelter, Lu Fan immediately prepared fresh water and some tender green grass for the ewe.
He sprinkled some salt on the grass.
The ewe first cautiously licked the water, then drank greedily. After finishing the water, she began to devour the grass ravenously.
Da Hei and Big Horn watched quietly from the side, their eyes filled with curiosity.
Under Lu Fan's careful care, the ewe gradually regained her strength. Her wool became smooth, and her eyes became bright and spirited.
She looked at Lu Fan with more affection and stuck out her tongue to lick his hand.
"Baa Baa baa~"
