143: Find the enemy
Chapter 143: Finding the Enemy
"To a high-sequence Beyonder, a low-sequence one like you is no different from being stark naked."
Time patted Locke on the shoulder immediately after, saying meaningfully, "Women are fine to have, but you must know moderation. Never let them hinder your pace on the path of transcendence."
"I understand, Teacher."
"Alright, I won't say much more to you. These are matters of your personal life, and it's not my place to interfere too much."
Locke could only smile and scratch his head.
With the [Star Slave Contract] skill, it was impossible for him to give up women.
Besides, the feeling of rapid progress he experienced last Time through the dual cultivation method with Serena had left a deep impression on him.
Perhaps it would come in handy when practicing other techniques in the future.
Time just gave him a deep look, knowing Locke hadn't taken his advice to heart. He shook his head and said, "In a moment, I will send you and the other two little fellows away from this island."
"As for how to join the Cult of the Goddess of Night, take this first, and then listen carefully to what I have to say."
At this point, Time gave a light wave of his hand, and a circular badge appeared in his palm.
On the front of the badge was a portrait of the Goddess of the Night, and on the back was a full moon positioned right in the center.
Locke took it in his hand and examined it, guessing it might be a symbol of status within the Cult of the Goddess of Night.
"When you return to New York, take this badge to the Moonlight Tavern at No. 92 North District, Central Street. Then, order a glass of Rose Moon Wine at the counter. When the bartender asks where you come from, remember to answer: 'From the night.'"
Locke nodded as he listened, memorizing every word Time said without missing a single detail.
"Afterward, he will ask you to pay nine dollars. At that Time, show him this badge, and he will lead you to the initiation ceremony."
"At the same Time, you can ask them for that cultivation technique you're concerned about that can conceal your aura."
As he spoke, Time formed a hand seal with both hands. A glow of white moonlight immediately covered Locke's entire body, only fading away after a moment.
Simultaneously, on the sea about 500 kilometers north of this location, a burly figure swimming vigorously through the waves suddenly stopped as if he had lost his target.
Locke raised his hands and looked himself up and down, but didn't feel any special changes.
Time smiled. "I have placed a 'Moon Concealment' on you. This seal can shield all auras on your body, except for that of the Goddess of the Night, for one week."
Locke nodded, instantly understanding. "So I need to reach Central Street within a week and perform the initiation ceremony."
"Correct. Afterward, you can tell the Bishop there to place another Moon Concealment on you. Until you master that technique, you can go to her anytime to have her buff you."
"Understood, Teacher."
Locke didn't feel the slightest bit of annoyance. Although the procedure for learning this technique seemed rather complicated, it was trivial compared to being hunted down by the Sequence 7 killer, Jason.
"Alright, call your two traveling companions over. I'll send you out."
Locke immediately snapped his fingers toward the air, using ultrasonic waves to send a message to Alfred, who was hiding deep within the prison.
Then, thinking of the [death shadow] that existed on his status panel, he decided to take this opportunity to ask further. "Teacher, I have a few more questions I'd like to consult you about, if I may?"
Time crossed his arms and nodded with a smile. "Ask whatever questions you have now. I might not be in New York for a while after this."
Locke didn't ask what he was going to do, but immediately asked the question that had been weighing on his mind. "I just want to know if there's any special curse seal or ritual that can continuously suppress a person's mental power?"
"You mean suppressing mental power?" Time's expression darkened noticeably upon hearing this.
"Yes, specifically something that can suppress a person's mental power from a normal level down to half."
Locke then described his own situation in a calm tone.
"Teacher, do you know which sect this belongs to, or if there is anyone in the transcendent world who possesses such an ability?"
"There are such people. They usually like to call themselves 'Walkers of Death.' Their methods are quite bizarre, and they worship some Evil God that popped out of nowhere."
Time looked at Locke, his expression somewhat puzzled as he said, "But generally speaking, people who have this skill used on them are supposed to die. You aren'tβ"

"Ah, Teacher, it's not me."
Locke waved his hands hurriedly. Reincarnation was his greatest secret in this life, something he couldn't reveal even to those closest to him.
So he quickly made up an excuse. "It's just that someone I know encountered this situation, so I'm curious and want to take precautions in advance."
Even as he said that, he began to think. 'It seems it's them.'
Hearing Time's words, Locke immediately knew that the people who had killed him were very likely these cultists who called themselves Walkers of Death.
This was basically one hundred percent certain.
Because his predecessor had indeed died, and he was merely an otherworldly soul who had taken over.
Time didn't quite believe him, as he had learned of this from other believers of the Cult of the Goddess of Night; not many people in the entire transcendent world should know about this sect.
However, Locke didn't show any flaws when explaining, and since he was indeed still alive and well, Time didn't think too much about it.
"Your way of thinking is correct. There aren't many people in this sect, but every one of them has extremely bizarre methods. It's not a bad thing for you to learn about them in advance."
"Then, Teacher, is there any way to remove this negative effect?"
"The person is already dead, why would you need a way to remove it?" Time asked back.
"Uhβit can't be that they die the very moment the seal is planted, right? Wouldn't those guys be invincible then?"
A flash of inspiration hit Locke's mind, and he continued to ask without much hope, "I'm mainly worried that if I accidentally encounter these guys later, I can find a solution immediately so I won't be killed by them."
"Let me think. Those related memories are a bit too distant."
Time extended a slender finger, lightly tapping his brow. He closed his eyes and pondered for a long while before finally finding the corresponding solution from his ancient memories.
Found it.
After opening his eyes, he looked at Locke. "Indeed, as you said, one doesn't die immediately after being hit by this move. Instead, they are sacrificed to that Evil God like a puppet."
Locke's expression was cold, and he didn't speak.
Hmph, followers of an Evil God?
Then let's see who gets the last laugh!
