23: Sherlock Holmes - Oakes

The next day, early in the morning.

Green stood downstairs, calling Oakes and Ally to join him for breakfast.

Because there was an otherworldly version of the opening ceremony this morning.

The group chatted lively, enjoying their breakfast as they talked.

However, it was mostly Oakes and Ally speaking, with Green listening.

Because Green’s mouth was very busy...

Ally’s breakfast: Just a small bowl of fairy fruit salad, a slice of blueberry toast, and a medium cup of hot milk.

It was extremely simple, no wonder Ally’s waist was so slender, probably from hunger.

Green thought to himself, scoffing.

Oakes’s breakfast was standard fare.

A chicken wrap, a plate of diced beef with mashed potatoes, a bowl of corn and vegetable thick soup, plus a large cup of hot oat milk...

But Green’s breakfast was much more luxurious:

A roasted chicken leg, two slices of Angus pan-fried steak;

A small portion of lamb, a small bowl of stewed monkfish;

A plate of cold okra salad, three steamed beef 窩骨 (beef neck bones);

A small bowl of beef bone soup, a large cup of freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juice;

A large cup of hot milk...

This set meal, with its balanced nutrition, had meat and vegetables, fish and meat, dishes and soup, and was one of Green’s ten favorite breakfast sets.

And Green, under the strange gazes of the two, wolfed down all the food on the table.

At this point, Ally still had one-third of her salad left, and Oakes had half of his mashed potatoes unfinished...

"You guys eat, don’t just stare at me."

"Can’t you even finish this little bit?" Green said, wiping his mouth with a napkin after finishing his meal.

"Cough, cough, Green."

"I feel like watching you eat has already filled me up."

"Didn’t you have a huge meal last night?"

"You ate more hotpot lamb than the three of us combined."

"But looking at the speed you’re eating breakfast, it’s like you haven’t eaten for three days and three nights." Oakes asked in surprise.

"Oh, speaking of three days and three nights..." Oakes thought for a moment.

"I remember, Green, you once went into seclusion for three days and three nights before."

"Then when you came out, you said you were starving, and without even waiting for Ally, you dragged me off to celebrate."

"At that time, you ate yourself sick with such ferocity."

"Bigg and I even had to help you walk around for a while to digest it."

"Holy crap... Green... you didn’t eat anything at all during your seclusion, did you? Didn’t you drink a Satiety Potion?" Oakes’s eyes widened in disbelief, looking at Green as if he were a monster.

"No way... I drank a Satiety Potion..."

"That stuff tastes awful, just smelling it almost made me vomit..." Green explained.

"Case closed! The truth is confirmed! I was wondering where the danger in Wizard Academy could be? It turns out you caused it yourself, you almost starved yourself to death!!! You really are a talent, Green!" Oakes excitedly stood up and shouted loudly...

"Swish... swish... swish..."

The entire North Dining Area on the first floor.

Everyone who was eating, about to eat, packing food, or passing by... all turned their heads and stared at Green.

Green was so embarrassed he wanted to use his five toes to dig out a three-bedroom, one-living-room apartment in the floor.

"Oakes, stop shouting, sit down and eat."

As he spoke, Green reached out to pull Oakes, trying to stop his outburst...

"Green, is this true?" Ally was also looking Green up and down with strange eyes, as if wanting to pierce through his skin to see how his brain was structured.

"It’s not what you think, how could I be so stupid?"

"Ally, don’t listen to Oakes’s nonsense, he must have had too much to drink last night and isn’t sober yet." Green quickly explained.

But Green’s explanation, in Oakes’s eyes, was merely an attempt to cover up his shame and anger.

As a top social butterfly, Oakes had a natural talent for reading people since childhood.

No one had ever been able to deceive Oakes’s eyes when it came to faked emotions.

Especially not Green, this socially awkward homebody.

In the ten years he had known him, Oakes had never seen Green in such a state, as if he was furious from having a secret exposed...

How could he not be furious?

