21: Supplies are gradually arriving.
Si Nan didn't hold back, kicking out and knocking the Old Woman over. But she was still a moment too slow; the pocket of her down jacket was ripped off with a "shredding" sound by the Old Woman, and the duck down inside immediately flew out.
It flew onto the faces of the two Police Officers who had just entered. “You’re getting physical now? Nobody move! All relevant parties, come talk at the Station.”
Just like that, Si Nan was taken along. The Old Woman was still restless on the way, so to prevent a bloody incident inside the car, Si Nan was arranged to sit in the front passenger seat.
All the way, Wang Meilan shielded her daughter Cui Qingqing with her body, vigorously feigning poverty in front of the two Police Officers, and exaggerating how Si Nan had pressured her, while completely omitting what she herself had done.
“Idiot!” Si Nan cursed as she got out of the car, then smilingly told Wang Meilan, “Didn't you know the Property Management office has surveillance cameras? Hahaha~”
Sitting in the front, she had heard the notification sound from Manager Xue's wechat. The ignorant Wang Meilan was still chattering incessantly. She had been holding back her laughter the whole way, and now she laughed heartily.
Cui Qingqing tried to find an opportunity to persuade her mother to face reality, but her mother was a stubborn mule who wouldn't listen, instead desperately trying to gain attention in front of the Police Officers.
She was now dying of regret, regretting that she shouldn't have helped her mother harbor greed. Now look, they had ended up at the Police Station. If her husband found out, he might divorce her.
Even the friend who helped her recover Si Nan's mother's phone number would come looking for trouble. Her mother was truly—incapable of success but adept at failure, a genuine country bumpkin from the countryside.
Cui Qingqing was furious. When getting out of the car, she tried her best to cover her face with the hood of her down jacket, preventing passersby from seeing her face.
Sitting in the solemn Interrogation Room, the arrogant Wang Meilan no longer had her previous bravado. As an Old Woman from the countryside, she had never seen such a scene and was so terrified that she confessed everything.
Although Cui Qingqing was an accomplice, she was certainly not the mastermind. She could leave after paying the fine soon. When Wang Meilan heard she might go to jail, her heart gave a “gasp,” she suffered a heart attack, immediately fainted, and was rushed to the hospital.
Walking out of the Police Station, Manager Xue relayed the company's decision: “We will definitely deal with the employee who handled the handover ten years ago and investigate whether there are any other shady dealings involved.
Secondly, besides the 20,000 yuan cash equivalent that the Property Owner Wang Meilan must compensate you, our company will compensate you with double the oil and rice for these past ten years. We will send it to your home once we return.
In addition—”
Manager Xue hesitated to speak.
Si Nan smiled, “Manager Xue, just say what you need to say.”
Manager Xue looked left and right to confirm they were alone, then leaned closer to Miss Si and whispered, “Miss Si, is something major about to happen? I noticed your house renovations are unusual, and you've been receiving successive deliveries of food-related packages.”
Si Nan looked at Manager Xue's face with a smile. She had to admit that Manager Xue was quite remarkable; not only did he not suspect her of being abnormal, but he had actually grasped at a life-saving straw.
Seeing that he helped her secure so much oil and rice, she decided to be a good person and give him a hint. Whether he understood it was up to him.
“Hahaha, Manager Xue, you're humorous. *Cough, cough*. I also heard it from a strange old man. He said this winter would be very difficult, and the temperature would drop suddenly and abnormally.
I noticed the flu is widespread recently, and I'm afraid it might develop into some terrible infectious disease, so I figured it couldn't hurt to buy and hoard more things. Mm-hmm, that's all.”
She didn't say it explicitly, afraid of being arrested as a lunatic—they were still right outside the Police Station.
Manager Xue stared directly into Si Nan's smiling eyes, his mind churning—Impossible!
If it were just a simple flu, this Property Owner, whose mind was so clear, wouldn't be making such huge moves—frenzied shopping and heavily renovating her small villa. Her courtyard wall probably couldn't even be broken by a small car.
He had seen the Property Owner Group; her courtyard wall was a veritable Copper Wall and Iron Fortress. Moreover, the renovation company's vehicle bore the name of a Top Security Renovation Company. Something big was definitely going to happen soon.
She also needed to prepare immediately for a rainy day.
Suddenly, Manager Xue bowed to Si Nan, “Thank you.”
He didn't say another word. They hailed a taxi and returned to the Residential Area together.
Delayed by all this, it was already noon. Si Nan saw that the time to receive supplies was approaching, so she returned home to eat.
Just as she finished setting out her meal, the courtyard gate's doorbell rang. Through the Video Phone, she saw it was Manager Xue, so she pressed the gate switch.
Manager Xue drove in on a Small Sightseeing Cart, carrying the ten years' worth of oil and rice compensated to Si Nan. But when Manager Xue saw the courtyard, he was instantly astonished, “Your courtyard—it's extraordinarily beautiful.”
It was more than beautiful; it was incredibly high-class, something he had never seen before.
“It's alright. Just unload the items by the entrance. I'll see where to put them later.” Si Nan pointed to the ground at her feet. She certainly wouldn't let Manager Xue enter the Main House.
“Alright, it's noon, so I won't disturb your meal.” Manager Xue was an efficient person. He quickly unloaded the items one by one and immediately drove away.
After the courtyard gate closed, Si Nan waved her hand and collected the oil and rice scattered on the ground into her space. This added another batch of supplies. Rationing these things could keep one person alive for a year in the Apocalypse.
She didn't want to waste another second, so she immediately called all the Merchants and asked those who were ready to deliver the goods right away.
An hour later, when she arrived at the Warehouse, several businesses were already lined up waiting for her, and the Convoy had blocked the intersection.
Watching boxes of her favorite fresh fruits being moved into the Warehouse, Si Nan sat aside, smiling. Supplies were gradually falling into place. She wouldn't even need this Warehouse anymore; she wouldn't be afraid even if Zombies broke out now.
Just as she was rejoicing, her head was suddenly lightly struck. “What was that?”
She looked up. The gloomy sky had suddenly begun raining transparent beads. She reached out and caught one: “Hail!”
The unloaders were also greatly shocked. “Quick, quick, quick! It's hailing! Hurry up and unload the goods and rush back. If we wait too long, the ground will be covered in Ice Beads and it'll be hard to drive.”
“Yes, Boss.” The others suddenly gained Primordial Power, swarming to move the boxes into the Warehouse.
“Let's go.” The empty vehicles, having finished unloading, stepped on the gas and sped away.
Si Nan frowned. This weather was strange. It hadn't hailed in her previous life. This would accelerate the spread of the flu. It also affected her shopping spree. It seemed she couldn't go far today, so she would just shop near the Residential Area. She hadn't developed this area yet, anyway.
“Alright, Miss Si.” All the goods were soon unloaded.
“Thank you for your hard work.” Si Nan finally witnessed how strong men who activated the Primordial Power could be. As soon as the Warehouse door was closed, all the goods vanished in the blink of an eye, and the Warehouse was empty again.
Si Nan walked out of the Warehouse and drove to the largest nearby Supermarket, consecutively sweeping up goods, going back and forth six times. Then it was the next store. The car windows were being hit by hail with a crackling sound, like frying beans.
Si Nan took a closer look. The hailstones were larger and denser than before.
