63: Mutual slaughter

So that was what happened; he had been tricked. "Well, well, so you two turtle Grandsons have been faking it all along. Let's see how you'll take down Si Nan without me."

Gao Ming immediately chimed in with a smile, "You don't need to worry about that. No one here knows Si Nan better than I do. No matter how sturdy she's built that villa, she's still just a woman."

“Once we arrive, we'll quietly move in next door. Old Xu and I will monitor her day and night. The moment she steps out of that courtyard will be the day she dies.”

“Besides, Si Nan is a restless woman; she won't be content staying trapped in a courtyard for long. Old Xu and I will be able to take her villa very soon.”

In short, Gao Ming was brimming with a mysterious confidence. Having broken through the zombie encirclement, he was now incredibly self-assured; Si Nan wasn't nearly as terrifying as zombies.

In reality, Si Nan was far more terrifying than zombies. He no longer understood the current Si Nan and was still dreaming, believing that the path he had struggled so hard to travel was a road to glory, with visible happiness and an emperor's life with a Beauty in his arms ahead.

Little did he know that if he hadn't come, he might have lived a bit longer in his rental house. Coming here was simply seeking death.

“Bang!” Ignoring his injured arm, Xu Da suddenly smashed the iron plate, startling the two. “You ungrateful bastards won't come to a good end either. I'll watch you even if I'm dead.”

For safety's sake, no observation holes had been left when welding this iron plate, so Xu Da couldn't see or touch Gao Ming and Xu Songquan at all. Otherwise, he would have attacked long ago.

At first, there were rustling sounds from behind, likely Xu Da bandaging his arm, but soon there was no more movement. A few minutes later, he started kicking and thrashing about like a madman.

Gao Ming and Xu Songquan ignored him. With the thick iron plate between them, they figured Xu Da couldn't do anything anyway.

Meanwhile, the car drove smoothly along the way (since all the cars on the road had been collected by Si Nan into her space to clear an escape route for herself, how could it not be smooth?). They just happened to reach the end of the bridge and began to descend.

To their horror, what greeted them was a swarm of zombies blocking the end of the bridge.

“Floor it! Charge!” Gao Ming and Xu Songquan shouted in unison as they looked at the zombie crowd ahead.

Fully focused, they didn't notice a pitch-black zombie hand reaching out further and further from the gap under the iron plate beneath the seats, slowly extending toward their ankles.

It wasn't until Gao Ming's ankle was suddenly grabbed that he reacted. “Oh no, your uncle has turned into a zombie! Quick, give me the Kitchen knife!”

Gao Ming shouted at Xu Songquan.

“What?” Xu Songquan, who was already struggling to drive and avoid zombies, slammed on the brakes with a screech. The momentum of the braking didn't shake off the zombie Xu Da; instead, the fingers clutching Gao Ming's ankle tightened.

“Ah, it hurts!” Gao Ming cried out, took the Kitchen knife from Xu Songquan's hand, and with a crack, chopped off Xu Da's hand. He quickly pulled off his shoe and sock to check his ankle. Fortunately, he was wearing thick cotton socks; his ankle was only bruised and painful, but the skin wasn't broken.

“Thank goodness, thank goodness.” Gao Ming punched the back of the seat hard, forcing himself to calm down.

Xu Songquan also let out a long sigh of relief. “Scared me to death.”

Gao Ming was sitting right next to him. If Gao Ming had mutated, he certainly wouldn't have survived either.

“Roar!” Just then, zombie Xu Da's other hand reached through the side gap and grabbed Xu Songquan's neck.

“Gao Ming?” Xu Songquan's face turned deathly pale instantly. He pried at Xu Da's fingers with both hands to keep them from breaking his skin, screaming for Gao Ming in terror.

“What? Ah, crack!” Gao Ming's reaction was also very fast. He picked up the Kitchen knife and chopped off Xu Da's arm. The two of them struggled to pry the severed hand off.

With a trembling voice, Xu Songquan asked Gao Ming, “Quick, check if the skin on my neck is broken!”

Gao Ming was even more scared than he was. He pulled at Xu Songquan's neck, inspecting it so closely he almost kissed it. “It's fine, it's fine. Not broken, not broken. You scared the shit out of me.”

“Bang!” Just as they breathed a sigh of relief, the iron plate behind them was frantically smashed again. “His hands are gone, what is he hitting it with?”

Another issue Gao Ming was concerned about was, “This car is no longer safe. Quick, block the gaps around us. We have to get to Si Nan's villa immediately.”

“I'll drive, you block the gaps.” The two divided the work, and the car started up again, ramming through the zombie swarm and breaking out.

“Roar!” Zombie Xu Da let out the roar of a trapped beast, attacking the iron plate more and more frantically. The iron plate, seven or eight centimeters thick, was being dented by his blows.

Gao Ming was terrified. “Hurry! Your uncle has gone mad; his strength is too great. The iron plate won't hold much longer!”

“This is already full speed! It's the zombie swarms on the road that are slowing us down. We're almost there; the navigation shows two more minutes. Hold on!”

“Bang, bang, bang!” Another attack came. Gao Ming's back throbbed with pain from the force of the impact. He quickly stuffed all the extra cotton coats behind him as padding.

Thus, the car wobbled its way toward the Seaside Luxury Villa.

Finally, after a turn, they saw the impressively large villa complex. Rows of beautiful small villas and high-rise buildings stood tall; every single one looked so beautiful, and they wanted every single one.

But when their gaze shifted downward, Xu Songquan immediately turned the steering wheel, veering away from the Seaside Luxury Villa and onto another road. They were speechless with terror at the sight of the dense, overlapping layers of zombies surrounding the entire perimeter of the Seaside Luxury Villa.

If they had seen over a hundred thousand zombies on their way here, then the number surrounding the Seaside Luxury Villa was about the same. “How can there be so many zombies?”

“What's strange is that the walls of the Seaside Luxury Villa have been raised. It's obvious they can't get in, so why are they all swarming there? Every single one of them wants to get inside.”

Neither of them could figure it out, but they had no time to think about it now. They had a fresh zombie right behind them.

There were scattered zombies outside the car as well. If they didn't find a way to escape before the remaining fuel ran out, it would be the end of them.

“Hurry and call Huang Jianli! Ask him which building he's in. We have to find a way to get close; we must enter the residential area as soon as possible,” Xu Songquan said anxiously to Gao Ming.

Indeed, truth is stranger than fiction. Huang Jianli and Gao Ming actually worked at the same company, just in different departments. They didn't know each other personally, but both were in the company's large group chat.

If Huang Jianli hadn't posted that update about Si Nan, Gao Ming wouldn't have thought of risking his life to find her, and the two wouldn't have hooked up.

Huang Jianli provided information about Si Nan, while Gao Ming and Xu Songquan found ways to take her down. Their goal was Si Nan's house and supplies; they were simply using each other.

Gao Ming showed his phone to Xu Songquan. “I contacted him ten minutes ago, but for some reason, he hasn't replied.”

For what reason?
