51: He was wrong. Si Nan was not a celestial maiden, but a god of death.
"Mm-hmm." Frightened by her cold gaze, Bai Zichuan felt much better and stopped vomiting, nodding frantically.
Only then did Si Nan withdraw her gaze from him and continue observing the area around the Oil Tankers.
Ten minutes later, all the awakened zombies had chased after that group of people.
"Go!" Si Nan made a hand gesture and led the way through the zombies, running quickly toward the Oil Tankers. Closer, closer, even closer.
Estimating the distance between her and the Oil Tankers, she suddenly waved her hand, but the distance was still too far, and they weren't taken into her space. Not until she was within ten meters of the Oil Tankers did she wave again, and the three Oil Tankers suddenly vanished.
"Mmph!" Bai Zichuan almost cried out, but fortunately covered his mouth in time, his eyes wide with shock like a bull's as he stared at Si Nan.
Si Nan didn't even need to look to know his reaction. Ignoring him, she swiftly moved toward the express delivery containers. She first checked the two front delivery trucks whose rear doors weren't open. Seeing no zombies in the cabs, she immediately took them into her space.
Then she went to the two in the back. A problem arose: there was actually a living zombie inside the cab of the third truck. He was stuck by something. Seeing Si Nan, he suddenly let out a "roar" and reached out with flailing claws.
This roar was a problem; the scattered zombies nearby that had just entered a light sleep woke up and began staggering over.
"I'll hold them off." Bai Zichuan gripped his military shovel tightly.
Si Nan ignored him and the zombies, running to the back of the truck, opening the rear door, and taking all the packages inside into her space.
But before she could jump down, Bai Zichuan started fighting the zombies.
She quickly ran to the back door of the last express delivery container. Opening it revealed a bloody mess inside with two half-bodied living zombies. With one shovel strike each, she killed the two half-bodied zombies and swiftly took all the packages.
Then she jumped down and shouted, "Follow me, run!"
"Roger, right behind you." Bai Zichuan was currently surrounded on all sides.
Helpless, Si Nan ran over to help him take down two, finally allowing Bai Zichuan to break free. The two of them bolted in a straight line toward the community gate, with more and more zombies chasing them from behind.
"Roar~" Suddenly, several tall and powerful zombies rushed toward them from the front.
"Get lost!" Si Nan veered off course, taking down the zombies blocking the way as she cleared a path.
Bai Zichuan felt particularly useless; a grown man relying on a woman for protection. His male pride gave him a boost in motivation, and his fear of zombies decreased significantly as he gripped his military shovel and began killing.
"Roar roar roar~" The commotion grew louder, and the zombies increased in number.
Si Nan saw that if they didn't run soon, they would be surrounded, making escape very difficult. "Stop killing and run!"
"Okay, I'm right behind you," Bai Zichuan howled.
"Don't fall behind. If you fall behind, you die." Si Nan suddenly accelerated, lunging forward a great distance.
"Huh?" Bai Zichuan cried out in surprise and immediately used his long legs to catch up. Thus, the two ran and fought until they reached the community's main gate.
"Open the gate!" Si Nan shouted at the community gate, but the security guard who ran out saw so many zombies and didn't dare open it at all.
The two had no choice but to stand back-to-back at the gate and go on a killing spree. With every fall of Si Nan's blade, severed limbs flew and black blood splattered. The iron gate of the community, the walls, and the ground were all covered in black blood.
The commotion caught the attention of the night-owl Property Owners in the high-rises. They took out their phones to film the scene. "My god, who are these two? They've gone mad with killing."
"What's strange is they must have gone out to find food, but look at them—their hands and backs are empty. Are these two idiots?"
"Maybe they just like killing. Anyway, killing anyone isn't illegal now."
"I think these two are just putting on a show."
Si Nan killed the last zombie with a smack of her shovel and looked up. "Then why don't you come down and try 'putting on a show'?"
The person above instantly shrank back and slammed the window shut with a "clap."
Si Nan looked at the security guard inside the gate. "Are you opening the gate or not?"
"Opening it!" In less than a second, the iron gate of the community swung open with a bang.
Si Nan and Bai Zichuan rushed inside, and the two of them helped the guard slam the gate shut.
"Roar roar roar~" The zombies locked outside were furious; the meat they were about to eat was gone.
"Phew~" Si Nan let out a long breath, her whole body relaxing.
Bai Zichuan's legs went weak, and he slumped to the ground as if he had just had a nightmare. In the dream, he had followed a girl into a great battle against zombies; if not for her, he would have died in their mouths several times over.
And that girl was currently standing before him, like a celestial maiden standing in the white snow. He looked up at the fluttering white snow, feeling as if it were a dream— "What are you looking at? You have a wife and Child, yet you're still having flights of fancy?"
Bai Zichuan: "..."
He was wrong. Si Nan wasn't a celestial maiden; she was a God of Slaughter.
After grumbling internally, Bai Zichuan scrambled up to follow Si Nan. "My reward—"
"Yeah, aren't we going? Lead the way." Si Nan didn't say much; she was busy thinking.
"Lead the way? Where to?" Bai Zichuan didn't react for a moment.
Si Nan tilted her head and looked at him like he was an idiot. "To your house, of course."
"Oh, oh, okay." Bai Zichuan was stunned for a moment, surprised, but then he figured someone as cold as Si Nan wouldn't joke with him, so he stepped ahead to lead the way.
As they walked, Si Nan suddenly asked Bai Zichuan, "How many rooms does your place have?"
"Uh, two bedrooms and a living room. Why?" Bai Zichuan grew more and more confused. What did she mean by asking about his apartment layout? Was she not going back to her own safe house and staying at his place instead?
He soon understood. After arriving home, he followed Si Nan's instructions and shut his wife and Child in the bedroom. When he came out, he saw his living room and the children's room packed to the brim with express delivery boxes.
Si Nan stood at his doorway with a smile. "This is what you earned. These are the contents of two of the four express delivery trucks. I don't know what's inside either."
After speaking, she turned around and added with her back to Bai Zichuan, "Remember our three-point agreement."
"Don't worry, I'll keep it in mind at all times. Take care. Same old rules—if there's more work, please consider me first." Bai Zichuan nodded gratefully.
"We'll see," Si Nan gave him two words and resolutely departed.
The high-rise residential area and her rural villa area were in the same community, but they were far apart; even walking took half an hour.
However, the two were separated by a large, beautiful landscaped recreation area, and there was usually little interaction between them.
Because most people living in the villas looked down on those in the residential buildings, feeling superior, though in reality, there was no difference.
If she had acted alone today, she would have been faster, but the gain was that Bai Zichuan proved to be trustworthy. Although his skills relied entirely on brute force, she saw clearly that he was ruthless enough when it counted.
On the way, she happened to encounter a group of people returning from outside. Everyone was excitedly talking about their great harvest, carrying items in their hands and on their backs.
Si Nan glanced at their tattered clothes and exposed skin, passed by them silently, and then took off running.
