106: Gods

Upon hearing Locke Galahad's words, the puppet seemed to roll its eyes for a split second before its face instantly reverted to its expressionless, wooden state, and it stopped looking at Locke Galahad altogether, turning its gaze elsewhere.

Locke Galahad, sitting opposite it, immediately sensed a hint of speechlessness on its face.

The two of them remained silent for a while.

Locke Galahad was in no rush, partly because he wanted to hold out for a better offer, while the person behind the puppet seemed to be contemplating something.

Just then, Emilia, who had accumulated quite a bit of dissatisfaction with the puppet, seized the opportunity to retaliate. Pouting, she glared at the puppet and demanded in a very bratty tone:

"Hey, you stinky puppet, my master is talking to you! Are you deaf or something?"

Hearing this, Locke Galahad felt a surge of joy, but he kept his expression calm, merely glancing lightly at Emilia. "As expected of my good Star Slave, you truly understand me. Not bad, not bad."

The profound aura that the puppet had been building up for so long instantly deflated after being scolded by Emilia.

Its expression became somewhat helpless, but it didn't scold Emilia, instead shifting its gaze back to Locke Galahad.

"Why are you being so cautious, kid? If I really wanted to kill you, the grass on your grave would already be taller than you know."

"Hmph, just because you say you want to kill me doesn't mean you can." Locke Galahad's heart skipped a beat as he listened to that calm tone; his subconscious told him the other party wasn't joking.

Because the tone the other party was using right now was exactly the same as when he had spoken to Marcus and Victor.

Their gaze was even more indifferent.

Locke Galahad knew that the person opposite him was aware of his strength, and if they could speak with such confidence despite knowing that, there were only two possibilities.

First, the other party was lying and feigning calmness.

Second, the other party's strength far exceeded Sequence 9, so they didn't take handling Locke Galahad seriously at all.

Thinking of this, Locke Galahad glanced at the other party's calm, water-like eyes and felt the latter was more likely.

However, the more he thought about it, the less he understood.

If the other party was stronger than him, what could they possibly need to cooperate with him for?

He couldn't understand it.

That was why he intentionally spoke that way, wanting to probe and see if he could extract some useful information.

Locke Galahad calmed his nerves and then deliberately put on an arrogant appearance:

"Don't you know that I am a Sequence 9 powerhouse, and not just an ordinary Sequence 9 at that? What is your strength, to dare speak such arrogant words?"

Hearing his arrogant and slightly provocative words, a hint of helplessness seemed to flash across the puppet's face:

"Stop pretending. I know you aren't the arrogant type, kid. Trying to test my depth with such a performance isn't going to be enough."

"I'm not pretending. I'm just quite confident in my own strength."

Locke Galahad didn't feel awkward and continued to probe.

"Since you are confident in your own strength, you don't need to worry about me using these methods against you later."

"That won't do, unless you tell me what Sequence your strength is."

The puppet cast a sidelong glance at the somewhat shameless Locke Galahad, its tone very indifferent:

"If you want to know my strength, you will find out after you join the Secret Cult. My current strength does not represent my future strength. By then, you should understand that even today, I could kill you without any effort."

When it said this, its expression didn't fluctuate in the slightest. Locke Galahad was completely unable to judge the truth of its words from its expression.

However, based on the various actions of this person behind the scenes, Locke Galahad judged that their strength shouldn't be weak.

After all, if they were weak, how could they know so many secrets about the Supernatural World?

"Fine, assuming your strength is very high, then I need you to provide me with a guarantee even more."

Locke Galahad's mind worked quickly; his eyes darted around as he found a loophole in the other party's words.

"So what do you want?" The puppet wasn't in the least bit impatient.

"Unless you swear an oath to the Goddess of the Night, how can I trust that you won't stab me in the back after the cooperation is complete?"

"You've got real guts, kid. To dare call the Goddess by her name after becoming an Extraordinary, aren't you afraid of being noticed by the Goddess?"

The puppet was amused by Locke Galahad's idea, looking at him with a playful expression, its tone even carrying a hint of mockery.

"Uh..." Locke Galahad froze for a moment, having seemingly read something incredible from the puppet's words. Could it be that the legendary Goddess of the Night actually existed?!

If that were the case, didn't it mean this world was extremely dangerous? This was far more dangerous than he had previously anticipated.

Locke Galahad believed that since there were Extraordinaries, those who hadn't reached the pinnacle certainly couldn't be called deities. These deities might even become his mission targets in the future. Just thinking about it made him a bit scared, but also uncontrollably excited.

He loved thrills and never feared a challenge.

However, he still needed to show the respect due to a deity. So, he looked up at the sky and said in a very sincere tone:

"I have believed in Lady Goddess of the Night since I was a child, so if I ask her to bear witness, Her Ladyship shouldn't have any objections."

"You really don't know anything, kid." The puppet explained with some helplessness:

"If you really want to ask a deity to bear witness, you have to provide some offerings. Do you think the Goddess would pay attention to you with just empty words?"

"Since you are the one swearing the oath, shouldn't you be the one to provide this?"

"You really know how to take advantage of things, kid. You want all the good stuff for yourself."

As the puppet spoke, it plucked a crystal-clear, round green gemstone out of thin air. Locke Galahad was no stranger to the aura it emitted; it was the mysterious aura characteristic of a supernatural polymer left behind after an Extraordinary Creature dies.

However, the stone the puppet produced emitted an aura that was truly Sequence 9, purer and more mysterious than anything Locke Galahad had seen before.

It was not something that could be compared to the translucent polymers he had obtained from the corpses of Kraven and Victor.

Seeing this, although Locke Galahad was somewhat mentally prepared, his pupils still contracted imperceptibly.

The puppet's action of pulling out a Sequence 9 polymer from thin air, along with its indifferent expression, completely confirmed the hypothesis he had earlier.

"It seems this person behind the scenes is truly not simple. Could they be a real big shot in the Secret Cult?"

On the other side, the puppet noticed Locke Galahad's reaction, and the corners of its mouth curled up imperceptibly, as if in triumph or pride. In any case, its behavior was completely unlike that of a wooden puppet.

"It seems you recognize this. Then I won't waste any more words. Watch closely."
