144: Long-lost old friend
The two remaining young women on the ground waiting to climb went mad. Fearing they would be pounced on and killed by the Zombie Beasts if the people above climbed too slowly, they yanked the person above them down and began to climb themselves.
"Ah! What are you doing?"
"Help—!"
Everything fell into chaos in an instant. The two women caused the entire helicopter to sway, and a little girl who was halfway up lost her grip and fell from the air.
"Ah, Linlin! My daughter!"
"Hmph, you're looking for death!"
The Military Knife in Luo Sen's hand shot out instantly, killing the Zombie Cat. He then kicked the bitten woman into the zombie horde and ran like the wind to catch the little girl.
Si Nan pulled out her gun and fired two shots, "Bang, bang," killing the other selfish woman.
"Climb, quickly." Luo Sen placed the little girl back on the cable, letting her continue her ascent.
"Th—thank you, Uncle." The little girl was trembling; after what had just happened, she was too terrified to climb.
With no other choice, Luo Sen held her with one arm and reached the cabin door in a flash. He tucked the girl inside, then grabbed both sides of the cable and slid straight back down. This scene stunned everyone on the helicopter: "A martial arts master! His skills are incredible!"
Once all the survivors had climbed up, it was finally the turn of the Captain and his three men. However, seeing their delicious prey about to escape, the zombies and Zombie Beasts went wild. "Roar—!"
They all roared and lunged to bite the Captain and his men.
"You three, get up there. I'll cover the rear. That's an order." The Captain was selfless, giving the chance of survival to his subordinates. Having run out of bullets, he drew his Military Knife and held his military shovel firmly in his other hand, guarding the cable to buy time for his three subordinates to climb.
"Hurry! There's no time! There are too many zombies!" the people on the helicopter shouted anxiously. They fired their machine guns desperately to kill the zombies, but there were just too many.
"Alright, Captain, you have to be quick." Two of the subordinates climbed up extremely fast while the third covered the rear. Just as the last one reached the halfway point, a Zombie Dog grabbed his ankle.
"Bang!" Si Nan was quick to react and took out the Zombie Dog, then shouted to the Captain, "Your turn."
"You guys go first," the Captain refused.
Si Nan shook her head. "We aren't leaving. We'll cover you."
She had originally planned to take the helicopter for herself and didn't care about the lives of others, but there were still three children involved.
"Fine." Hearing this, the Captain finished off the zombies nearby and ran toward the cable. But it was too late; three Zombie Beasts were already clinging to the bottom of the cable, cleverly climbing up. Other Zombie Beasts were also using the factory trucks and other high objects to leap toward the helicopter.
It was too dangerous. If even one managed to jump on, they would all be wiped out.
"07, I'm sorry." The person on the helicopter had no choice but to cut the cable and fly away.
"No! Save our Captain! Our Captain hasn't come up yet!" the three subordinates screamed heart-wrenchingly. This was their first time being sent out on a mission, and more than half of their comrades were dead. With so many zombies below and more gathering, how could the Captain survive if he was left behind?
"Captain?" The three of them wept.
However, the Captain had no time to respond to them because the zombies and Zombie Beasts had completely surrounded them. The helicopter had dwindled into a small dot in the distance.
The Captain was actually quite humorous. He stood back-to-back with Luo Sen and Si Nan, forming a triangle as they killed the zombies. "I'm already satisfied. Actually, from the moment I was sent out, I didn't expect to return alive. Being able to save over a dozen people is already plenty."
"But you two are different. I'll hold them off for you; you two should hurry and retreat back into the building."
"No need. All of you, get lost!" Luo Sen said coldly. There were too many zombies and Zombie Beasts around, so he had to release his Supernatural Ability. A wave of power rippled out, instantly obliterating a circle of zombies and Zombie Beasts. Severed limbs and shredded meat flew through the air, falling bloodily to the ground in a disgusting display.
All the zombies were scared away by this familiar power. Only the unintelligent Zombie Beasts were still foolishly rushing forward to attack them.
"Die!" Luo Sen said the word softly and released his Supernatural Ability again. All the Zombie Beasts were killed instantly.
"This...? Who are you? What was that power just now? I've seen a few people among us who awakened Supernatural Abilities, but none of them can compare to your power."
The Captain backed away as if he had seen a ghost, looking at Luo Sen in shock.
Si Nan said with a smile, "As you can see, it's a new power gained when the world changed. I call it a Supernatural Ability."
She smiled and controlled a knife on the ground to show the Captain. "It's like this—Telekinesis. No need to be shocked. The Supernatural Ability I awakened is just average, not as powerful as Luo Sen's."
The Captain: "..."
Was she actually looking down on it?
Such a badass skill was something he could only dream of awakening. Unfortunately... she made it sound like it was nothing. Could she not be so infuriating? It was enough to kill a man!
Seeing him "stunned," Si Nan continued to coax him. "Since you've been abandoned and they all think you're dead, why not work for me from now on?"
"What? Work for you? Doing what?" The Captain's mouth twitched as he pulled his shocked gaze away from the flying knife and looked at Si Nan. "You aren't going to make me your lackey at my age, are you?"
Si Nan looked at the man's face again. "How old are you? You look quite young."
She really couldn't tell that the man in front of her was "at a grand old age."
The Captain didn't hide it from her either. "I'm 39. But let's not talk about that. First, tell me your name. For some reason, the first time I saw you, I thought you looked a bit familiar and felt a sense of kinship."
"Si Nan."
The Captain's eyes suddenly widened with excitement. He took a large stride toward Si Nan, looking her up and down from every angle. "Your name is Si Nan? It couldn't really be such a coincidence, could it? What is your relationship to the late Colonel Si Mingze?"
"He's my father. Why? Did you know him?" Si Nan also became slightly excited; there was clearly a story here.
The Captain suddenly burst into laughter. "Hahaha! This really is a case of a family not recognizing their own! Twenty years ago, I was your father's most capable subordinate. I'm your Uncle Ji Yan! I even held you when you were a baby."
"..."
Si Nan couldn't believe it either. "What? You're my Uncle Ji Yan? Did you eat preservatives? You've maintained yourself so well; you look so young."
Ji Yan grabbed Si Nan's arm and spun her around. "Hahaha! You've grown up, little girl, and you've become even more beautiful. Your mouth is still just like your father's—honest."
"Isn't your uncle just being filial? I followed the old couple's call for early love, early marriage, and early Child-rearing. I've been kept young by the nourishment of love."
Si Nan was also made to laugh by Ji Yan's dorkiness. "Hahaha! Uncle Ji, you're still as humorous as you were when you were young. So, what about you now?"
