135: How can you eat vegetarian food after just having a little bit of meat?

"Section Chief Gu sure knows how to do business. From what I’m hearing, I’m not getting any benefits at all? Besides, that security company you gave me last time was just an empty shell; when I got there, not even a single hair was left."

"If we're to reach some kind of consensus, shouldn't we settle this debt first?"

"Now you've brought so many people expecting me to support them for free, and your only bargaining chip is a flimsy promise to listen to me. Gu Jie, I'm really not short of people like you guys."

"---"

Gu Jie was left speechless by her rebuff. He wondered if he had somehow offended Si Nan. Why did she have such a bad impression of him? What was frustrating was the coincidence—she had happened to seize Yunshu Mountain Villa first.

In Si Nan's view, Gu Jie only saw that there was no chance left for Yunshu Mountain Villa. It wasn't that he didn't want to seize it, but that with Luo Sen there, they didn't dare to. That's why he was backing down and surrendering.

Wishful thinking. Did he take her for a fool?

If Gu Jie couldn't produce a decent, tempting pledge of loyalty, she wouldn't take a single one of them!

On this side, Gu Jie was truly having a headache. He was completely out of options against Si Nan, so he fixed his gaze on his only bargaining chip—the Armored Vehicle!

So he said earnestly to Si Nan, "How about we join with the Armored Vehicle? This Armored Vehicle wasn't easy to get. We fought another gang for a long time and sacrificed half of our brothers to obtain it."

"There were still over a dozen people when you sent us back, but now there are only six of us including me. My family suffered another Zombie attack, and only two children hidden in a metal cabinet survived."

"Si Nan, you're the only person I've ever begged in my life. Please take in the eight of us, big and small. The six of us can drive the Armored Vehicle out every day to scavenge for supplies."

The others nearby also hurried to plead, "Yeah, Si Nan, for the sake of our acquaintance—we served the Residential Area for many years and are trustworthy. Please let us stay?"

"Right, right, we're all trained security guards; we can do a lot of things."

"Boss, beautiful lady, don't hesitate anymore. If you wait any longer, we'll freeze to death outside Yunshu Mountain Villa."

Gu Jie and the others had said enough. To be precise, it was the Armored Vehicle and the fact that they were trained security guards that moved her.

Bai Zichuan, Song Yuan, and the others were already at Yunshu Mountain Villa. It had only been half a day and nothing had happened yet, but people in other buildings would surely be envious of the supplies the third floor of MOS received. Who knows what might happen.

Taking in Gu Jie's group to suppress other thugs with force made them the best candidates.

"Fine, you can follow me, but there's one rule you must not break," Si Nan said after some consideration.

Gu Jie and the others were overjoyed. "Which rule? Don't just say one; we'd agree even to ten or a hundred."

The others excitedly gave their affirmation, "Yes, yes, we agree to everything unconditionally."

"Following me requires absolute loyalty," Si Nan said, "otherwise you'll die very quickly."

"Boss, don't worry. We will definitely be loyal. If you ever spot even a hint of bad intentions, don't hold back—you can take us out directly."

Gu Jie smiled and changed how he addressed her, personally calling Si Nan 'Boss'.

"Boss, we swear to the heavens to be loyal to you, or may lightning strike us down." The others also hurried to show their loyalty.

Si Nan curled her lips. "Alright then, hurry back overnight to build the Great Wall."

"What? Build the Great Wall? What Great Wall?" Gu Jie didn't understand, and the others looked at each other in confusion.

Si Nan patiently gave them a brief explanation. Looking at Yunshu Mountain Villa right before his eyes, Gu Jie was truly reluctant to leave, but he had to turn the vehicle around and drive back.

They had finally managed to leave the Residential Area, only to return to where they started. But at least their future meals were secured. Originally, they had been full of vigor and determined to take down Yunshu Mountain Villa; it had been their biggest goal for the past month.

They thought that after taking Yunshu Mountain Villa, they would no longer fear Zombies. There would surely be plenty of food stored inside, and if all else failed, they could farm the land there and never starve. Who would have thought—instead of the slave turning master and singing of freedom, they hadn't become their own masters, and the good life hadn't arrived; now they had become someone else's underlings instead.

Si Nan didn't bother further. As for whether Gu Jie and the others could make it back to the Residential Area alive, that was none of her business.

"Time to eat." Luo Sen had set out three dishes and a soup, along with a large pot of rice—this guy could finish a whole pot in one meal by himself. The two of them ate while playing news from The Authorities on their phones.

After dinner, Luo Sen shamelessly pestered Si Nan to sleep in the same bed. Having just had a taste of meat, how could he go back to veggies!

Unbeknownst to them while they slept, in the middle of the night, Gu Jie and his group cleared out a nearby detached villa of considerable size and settled in, right across from Si Nan's place.

The group looked at Si Nan's brightly lit house with immense envy. "Everyone else is in total darkness, yet her house is brighter while she's asleep than anyone else's. As expected of the Boss."

"Yeah, Daddy, why is that big sister's house so bright?"

Gu Jie stroked his younger daughter's head and said helplessly, "That's because the big sister found a Generator. We'll have one too in the future."

"Oh, oh. Can our house get one soon? I can't even see the door when I go to the bathroom." The younger daughter was very obedient and was taken to bed by her older sister.

Except for the two children, Gu Jie and the other five didn't sleep all night. They used flashlights to pick through everything useful inside and outside the house, reinforcing the courtyard and house doors overnight, wrapping all the windows tightly with wire, and boarding up broken windows with thick planks.

By dawn, they had just finished. Unfortunately, all the food in the house had been scavenged by someone. Luckily, there was still some rice and flour left in the security room from before they left, but with the Black Water, they couldn't wash the rice or cook. They had been starving until now.

When Si Nan sent them back, they had been confident that with an Armored Vehicle, they wouldn't have to worry about finding supplies—it seemed like a piece of cake. But after actually going out to scavenge once, they didn't want to go a second time.

There were too many Zombies. After finishing off one batch, another would come. After that group, another would arrive immediately. Bullets were fired one after another, but the Zombies would fall and then get back up; they could never be fully killed.

Their numbers had started dwindling from then on, from over a dozen down to just six. Seeing subordinates he had worked with for years fall one by one, bitten and turned into Zombies, becoming enemies in an instant... seeing the subordinates he had personally trained being torn apart and eaten by Zombies... those images, that sight—he never wanted to experience it again. His heart, liver, and lungs all ached with pain.

That was why he had to risk attacking Yunshu Mountain Villa, hoping to obtain this luxurious and safe sanctuary. Unfortunately, he had arrived too late.

Upon learning that Si Nan had seized it first, he resolutely chose to seek refuge with her.

Though this girl wasn't old, she was a legend. Only by following her would there be a way to survive. He trusted his judgment!
