313: Devil and Fox

The territory of the Khakas was not large.

In fact, all its cities combined were not as big as Chang'an alone.

Its so-called capital was merely a simple city, roughly the size of an ordinary county, covering about thirty or forty square kilometers.

Including the surrounding towns, villages, and the open wilderness used for grazing, it totaled about a hundred square kilometers or so.

As for the inner city that the bearded blacksmith mentioned earlier, it was actually the core area of the capital—a massive city composed entirely of steel.

"...Divine Official, look, I have already enclosed the entire city with steel, and at the same time, I have had them working overtime to build those things you mentioned. Can our city really move, just as you said?"

The gorgeously dressed King held a golden cup, watching the laborers bustling about with clanging sounds outside the window, feeling both nervous and excited.

Beside him, a middle-aged man wearing a white robe embroidered with golden patterns smiled as he watched him.

After hearing him finish, he couldn't help but laugh: "Your Majesty, there is no need to worry. Since Heaven has already given you clear instructions, you will not go wrong as long as you follow them."

"My role as a Divine Official is, after all, merely to act as an envoy conveying the instructions of Heaven; I cannot influence the decisions of the gods!"

"But I believe that since the gods have promised to protect the Khakas and make it the only great power in this world, they will certainly not give up halfway."

"By then, even if it were as powerful as the Eastern Great Tang, it would not be able to stop your march toward unifying the world..."

Upon hearing this, the King laughed heartily: "The Divine Official truly has a way with words... Haha, then I shall wait and see!"

"Hehe, I do not just have a way with words; I am merely describing a fact..."

"Rest assured, once all the necessary parts are completed, I will present you with a Doomsday Fortress that can move."

"Wherever this Doomsday Fortress goes, that place shall be the territory of the Khakas!"

The Divine Official looked at the King with confidence, while the King gazed at the Divine Official with great relief.

The two exchanged ambiguous looks, as if there were some Breakthrough of worldly emotions.

"Reporting to Divine Official, Xiao Huzi, wearing strange clothes, claims to be an old acquaintance of yours and requests an audience..."

Suddenly, a soldier ran in, kowtowed to the Divine Official, and said, "He also said... if you do not see him, you will definitely... definitely regret it!"

Upon hearing this, the Divine Official was stunned for a moment, then his expression darkened.

He nodded and said: "Understood. Take him to my reception room; I will be there shortly!"

The soldier left as ordered, but the King asked curiously: "What is this? Does the Divine Official actually have an old acquaintance here?"

"Haha, I am a rather casual person, and since becoming the attendant Divine Official for Your Majesty, I have had no end of poor relatives and friends coming to find me..."

"Your Majesty, please wait a moment, I will be right back. Anyone who comes all this way to find me must have encountered a problem that is difficult to solve!"

The Divine Official bowed to the King, then followed the soldier out the door.

Once he reached a corner where no one could see him, he suddenly exerted force with his feet, moving at a speed invisible to the naked eye, and arrived at his so-called reception room in the blink of an eye.

Looking at that familiar back, the Divine Official felt a jolt in his heart.

He then waved his hand to dismiss everyone else before slowly walking inside.

"Due to the backwardness of productivity, the knowledge described in the books of this world is truly difficult to look at... Rommel, my beloved general, don't you agree!"

Xiao Huzi, who had been flipping through a book with his back to the Divine Official, slowly put down the heavy book in his hand, turned to look at the Divine Official, and laughed.

"I apologize for the display!"

The Divine Official narrowed his eyes slightly. "Why do you have time to come find me? Aren't you traveling the world in search of the wealth of this realm? You can just leave the matters here to me!"

"Enough. As the Desert Fox, can't you guess why I have come?"

Xiao Huzi laughed, his smile bright, showing no signs that he had come to hold anyone accountable.

The Divine Official said in a deep voice: "Everything I have done has been highly effective."

"You said you would let me handle things on my own and build this city into the strongest Doomsday Fortress!"

"But I never said you could weaken my power within the army!"

Xiao Huzi laughed. "Don't forget, your power, your authority—from the previous life to the present—were all given to you by me."

"It was also I who gave you the opportunity to showcase your talents!"

"And yet, this is how you repay me? By erasing my existence from the army?"

"General Rommel, you made significant command errors in the previous life, and in this life, you actually want to seize power directly?"

"Hehe, you have truly disappointed me!"

"Adolf, do not push your luck!"

Rommel said with a grim face, "In the previous life, if it hadn't been for your faulty decisions, how would I have been defeated?"

"Ultimately, it was you, the commander, who was incompetent."

"Do not impose all the blame on me!"

"Furthermore, this nation was built through my painstaking efforts."

"You merely suggested this to our master."

"You... are no longer my superior, so do not speak to me in such a tone!"

"Oh, that is truly impressive!"

Adolf curled his lips and suddenly laughed.

"In the Great Tang, they often say a phrase: 'pick up the bowl to eat, put down the bowl to curse the mother.' Do you know what that means?"

"Hmm, looking at your confused expression, you don't."

"It means that some people in this world are ungrateful."

"Have you forgotten who gave you all your skills, this power to deceive gods and ghosts?"

"After you used the power I gave you to establish your own faction, you actually kicked me, the one who bestowed this power upon you, to the curb?"

"I must say, you really have 'ideas.' It shows that your ambition has never ceased since the previous life!"

Rommel shouted sternly: "Do not speak so sanctimoniously."

"The so-called power you gave me was just to make me work for you."

"Ultimately, your nature remains as selfish as ever!"

"Now that I have my own power, I can completely break free from your control."

"If you are sensible, leave now, and I will still consider you a friend."

"Otherwise, you shall sleep here forever!"

Hum!

A bright blue light suddenly flashed on Rommel's hand, as if an electric arc had passed through it.

He also began to gather strength under his feet, seemingly having no intention of giving the person before him a chance to respond.

Adolf put his hands in his pockets, looked at Rommel, and said: "If you stop now, I can still decide to spare you..."

"Hahaha... still threatening me? You don't even have the most basic combat power now; what right do you have to talk about sparing me?"

"Hmph, since you have no self-awareness, let me put an end to your failed life!"

Swish!

Rommel's true form turned into a bolt of lightning, appearing instantly before Adolf.

His right hand, fingers crackling with blue thunder, struck fiercely toward his heart.

Adolf couldn't help but laugh.

At the very moment that hand touched his body, a blood-red divine light suddenly burst from his eyes.

Rommel's body shuddered violently, and then he froze in his original posture, unable to move a muscle!

"Hehe, whose life is more of a failure? It's actually obvious, isn't it?"

Adolf said to Rommel, "You simply do not know what power truly is!"
