228: My second uncle is the law.

Tony's chest heaved with anger as he shouted at Bald Second Uncle in a fit of rage and anxiety, "You! You're cuffing us? Why aren't you cuffing them?"

He looked toward the group consisting of the bald man and Shoulder Dragon.

"They're the ones who are criminals! They committed extortion and almost killed us!"

the bald man squinted at Tony like he was an idiot, letting out a sneer, too lazy to even speak.

Bald Second Uncle kept a straight face, once again using his "justice" rhetoric in a booming voice.

"They are the victims! Victims who were beaten and injured by you! Look at the injuries on their bodies!"

He pointed at the bald man's swollen face and Shoulder Dragon's limping leg.

"We police handle cases based on evidence! Now, the evidence shows that you were the ones who started the fight and they are the ones injured! If we don't cuff you, who should we cuff? It's only natural to cuff perpetrators like you!"

"Victims?" Tony's voice turned shrill, his whole body trembling with rage. "They almost drowned us in the water! They extorted us! They're the criminals! You... you're turning black into white! Is there no law? Is there no justice?"

Looking at Tony's exasperated state, the bald man felt especially vindicated.

He first glanced at his second uncle's police uniform, then turned back, scanning Lei Jun's group with an extremely disdainful gaze. His meaning was more than clear.

The law? Justice?

Here, my second uncle is the law!

Whatever he says is the law!

You want to mess with me?

You're still a bit too green!

As Lei Jun, Qin Yu, Lin Xiaoya, and Zhao Ya watched this scene, the frustration in their hearts felt like it was about to explode!

Knowing full well the other party was evil and abusing their power, yet being locked in handcuffs and suppressed under the name of "law enforcement"—this feeling of being unable to reason or seek justice for their grievances was even more infuriating and debilitating than having their masks ripped off underwater!

Tony wanted to argue further, but Qin Yu stopped him with a look.

Although Qin Yu was also livid, he knew that saying anything to this obviously biased Deputy Director was useless and would only lead to further humiliation.

He whispered, "Tony, calm down. Don't say anything more. You can't reason with people like this."

Tony stomped his foot hard and turned his head away in frustration, his eyes welling up.

His life had been smooth sailing; he was respected for his craft and aesthetic sense. When had he ever suffered such humiliation?

In the end, Lei Jun, Lei Ying, Lei Yue, and Zhao Ya, along with Qin Yu, Lin Xiaoya, Tony, Su Qing, and Su Ya, were all handcuffed. Under the complicated gazes of the onlookers, they were shoved into police cars.

the bald man, Shoulder Dragon, and their group, despite their bruised and swollen faces, swaggered into another vehicle. Before getting in, they even winked and smirked triumphantly at Lei Jun and the others.

The police cars roared as they drove toward the Police Station.

The atmosphere inside the car was stifling.

Su Qing leaned tightly against her sister, Su Ya. With their hands cuffed behind their backs, they could only press their shoulders together.

Su Qing's heart was filled with fear and lingering dread. She thought about the near-death experience underwater just now, and then about being handcuffed by the police, with the other party being a Deputy Director... She didn't dare imagine what would happen next.

Su Ya sobbed softly, her body trembling uncontrollably.

Lin Xiaoya bit her lip. Although she was also afraid, she felt more anger and indignation.

She was the daughter of the Governor of Longcheng. When had she ever been subjected to such treatment?

Tony's face was ashen, and he was muttering something under his breath, cursing the bald man's gang.

Zhao Ya, like Lei Ying and Lei Yue, remained expressionless.

Lei Jun was thinking.

She was assessing the direction the entire incident was heading.

Once they arrived at the station, the other party would surely use every means possible to force them to "confess."

Conventional interrogation, threats, intimidation, and perhaps even some "unconventional" methods.

She wondered where their bottom line was.

She was also weighing the cards in her hand.

Lei Ying's status in Bureau 749 was an ace in the hole.

From the bald man's emboldened attitude to the Deputy Director's blatant bias and the discussions of the onlookers... this was no accident.

This was very likely a criminal gang entrenched in the tourist area, using diving projects as a front for extortion, protected by an umbrella of authority.

Bumping into them today might have been an accident, but it could also be an opportunity to expose this festering wound.

It just depended on how much the Deputy Director dared to poke this sore spot.

Lei Jun opened her eyes, a cold glint flashing in them.

At the Police Station, Bald Second Uncle personally took charge of interrogating Lei Jun and the other main suspects.

He brought Lei Jun, Lei Ying, Lei Yue, and Zhao Ya into an interrogation room, leaving Qin Yu, Lin Xiaoya, and the others to wait in the hallway outside.

The lights in the interrogation room were somewhat blinding, and the door wasn't closed, allowing everyone outside to see clearly.

Bald Second Uncle sat imperiously in the lead interrogator's seat, with a young recorder sitting beside him.

the bald man, Shoulder Dragon, and the others were also outside.

Bald Second Uncle lit a cigarette, took a puff, and squinted at the four women—Lei Jun and the others—who were handcuffed to interrogation chairs.

"Name, age, place of origin, and what are you doing in Sanya?"

He spoke according to procedure, but his tone was very impatient.

Lei Jun answered calmly.

Lei Ying, Lei Yue, and Zhao Ya also answered in turn, their voices devoid of emotion.

"Tell me, why did you assault others in broad daylight at the Lovers Cape diving spot today? Why were you so ruthless?" Bald Second Uncle cut straight to the point.

Lei Jun looked at him: "I've already said it. They were the ones extorting us. They forcibly removed our oxygen masks underwater and threatened our lives to force us to take expensive photos. We acted in self-defense and to stop their criminal behavior."

"Nonsense!" Bald Second Uncle slammed the table.

"Where's the evidence? Who saw them take off your masks? Huh? All I see is that you people beat them up quite badly!"

"The diving spot has a proper business license, and the staff were providing a service. What's wrong with charging a fee for photos? Price variations are just market behavior! If you thought it was too expensive, you didn't have to take them. How could you resort to violence? You even injured them! This is intentional assault!"

He didn't give Lei Jun any chance to explain; or rather, he didn't want to hear an explanation at all.

His nephew and his men had been bullied, so he had to make this an open-and-shut case.

Lei Jun sneered: "As a law enforcement officer, is this how you handle a case? Ignoring the victims' statements, failing to investigate the cause, listening only to one side, and blindly protecting the so-called 'victims.' You're not uncovering the truth; you're manufacturing a miscarriage of justice."

"How dare you!" Bald Second Uncle was once again touched on a sore spot and flew into a rage. "Is it your place to lecture me? Do I need you to teach me how to handle a case? The facts are clear and the evidence is solid! You hit people, and that's the irrefutable proof!"

"I advise you to be honest, admit your mistakes quickly, pay for the victims' medical bills, lost wages, and mental distress, and obtain their forgiveness. Then this matter can be handled leniently."

"If you refuse to admit it and resist to the end, given the severity of your intentional assault, you'll be in for a rough time!"
