522: Who is Poxun?
In Huichang Temple, the sound of drums rang out. The temple gates closed as the monks finished their evening lessons and returned to their own meditation rooms to rest.
In the abbot's room, Monk Yiyuan was sitting cross-legged on a prayer mat, his eyes slightly narrowed.
Hurried footsteps approached, and the door to the meditation room suddenly opened. Monk Yixiao, the head of the Discipline Hall, wearing a kasaya, walked in with a smile and said to Yiyuan:
"Senior Brother Abbot, it is just as you said. We welcome guests with kindness and open our doors wide, and indeed, our followers have increased many times over compared to the past... Today, quite a few impoverished people came seeking medical treatment. I administered talisman water to them, and after saving the person, their relatives actually kowtowed and converted to us right then and there!"
"Heh heh, in the beginning, we only thought about using this Buddhist skin to frame others; we never imagined there was such a path to take. Heh heh, this truly is when our good days have arrived. It is all thanks to that person's guidance; otherwise, how could I have thought of such a good idea!"
Monk Yiyuan smiled and asked, "How many followers do we have recorded in our register now?"
"Two thousand four hundred and sixteen. Today, six people wanted to convert, but because they couldn't come up with enough silver, they were turned away by the guest-reception monk!"
Monk Yixiao frowned and said, "That guy still can't change that foul temper from... the other realm. When I have some free time, I must teach this ignorant fellow a lesson!"
"Hmm, that guy is a troublemaker and has always been dissatisfied with me. If you have time, send him back to the other realm! Our Foundation is not yet stable, so we still need to keep a low profile... Cancel the entrance fee. As long as someone is willing to convert, we will accept them!"
Monk Yiyuan said, "Although the number of our followers is still growing, the speed is still a bit slow... It is also strange. Those residents in Chang'an City would rather believe in some unknown True Buddha than come here to us for treatment to gain actual benefits. It is truly strange!"
Monk Yixiao said in a deep voice, "I have already inquired. That Guangdu Xin Buddha is not some unknown True Buddha. He has saved Chang'an City from danger several times and is a formidable character. He is accomplished in both literature and martial arts, and his Buddha Dharma is profound. We must be careful when facing him!"
"Heh heh, what is there to fear? Back then, even the Tathagata could not trap us, let alone a guy I've never even heard of. Could his magic power be stronger than the Buddha's?"
Monk Yiyuan said disdainfully, "Tomorrow, I will sneak into Chang'an and see exactly what kind of ability he has!"
"Heh heh, don't bother going to Chang'an City. If you want to see him, you can see him right now!"
Monk Yiyuan and Monk Yixiao both changed expressions. Immediately after, they swirled out like a whirlwind, only to see four people standing in the courtyard: a monk, a nun, plus a Daoist and a Pig Head.
Among the four, except for the Daoist whose Aura was a notch weaker, the remaining three were all not to be trifled with. The Qi on them was like that of the powerful figures from the Western Buddhist Realm; in terms of strength, they were definitely no worse than them.
"Who are you people, daring to run wild in my Huichang Temple? You must really be tired of living!" Monk Yixiao said angrily.
"Heh heh, who are we? Hmm, let me introduce you... This is Guanshiyin Bodhisattva, this is the Pure Altar Messenger, and this is the Shu Mountain Sect Head. As for me, I am that so-called unknown True Buddha you were just talking about..."
Tang Ku narrowed his eyes and said, "Guangdu Xin Buddha, Tang Sanzang!"
Monk Yiyuan's heart sank, and he immediately said, "Why have you come here? We are all branches of the Buddhist sect; why come here to disturb us?"
"Heh heh, with Devil Heads like you, do you even deserve to be called the Buddhist sect?"
Tang Ku curled his lip and said disdainfully, "You are called Monk Yiyuan, right... Hmm, the subordinates of the Devil King Poxun really have no discernment at all!"
Monk Yiyuan was suddenly shocked: "How do you know about the Devil King Poxun? Wait... wait a minute, Guanyin... Tang Sanzang? Are you the scripture seeker that the Tathagata mentioned? You are... you are Golden Cicada?"
"You actually know me? Uh, wait, you said the Tathagata mentioned... I understand..."
Tang Ku said in a deep voice, "So you are not some subordinate of Poxun; you are Poxun!"
Monk Yiyuan suddenly laughed loudly: "So what if I am? What can you do to me? Hmph, we mind our own business. You manage your Chang'an, and I recruit my followers; we have nothing to do with each other. The affairs of this world are never greater than the word 'reason'. I have not provoked you, nor have I done anything shameful, yet you have come to our door to fight. This is truly unreasonable! If you do not give a reason today, then all of you can just stay here!"
Tang Ku held his breath for a long time, then suddenly sneered, "Is this guy insane?"
Old Pig said disdainfully, "Not necessarily insane, maybe just brain-dead!"
Guanyin shook her head and said, "You two are speaking a bit too excessively. This Devil King Poxun obviously does not know that we came to find him after having gathered a lot of evidence!"
Yiyuan's mouth twitched, but then he heard Tang Ku say coldly, "Monk Yiyuan, right... Do you remember a monk who came to your temple wanting to stay, named Bianji?"
Monk Yiyuan was stunned, and immediately could not help but think of the righteous monk from three days ago. He couldn't help but tremble in his heart and said sternly, "Was that someone you sent to spy on our movements? Was that your subordinate?"
"I did not send anyone to spy on you, because at that time, I did not suspect you of anything!"
Tang Ku sneered, "That so-called subordinate you mentioned is my disciple. So tell me, why would I come looking for you!"
"Heh heh, since it has already been exposed, there is nothing to be done!"
Monk Yiyuan sneered, "That's right, that guy tried to expose our plan, so we had no choice but to plant the most primitive Gu on him... Heh heh, but so what? You have countless followers and tens of thousands of disciples; what does it matter if one dies? To seek revenge for one disciple and offend a strong enemy, I really don't know what you are thinking!"
As he was speaking, countless guys wearing monk robes in the temple had already risen and surrounded Tang Ku and the others. Their eyes were glowing with red light, staring covetously at Tang Ku and the others, as if they could tear them alive at any moment.
Tang Ku and the four others were silent for a moment. From Guanyin to Pigsy, and then to Xuanji Zi, they instantly moved far away from Tang Ku.
That tangible Killing Intent made them very uncomfortable!
"Heh heh..."
In the time it took to say two words, Tang Ku had already disappeared from where he was standing. When he reappeared, Monk Yiyuan's head was already on the ground, having been fiercely smashed into the brick and stone!
