183: Convincing Mr. Joyce (I)
Wizard Tower, seventh floor, "Heart of Plants" laboratory.
In front of a massive floor-to-ceiling window, occupying 80% of one wall.
The two most powerful and influential people at Plant Heart Academy were leisurely sipping premium black tea, a tribute from the Motlan Grand Kingdom, while admiring the beautiful clouds outside the window, the distant forest wonderland, and the pastoral scenery below.
"Glynn, tell me, why reform?"
"Why the rush to strengthen Plant Heart Academy?"
Lord Joyce had by now shed his disguise, reverting to a handsome young man, though he still retained his inner-cultivated white hair.
"You are a smart child. Although I've only known you for five or six years, I know you have a personality that dislikes trouble."
"Never standing if he can sit, never sitting if he can lie down—what is it that makes you, Glynn, willing to stir up so much trouble, sacrificing your time and energy for it? I am very curious."
Lord Joyce had lived for over four hundred years, and his wisdom was already near-demonic. Such a significant change in a person over a short period clearly had a reason.
In his previous understanding, Glynn, after becoming a Formal Wizard, would gain enough security, then relax and lie flat for a while before slowly considering studying and developing Plant Heart Academy.
Lord Joyce had secretly already labeled Glynn—
Glynn had a 99% chance of stopping at a Tier 1 Wizard and less than a 1% chance of becoming a Tier 2 Wizard.
But now, it seemed this label needed to change...
"It's for profit, Teacher."
"It's a fundamental interest that concerns the smoothness of my wizard's path in the future."
Glynn was also cursing in his heart at this moment:
"Don't I want to lie flat happily?"
"Don't I want to rest after 18 years of crazy internal competition?"
"Do you know how I spent these 18 years? Three years, then three years, then three years again. I worked hard and competed internally for six whole three-year periods, equivalent to six high school periods!"
"Every day, from 7 AM to 12 AM, I worked hard and persevered. If it weren't for this carrot dangling in front of me, pulling me forward, if it weren't for this Golden Finger being powerful enough to help me overcome countless difficulties, I don't even know if I could have lasted."
"I even admire myself. In 18 years, with the help of the Golden Finger—Hundredfold Harvest for effort—I successfully grew from a pseudo-academic to a true academic."
"Now, if you let me go back to my third year of high school on Blue Star, give me one year to study, and then take the college entrance exam, with the academic mindset and study habits I've cultivated, prestigious 985 and 211 universities would be mine for the picking..."
"If it weren't for the major shareholder (The Crown of the Scales of Truth) having performance reviews, and if I failed the review, I'd be forcibly exiled to the great desert, would I be so eager to implement reforms and development?"
"Alas, the more I say, the more tears flow..."
Glynn knew that for this reform to succeed, he had to gain the full support of Teacher Joyce.
Therefore, Glynn dared not hide or deceive in the slightest.
"Teacher Joyce, the fundamental reason for all of this is my promotion to Formal Wizard."
"When I was promoted to Formal Wizard, I realized the path I would take in the future: to promote the development of Wizard civilization through reform, and to contend for destiny through the merits of Wizard civilization's development."
"As long as my contribution to the development of Wizard civilization is great enough, my favor of destiny will be abundant enough. This way, my wizard's path in the future will be smoother."
"As expected!"
There was no change in Lord Joyce's deep eyes, clearly he had anticipated this explanation.
"Haha..."
"Glynn, you don't need to be nervous. This kind of change happens to every Formal Wizard."
"Every Formal Wizard, after promotion, will receive more or less guidance from destiny from The Crown of the Scales of Truth. This guidance is always positive, lighting up your lighthouse forward. If you follow the path guided by destiny, you will achieve twice the result with half the effort."
"And Glynn, perhaps your destiny's guidance is to develop Wizard civilization."
"No—"
"Teacher, I feel that the scope of my destiny's guidance is very broad: personal rune innovation, Wizard civilization development innovation, Wizard training model innovation, repairing the scars of the earth... and so on. I can do all of it. As long as it is beneficial to the civilization development and world restoration of our Wizard World, I can receive rewards from destiny."
"Then why did you choose Wizard civilization development innovation from the start? I've seen the reform plan you submitted, and it's mostly about reforming our academy's system and mechanisms."
"Is there a reason for this?"
"Teacher, ah haha..."
Glynn was a little embarrassed, but he still brazenly said:
"Isn't it because you, Teacher, are here?"
"You, a Tier 2 Advanced Wizard, can only stay at Mist Coast for 10 years. Am I not asking you to exert your last bit of light and warmth, to give warmth and care to the tens of thousands of Wizards in our academy?"
"As long as you, Teacher, fully support me, the resistance to my reforms will be much smaller. In just 10 years, I will be able to completely implement my reform ideas for the academy. During this time, you can also guide me more, so that in 10 years, I will have a powerful Plant Heart Academy."
"In the future, I can also worry less and have more time to delve into profound Wizard knowledge..."
Glynn spoke these words frankly and openly, all of which came from his heart...
"You rascal..."
Lord Joyce smiled faintly and pointed at Glynn.
"You're not even letting go of my last bit of value. You want to treat your teacher as a laborer, squeezing him until the very last moment, don't you?"
"Then have you considered another way?"
"Glynn, for a Wizard, any power can be attributed to oneself; one's own power is the most important. No matter how well the academy develops, it's just external assistance."
"If you want to reform and develop Plant Heart Academy, you will have to spend a lot of time dealing with the academy's miscellaneous affairs over these ten years. This will consume a huge amount of your time and energy."
"You know, my time is only 10 years. Are you giving up 10 years of full guidance from a Tier 2 Wizard?"
"For these 10 years, instead of concentrating on studying with me, you're getting distracted by going off to reform the academy?"
"Miss this village, and you won't find this shop. Glynn, you need to think carefully!"