However... Green was angry because Oakes was praising him as a “talent” in front of so many people, and attracting so many onlookers.

Green now felt like killing this guy.

Seeing Green showing signs of going berserk... Oakes became even more convinced of his guess, straying further and further down the path of distorting the truth.

However, Oakes also didn’t dare to provoke Green further, so he quickly got up and left, not even finishing his meal.

"Let’s go, let’s go, judging by the time, the opening ceremony is about to begin."

... The opening ceremony in the Wizarding World was similar to the university opening ceremonies Green had attended on Blue Star.

A bunch of leaders came, invited a bunch of influential people to observe, and then delivered a series of uninspired, feel-good speeches.

The Academy’s Academic Supervisor (equivalent to the Vice Principal in charge of teaching) took the stage to speak and deliver a speech.

He wished the students — a bright future.

This year’s Grade Supervisor (equivalent to the Head of Grade) took the stage to speak and deliver a speech.

He wished the students — a soaring future.

The Mentor representative — a Pharmacology Mentor (according to Ally, this was her Mentor Serena, the kind who formally accepts disciples to pass on her legacy) took the stage to speak and deliver a speech.

She wished the students — to never forget their original aspirations.

The invited outstanding graduate, Senior Reinhardt, took the stage to speak and deliver a speech.

He wished the students — that man can conquer nature.

The representative of outstanding new students — Ally, took the stage to speak and deliver a speech.

She led the students in a pledge — to create new glories...

After this round, a whole morning had passed.

And so, it was time for a pleasant lunch, and Green, who had been drowsy, suddenly perked up.

The four-person team reassembled at the Beef Burger Shack.

Fearing another embarrassing incident like the morning, Green chose to sit in a small private room in the restaurant.

Under the curious gazes of the other three, Green ate twice the amount of food he had consumed that morning.

Oakes, Bigg, and Ally outwardly kept talking about interesting recent events at the Academy.

In reality, the three of them were constantly exchanging glances, looking at Green for a moment, then at each other, their eyes revealing a clear “just as expected” sentiment.

Green had no time to care what kind of mischief they were up to; the world was big, but eating was bigger.

If he couldn’t even concentrate on eating, what else could he concentrate on?

So Green usually only focused on delicious food when he ate.

After lunch, everyone went to their respective classes...

Somehow, a rumor quickly spread throughout the Academy...

Apprentice A: "Hey, did you know, there’s a peculiar person in our Academy..."

Apprentice B: "What peculiar person? Tell me about it."

Apprentice A: "Well, there’s an Apprentice, he’s really awesome."

"He focused on practicing wizardry to the point of forgetting to eat and sleep, not drinking a single drop for three days and three nights, literally pushing himself to the brink of starvation."

"Then, when he came out of seclusion, he literally swallowed a whole cow, and after that, he awakened his bloodline."

"I heard the effect of his bloodline is to increase mental excitement, equivalent to drinking a bottle of Sobering Potion."

"I’m so envious of this lucky Apprentice, I want that kind of bloodline too."

Apprentice B retorted: "That’s not right..."

"I was having breakfast on the first floor, north section, at the time."

"I heard this Apprentice was heartbroken and went on a hunger strike for five days and five nights."

"Then his dream girl couldn’t bear it and brought him a loving breakfast, and he immediately awakened his bloodline after eating it."

"A certain high-ranking member of a society was also present at the time and was shouting loudly."

"There are pictures and proof..."

"Look, this is my sketch of the scene."

Apprentice C, passing by at this moment, interjected:

"None of you are right."

"I heard he was a simp."

"To win a bet and make his girlfriend happy, he went on a hunger strike for seven days and seven nights, then found out his girlfriend had found another bedmate, the one he made the bet with."

"His rage completely ignited his rationality, and that’s when his bloodline awakened."

... The situation developed in increasingly unpredictable directions, the rumors became more and more exaggerated, and the truth gradually became buried in boundless falsehoods.

All of this must be attributed to our Wizarding World’s Sherlock Holmes — Young Master Oakes!
