146: Revenge for revenge, repay favor for favor
The day’s lessons from the Formal Wizard teacher had concluded.
Green and Ally both gained a lot, feeling their horizons greatly broadened, and seeing a clear path forward for their future studies.
The two of them gained much confidence in mastering this complex and difficult first-order innate wizardry.
But no matter how much they gained, it couldn't fill their stomachs, so the two went to the Beef Burger Shack for dinner.
Green had long ago instructed his personal chef that tonight’s meal would be a Rib-Themed Feast.
Braised ribs, steamed ribs with rice flour;
Sweet and sour ribs, ribs stewed with taro;
Dry pot ribs, salt and pepper ribs;
Steamed ribs with black bean sauce, Cantonese char siu ribs;
Ribs braised in soy sauce, Korean spicy sauce braised ribs;
Stewed crispy ribs, garlic ribs;
Ribs stewed with tomatoes, rosemary roasted ribs;
Honey-glazed roasted ribs, black bean ribs;
And finally, a large pot of rib soup, clear broth, with only salt, nothing else added.
The main focus was on original flavor; the most delicious meals only require the simplest cooking… This was Green’s dinner, while Ally naturally had her fruit salad and vegetable salad prepared.
The two didn't bother each other, each eating their own meal.
While eating, they also discussed the content of the class… Time always felt excruciatingly slow when studying.
But when a person seriously focuses on a task and is immersed in learning, they don’t notice the passage of time.
Green’s current learning environment could be described as excellent.
He had an experienced Formal Wizard as a teacher to answer questions and clear doubts, Ally was by his side studying with him, and the several old wizards from the academy who were also studying would occasionally hold exchange meetings.
The academy was also vigorously scouting for talent, and more and more people joined the research of this first-order wizardry: 8, 9, 12… One year later, in May of the 25th year of the wizard's path.
After three years, Green successfully stabilized his three Spiritual Power rune chains.
This meant that Green could personally begin to practice constructing the prototype of the Plant Guardian Force Field in his Spiritual Sea, and Green’s learning progress soared as a result.
As for Ally, because she had advanced two years earlier than Green, she had completed the triangular stabilization of her Spiritual Power chains before studying the first-order wizardry… With the opportunity to practice, Green gradually began to catch up with Ally’s progress.
Green also didn’t need to take external combat missions, so the Devil Squad could only go out and complete missions on their own.
Green would also gather with Adler and the others in his spare time.
The middle of each month was still the day for Green and his friends to gather and socialize.
Green was a pure White Wizard and would not deliberately pursue anything unrestrained.
Instead, he greatly enjoyed his time happily with friends… During this period, Green had a lot of time.
He was no longer as busy as before, constantly on the go.
At the same time, Green’s status had undergone earth-shattering changes, and some things he couldn’t do before now had a turning point.
Therefore, Green specifically spent some time and effort to resolve some old matters.
Back when Green was in the C-level laboratory, he had recorded someone’s name in his little notebook.
Green was not a magnanimous person, nor was he a great saint with a broad mind.
He was merely a mortal.
He had love and hate, joy and sorrow; as long as conditions allowed, Green would not forcibly suppress or go against his true nature.
Becoming Green’s enemy meant retribution would come, it was just a matter of time.
When the time came, retribution would follow… For this, Green specifically consulted Oakes.
After Green stopped going out for combat, Oakes, the armor maintenance specialist, became restless from idleness.
So.
Oakes found another job, joining the academy’s Apothecary Association; this guy’s social butterfly nature was incredible, and in just one year, he became the head of the organizational department of the Apothecary Association.
This was a first-rate department with real power; although there was a lot of work, the power he held was considerable.
From Oakes, it was learned that the academy’s 3-Star Apprentice Apothecary usually had three arrangements:
One was to serve as a team leader in a certain laboratory, responsible for the execution and management of some Apothecary tasks and the training of new Apprentice Apothecary.
