371: The flames flicker

Su Han tightly gripped Bi Yao's hand. "Bi Yao, no matter what, I won't let you get hurt."

He said.

A tear glinted in Bi Yao's eyes, and she nodded forcefully.

"Su Han, I'll fight with you too."

The Monster seemed to sense Su Han and Bi Yao's presence. It let out a deafening roar, then charged towards them.

Su Han and Bi Yao quickly split up, running in different directions to try and distract the Monster.

The Monster hesitated for a moment, then chose to chase after Su Han.

As Su Han ran, he observed the surroundings, trying to find something he could use.

He noticed a massive stalactite on one side of the cave, which looked very sturdy.

An idea sparked in his mind.

He ran towards the stalactite. When he reached the area beneath it, he suddenly stopped, turned, and faced the Monster.

Seeing Su Han stop, the Monster thought he had given up resisting, so it sped up and pounced towards Su Han.

Just as the Monster was about to reach Su Han, Su Han suddenly dodged to the side, simultaneously extending both hands and pushing the stalactite with all his might.

Under Su Han's push, the stalactite slowly toppled towards the Monster.

The Monster realized the situation was bad and tried to dodge, but it was too late.

The massive stalactite crashed heavily onto the Monster, creating a dull thud.

The Monster let out a cry of pain. It struggled desperately, trying to free itself from the stalactite's restraint.

Su Han and Bi Yao took the opportunity to move to the side. They watched the struggling Monster, their hearts filled with tension.

They didn't know if this Monster could break free from the stalactite's restraint, and if it did, how they would cope.

After a while, the Monster's struggles gradually ceased, and its body no longer moved.

Su Han and Bi Yao cautiously approached the Monster. They found that the Monster had been crushed to death by the stalactite.

They breathed a sigh of relief, and the tension in their hearts dissipated.

However, before they could rejoice, they heard another strange sound coming from the depths of the cave.

The sound was like countless wings flapping, or like some creature whispering.

Su Han and Bi Yao exchanged glances. A bad premonition surged in both their hearts.

The rough texture from pushing the stalactite still lingered on Su Han's fingertips, and the gravel clinging to Bi Yao's hair trembled slightly with her breathing.

Their panting echoed in the dead silent cave, but was gradually swallowed by the strange sounds coming from the depths of the cave.

The sound was like sandpaper wrapped in damp air, grinding against their eardrums repeatedly, and also like countless tiny scales rustling against the cave walls.

"By the sound of it, there are at least a hundred."

Su Han tightened his grip on the short blade at his waist, its surface reflecting his tense jawline.

Bi Yao fumbled in her backpack for a spare torch. Sparks splattered onto the damp ground, emitting a pungent burnt smell.

In the flickering torchlight, she noticed that the cave walls were covered in spiderweb-like cracks, as if carved by some creature's sharp claws.

The two of them moved slowly along the cave wall, the halo of the torch only illuminating the area three steps ahead.

Su Han suddenly raised his hand to stop Bi Yao. By the jumping torchlight, they saw scattered broken bones on the ground ahead.

The bones were a strange bluish-white, some still covered in a translucent film that made a sizzling sound when heated by the torch.

"They are the same kind as the previous Monster."

Bi Yao knelt down. As her fingertip touched a finger bone, the entire bone suddenly turned to dust, emitting a wailing sound like a crying infant as it scattered in the air. (End of Chapter)
