382: Some kind of connection

The Monster King's massive body blocked the exit of the rift, its body covered in dark purple scales.

Each scale shimmered with an eerie glow, its gaping maw revealing two rows of chilling fangs, saliva constantly dripping and corroding deep pits in the ground.

Its huge eyes stared fixedly at Su Han and Bi Yao, a low growl rumbling in its throat, seemingly assessing the two prey before it.

Su Han tightened his grip on the dagger in his hand, the blade glinting coldly in the faint light. He could feel Bi Yao's body trembling slightly behind him, and a surge of protectiveness rose in his heart.

"Don't be afraid, I'm here."

He said in a low voice. Although his voice was steady, sweat had seeped into the hand holding the dagger.

However, unexpectedly, the Monster King did not attack immediately.

It just stood there, letting out roars, seemingly hesitating or waiting for something.

Su Han keenly noticed that the Monster King's gaze occasionally darted towards the mechanical device suspended in the center, a hint of fear seemingly in its eyes.

Bi Yao calmed herself down and peeked out from behind Su Han. The rust on the rusty sword in her arms had completely disappeared.

The dark gold patterns on the sword's body flickered with a mysterious light, flowing as if alive.

"This sword... it seems to have changed."

She said softly, a hint of surprise in her voice.

Su Han tilted his head slightly and glanced at the sword in Bi Yao's hand. "Never mind the sword for now, we need to find a way to figure out the secret of this mechanical device. Maybe it's the key for us to leave this place."

He looked at the central mechanical device with determined eyes. The clicking sound of countless gears meshing seemed to be telling an ancient story.

The two cautiously approached the mechanical device, each step filled with vigilance.

The runes on the twelve stone pillars flickered under the faint light, emitting a mysterious aura.

The shapes of the runes varied, some resembling spread-winged birds, some like coiled giant snakes, and others like twisted vines.

Bi Yao carefully observed the runes, trying to find some clues from them. "These runes are somewhat similar to the ones I saw on the barrier before, but not exactly the same."

She said, frowning. Su Han listened to Bi Yao while keeping a watchful eye on the movements of the surrounding Monsters.

Suddenly, he noticed that the rune on one of the stone pillars seemed to be glowing slightly. Although the light was faint, it was particularly noticeable in this dim space.

"Bi Yao, look at that stone pillar!"

He said, pointing at the stone pillar. Bi Yao looked in the direction Su Han was pointing, a hint of surprise flashing in her eyes.

"This glowing rune looks very much like a certain pattern on the stone coffin!"

She quickly walked to the stone pillar and reached out to touch the rune, but was bounced back by an invisible force just as she was about to touch it, staggering back a few steps.

Su Han quickly stepped forward to support Bi Yao. "Be careful, everything here is full of danger."

He looked at the stone pillar with a solemn expression, thinking about how to decipher the secret of the rune.

Just then, the Monster King suddenly let out an earth-shattering roar, breaking the brief calm.

Its huge claws slammed down on the ground, causing the entire space to shake violently, and countless broken stones fell from overhead. Su Han and Bi Yao were shaken off balance, nearly falling.

"We can't wait any longer, we must find a way to decipher the mechanical device as soon as possible!"

Su Han shouted loudly.

He looked around and suddenly found some small grooves on the ground. The arrangement of these grooves seemed to have some connection with the runes on the stone pillars. (End of this chapter)