This was generally only available to those talented individuals with some prospects among the reserve talents. This was also the best career path for a 3-Star Apprentice Apothecary in the academy—high salary, less work, respectable status, and dignified.
The second was to serve as a revered Apothecary for various small organizations, responsible for refining some potions they needed, essentially a more advanced technical worker.
For example, small families affiliated with the academy, various combat squads, special invitations from the great nobles of the Motlan Grand Kingdom, etc. This path was suitable for 3-Star Apprentice Apothecary who were looking to retire or felt their future was hopeless.
This kind of work offered freedom and ease, with the amount of work entirely voluntary, but it had no prospects, no room for improvement, and generally average status.
The third was to accept academy mission assignments and be stationed at various resource points. The academy currently had more than a dozen permanent large resource supply bases that needed Apothecary, responsible for refining some local unique potions and some basic combat-required potions.
This path was relatively dangerous; although the remuneration was high, personal safety was not guaranteed, and it involved a 10-year deployment.
For a 3-Star Apprentice Apothecary, this was tantamount to being exiled to the frontier. Only compulsory missions or old wizards accumulating resources for their descendants would consider long-term stationing at supply bases… Green spent a large sum of magic stones, using Oakes’ family connections.
He had the person on his small notebook assigned to the academy’s most dangerous supply base, a newly developed resource supply base on the Misty Island.
The previous stationed Apothecary had just been killed by some Black Wizard, and it was a time when manpower was scarce.
So.
The person on the small notebook, upon receiving the mandatory mission, embarked on a path of life and death with trepidation.
Green stood at the crystal window of the Wizard Tower’s fourth-floor library at the time, seeing him off:
“Have a safe journey.”
“If you are lucky enough to return alive, let’s call our grievances even.”
“My dear Lord Liam.”
...A civilized world has civilized rules.
The world of White Wizard naturally has its own rules.
Back then, Green relied on the academy’s rules for protection, stumbling along the way, and growing to his current height.
Therefore, retaliation against enemies must also be carried out within the bounds of the rules.
Green strongly agreed with this rule.
Confronting and shaming someone directly is not as satisfying as sending a foolish enemy directly to rock bottom and then using someone else to kill them.
Watching his enemy look utterly bewildered, not knowing where the attack came from, and living in constant suffering and torment, Green felt the joy of revenge.
Green could foresee that the moment Liam’s death news arrived would be the ultimate climax of Green’s release and satisfaction!
Even if Liam had incredible luck and miraculously survived ten years, having suffered for those ten years and having his progress halted for a decade, his life would be over, and Green’s greatest grudge would be avenged.
Steady as I am!
It’s truly me!
...Revenge for grudges, gratitude for kindness.
Green, having gained sufficient power, also began to settle his old debts.
Revenge must be within the academy’s rules, and gratitude naturally must also be within the academy’s rules.
But rules are not without human touch; when you are powerful enough, your human touch has considerable value, and others will give you face.
As a rising star of the academy, an Advanced Wizard Apprentice, one of the academy’s peak combat powers, and a member of the academy’s highest management committee, having slain several renowned Black Wizard, Green’s reputation was quite effective in the academy.
Green first treated Andy to a meal; after more than a decade of unremitting effort, Andy had also, through his bitter persistence, earned the title of 3-Star Apprentice Apothecary.
That made things easier.
After dinner, Green arranged for Andy to be a team leader in another new B-level laboratory.
This was a good position.
Green even specifically greeted the big boss of that B-level laboratory, asking him to help take care of Andy.
This big boss was also one of those studying the first-order wizardry, a 5-star Apothecary.
They were all fellow disciples and studied together; Green settled it with him over a drink… “This…”
“Perhaps this is also one of the reasons why I’m willing to risk my life to climb higher,” Green thought to himself.
“Only with sufficient power and capital can one gain the limited—freedom to control one’s own destiny.”
