66: Equip with all necessary equipment
In the armory, Serena selected a very suitable silver longsword for Locke according to his requirements.
"Do you want to try it? This is a fine treasure I've cherished for many years; it is said to have been passed down from the family of a Knight of the Round Table in England."
"Is that so?"
Upon hearing the title of Knight of the Round Table, Locke became interested and reached out to take the sheathed longsword from Serena's hand.
The sword was 1.2 meters long, a standard knight's sidearm.
The scabbard had a silvery sheen all over and was engraved with many rose patterns, with a few red gems studded in the center of the flowers.
Judging from its appearance, it was indeed noble and luxurious.
In the Middle Ages, it would definitely have been a fine sword that only noble children could afford.
After examining it, Locke drew the longsword and weighed it in his hand.
The weight was acceptable; it was slightly heavier than a standard-issue longsword.
However, it still felt a bit light in his hand, but there was no helping that.
He had already tried a whole round in the armory, and this was the only one that felt somewhat suitable.
"How is it? This one is alright, isn't it?"
Serena looked at him with eager anticipation. Locke nodded and sheathed the longsword:
"Except for being slightly light, everything else, from the feel to the sharpness, is quite good. It should be enough to deal with Victor."
"What about a gun? Do you want to choose an automatic rifle?"
"No need, I'll just use the revolver."
Locke shook his head and refused.
A rifle wouldn't offer him much of an upgrade, and carrying it around made him too conspicuous, which was inconvenient.
Putting it in his Personal Space would take up slots, which wasn't worth it.
The main thing is that at this stage, unless he put the muzzle right against the bodies of Victor, Marcus, or William, it would be difficult to hit them.
Locke was now confident that from beyond 10 paces,
even if someone suddenly fired at him, he had the confidence to dodge it. This was the powerful enhancement brought to him by Sequence 9.
"Then wait for me to select a set of gear, and I'll go with you to find Victor."
Upon hearing this, Locke hurriedly reached out to stop Serena, shook his head, and said:
"I have other tasks for you and Erica to handle. You two shouldn't participate in this crusade against Victor for now."
After all, Alfred had told him earlier
that he had once sensed the aura of an Extraordinary Creature in Victor's secret chamber,
and Locke didn't have much confidence against that Extraordinary Creature right now, so naturally, he dared not risk taking Serena and the others along.
Therefore, to be safe, it was better to send the two of them away first.
"What other work is there for us to do?"
Both Erica and Serena stopped what they were doing and stared at him intently.
"Hmm, I need you to go into New York and bring Emilia back."
"Isn't Emilia dead?" Erica widened her eyes.
"She isn't dead; I just placed her in a safe location."
Locke scratched his head a bit sheepishly and then explained with a smile: "Actually, I saved Emilia and her subordinates that day; I just dealt with a few of Kraven's men..."
"Whoa, so the story you told us back then was a lie."
Serena immediately grasped the point, put her hands on her hips, and glared at him indignantly.
"I didn't mean to deceive you." Locke took Serena's hand, looked into her eyes, and said very sincerely:
"Because if Emilia hadn't died, Victor wouldn't have been awakened, and I wouldn't have had the chance to kill him."
"So you did it on purpose? You just wanted me to go and awaken Victor!"
Serena looked enlightened, then gave him a reproachful glance: "Why do you want to kill Victor? Could it be that you knew long ago that he would come looking for trouble after he woke up?"
"That's not it. Aside from it being related to me, it's more importantly related to you."
"Me? Before today, I had no grudge against him."
Serena was very confused by Locke's words. "If he hadn't insisted on killing you today, I wouldn't have turned against him."
"Actually... there are some things I don't know if I should tell you." Locke hesitated.
"What is it?"
"Things related to your background."
As soon as these words were spoken, Serena froze as if struck by lightning, her brows furrowed, completely confused.
"Related to my background? But Locke, aren't you only in your 20s? How could you possibly know so much?"
Her origins could be traced back hundreds of years.
Locke's grandfather hadn't even been born back then, so how could he possibly know about Serena's background?
This was why she couldn't understand what Locke was saying.
"How long I've lived doesn't matter, but some things can transcend time. If you want to hear it, I can tell you now."
Locke felt that Serena would have to know this news eventually, so it would be better to just tell her now.
Anyway, he was about to go kill Victor, and besides completing the mission, it would also count as avenging his father-in-law's family.
Serena pondered for a moment, bit her lip, and then nodded solemnly:
"Tell me. I think I can handle it."
"Actually, your family wasn't killed by werewolves."
"This... are you sure?"
Locke looked at Serena's conflicted expression and felt a pang of heartache, but since things had reached this point, he couldn't stop now.
"I am very certain; this news cannot be false. And besides me, Kraven should have known as well, but I killed him before he could tell you."
Serena's eyes widened suddenly, her mouth agape, and she looked at him in bewilderment, then muttered to herself:
"But... I remember very clearly that it was the werewolves who killed my whole family, and then Victor appeared and saved me..."
Well, due to her trust in Locke, she couldn't help but doubt her own memories at this moment.
"Actually, it was Victor who killed your parents; all the memories you possess were forged by him."
Locke wrapped his arms around Serena and slowly revealed the truth.
"When he saw you, he was merely reminded of the daughter he had killed himself, which is why he spared you. At the same time, he wanted to turn you into a sharp blade for the Vampire to use against the werewolves..."
"I..." Serena lost her voice instantly, losing the ability to think in that moment.
The memories in her brain, due to Locke's words, gradually began to overturn.
The truths that had been covered by false memories slowly floated to the surface.
"I remember everything."
Serena's eyes gradually became fierce, and her hand gripping Locke's also subconsciously tightened:
"It was Victor, it was he who killed my parents."
