63: He should be sentenced to at least fifteen years.

But now, everything was different.

The appearance of the system had completely lifted the heavy burden named survival from Lei Jun's shoulders.

Money was no longer a problem to worry about day and night; she had obtained unprecedented power of choice and freedom.

Her mindset also began to change.

It turned out that when you no longer had to exhaust all your mental energy just to stay alive, the world would present such a different appearance.

She took a deep breath; the slightly cool air carried the fresh scent of unknown plants.

For the first time, she noticed that by the side of this ordinary street, several clusters of light purple flowers were stubbornly peeking out from the cracks in the wall.

Even those noisy, chasing, and playing children appeared exceptionally vivid and lovely in her eyes.

She was no longer a slave driven forward by life, but had become a leisurely onlooker who could stop and walk slowly.

Thus, with a sightseeing mindset, Lei Jun, Lei Ying, and Lei Yue leisurely walked to the entrance of the wet market.

It was bustling and filled with various fresh food smells and noisy voices; she looked at the shoulder-to-shoulder crowds and the dazzling yet slightly messy stalls.

Lei Jun suddenly stopped in her tracks and tapped her head.

"Oh my, what am I doing?"

"I could just go to the supermarket."

"The environment there is comfortable, and I wouldn't have to squeeze through the crowd."

"Forget it, since I'm already here... I'll just browse around."

She curiously eyed the dazzling stalls on both sides, listening to the enthusiastic shouts of the stallholders and the bargaining of the customers.

She learned from others and asked for prices, but her voice felt a bit weak as soon as she spoke.

The stallholder quoted a price, and she hesitated, not knowing how to haggle.

Lei Ying immediately stepped forward and clearly pointed out the small blemishes on the edges of the vegetable leaves.

Lei Yue added the recent market prices for vegetables; with their coordinated efforts, the stallholder actually lowered the price.

Back home, Lei Jun spread the ingredients on the kitchen counter and opened a home-cooking tutorial video on her phone.

The blogger in the video moved skillfully, but in her hands, she was always afraid of cutting her hand with the kitchen knife, and she couldn't control the amount when pouring oil; the moment the oil splattered, she instinctively backed away.

She finally managed to pour the vegetables into the pot, but she didn't grasp the strength needed when stir-frying, causing many vegetables to splash out of the pot.

After nearly an hour of struggling, a plate of stir-fried greens and a plate of tomato and scrambled eggs were finally served.

Lei Jun looked at the less-than-appetizing dishes, feeling a bit apprehensive.

This was her first time cooking personally, and she didn't know how it would taste.

Lei Ying and Lei Yue sat at the dining table, looking at the slightly charred greens and the somewhat lumpy eggs in the plates, smelling a hint of burnt scent.

Lei Ying picked up her chopsticks, took a bite of the greens, and immediately tasted the excessive saltiness, along with an unevenly cooked texture.

However, this was the first time Miss had cooked, and she had put so much effort into it; even if it wasn't tasty, she couldn't let her down.

Lei Yue also took a piece of tomato and scrambled egg; the intertwined sour and salty taste spread in her mouth, but she forced herself not to show any sign of abnormality.

The two looked at each other and said, bracing themselves.

"The taste is quite good."

Lei Jun took a bite herself, and as soon as she chewed twice, she froze.

Too much salt had been added, the greens were still a bit raw, and the eggs in the tomato and scrambled eggs were overcooked.

She put down her chopsticks, feeling very disappointed.

She had clearly followed the video step by step; why was it still so unpalatable?

Seeing Lei Ying and Lei Yue frowning yet still eating slowly, she felt a bit guilty.

She sighed; it seemed that cooking really required proper practice... In the following days, Pet Name always loved to carry cat food to Lei Jun's feet, and sometimes would push it in front of Lei Ying and Lei Yue, then look up and "meow."

Lei Jun initially thought she didn't like this brand of cat food and changed it to a new one, but Pet Name was still like this.

After careful observation, Lei Yue suddenly said thoughtfully, "Miss, I've been watching for a long time. Every time, Pet Name takes a few bites herself and then leaves the rest for us. Do you think... she's sharing her food with us?"

Lei Jun was stunned for a moment.

"That can't be, right?"

"How could a little kitten understand such things?"

But on second thought, Pet Name had been hungry for so long before; logically, she should have eaten the cat food herself first upon seeing it.

Pushing it to them time and again did indeed look like she was letting them eat.

She looked into Pet Name's clear eyes and remembered how she had guarded her mother and siblings by the trash can before; a warm current suddenly surged in her heart.

It turned out this tiny cat was sharing what she considered precious with them.

She couldn't help but pick up Pet Name and gently rub her little head, her heart feeling warm and soft.

"Little silly, we don't need to eat cat food. You eat more yourself and just grow up quickly."

Lei Ying stood aside, watching Pet Name nestle obediently in Lei Jun's arms, her heart also filling with warmth.

Pet Name had experienced so much hardship yet still retained such kindness.

What a good cat.

At night, Lei Jun was preparing to sleep; just as she lay down, she felt a fluffy ball brush onto the bed.

She looked down and saw that Pet Name had actually jumped onto the quilt, curled into a small fur ball, and leaned against her hand.

Lei Jun didn't drive her away; instead, she gently stroked her back.

It was quite nice to have such a tiny life accompanying her.

She felt happy.

Closing her eyes, she felt Pet Name's slight breathing; her heart was incredibly peaceful, and she soon entered dreamland.

In the following days, such warm moments became more and more frequent.

When Lei Jun woke up in the morning, she could always see Pet Name lying by her pillow; when Lei Ying was exercising, Pet Name would squat by the door and watch quietly.

When Lei Yue was processing documents, Pet Name would occasionally jump onto the desk and rub her arm with her little head.

Once, while Lei Jun was taking Pet Name to bask in the sun, Pet Name suddenly jumped onto her lap and gently licked her hand with her tongue.

Lei Jun looked at her wet little tongue and couldn't help but smile, looking down and saying to her, "Why are you so clingy?"

As if she understood, Pet Name gave a "meow" and burrowed further into her arms.

Lei Ying and Lei Yue sat nearby, watching this scene and smiling at each other.

Miss used to be alone, but now with Pet Name, she smiled much more.

This home felt more and more like a home; with Miss, each other, and Pet Name, these days were truly wonderful... In the special care ward of Longcheng First People's Hospital, the atmosphere was oppressive.

Zhang Biao lay on the hospital bed, his limbs wrapped in thick bandages, his expression dark.

This time he had fallen too hard!

He had just finished his statement, and the police clearly informed him that with kidnapping, intentional injury, and illegal possession of a firearm, the combined punishment would be at least fifteen years.

"Just who is this Lei Jun!"

Zhang Biao's mother's tears fell pitter-patter as she said angrily.

"She struck so ruthlessly; it would be one thing to disable your hands and knees with gunshots, but she also had the police hand down such a heavy sentence!"

"Are we just going to accept this as a family?"

Zhang Biao's father slammed the bedside table, his eyes filled with uncontrollable anger and lingering fear.

"What else can we do but accept it!"

"It's all because you spoiled him, letting him be lawless outside, even daring to use a gun for kidnapping."

"Do you know what Director Wang told me?"

"He said Lei Jun's background is so deep that we can't afford to offend her, and told us to shut up quickly and stop thinking about revenge!"
