12: Task completed

"Oh no, Serena, they're catching up."

Locke Galahad also feigned pulling out his gun and reached out to trade fire with the werewolves behind them.

As the personnel moved, the battlefield shifted from the building to the street.

He was using this method to delay their pursuit; even though he was just acting, he had to play the part convincingly.

In the original movie, after the male lead was injured, he just sat in the passenger seat and did nothing.

If it weren't for Serena being capable enough at the time, plus the werewolves intentionally letting them go, the story of Underworld would have probably ended right there.

There wouldn't have been any subsequent story.

Familiar with the original plot, he naturally wouldn't do something like that; after all, he still needed to earn Serena's trust as soon as possible to complete his mission.

And his active counterattack was seen by Serena.

Watching Locke Galahad leaning against the window, firing back incessantly, the suspicion in Serena's heart gradually diminished.

Correspondingly, trust began to take the upper hand.

"No one would go to such lengths just to infiltrate the Vampire Clan, right?"

She had just seen several bullets graze Locke Galahad's arm, causing blood to splatter while leaving several deep gashes.

However, this was only for a split second. Upon seeing Lucien charging toward the car, Serena had already started the engine.

On the quiet street, besides the sound of gunfire, the roar of the engine followed. Vroom, vroom, vroom.

"Hold on tight."

Serena gave a cold reminder before slamming on the gas and jerking the steering wheel to the right.

Following Serena's warning, Locke Galahad didn't stop firing while grabbing the handle above the left door with one hand.

Just as he gripped it, the black jaguar fishtailed violently in the parking spot, its red taillights leaving an S-shaped afterimage in the air. Then, it shot forward.

The speed was so fast that even Locke Galahad was left tongue-tied. "This must be specially modified; it's much faster than it looked in the movie."

Locke Galahad watched the houses receding, worrying whether Lucien could catch up to them and deliver the critical blow.

Under Serena's control, the jaguar no longer seemed like a car, but had truly transformed into a panther of the night, sprinting down the road.

However, this time it was not a hunter chasing prey, but prey being hunted by werewolves.

Therefore, while sprinting, Serena still had to constantly watch the rear and make timely swerving maneuvers to dodge the bullets fired by the werewolves. Her movements were ridiculously agile.

However, this inevitably affected their speed, which gave Lucien the opportunity he needed.

Looking into the rearview mirror, Locke Galahad saw Lucien, who had completely transformed into a werewolf, getting closer and closer to the car, and he couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.

"Good thing he didn't disappoint me."

As long as Lucien caught up and delivered that critical attack, Locke Galahad was confident he could complete the temporary mission today.

He let out a breath, while Serena beside him held hers. Seeing Lucien racing toward them, a rare look of tension appeared on Serena's face.

There was no helping it; Lucien's speed was just too fast. She felt that even if she didn't dodge bullets and sprinted at full speed, she might not necessarily be much faster than him.

Of course, the reason Lucien was so fast was mainly because Locke Galahad intentionally didn't attack him, firing bullets that consciously grazed past him.

Seeing the bullets whizzing past, Lucien knew Locke Galahad was intentionally going easy on him. Then, noticing Locke Galahad nodding at him, he stopped holding back.

The muscles in his legs bulged violently, his thigh muscles almost reaching the circumference of an adult's waist. In the next instant, his speed suddenly doubled.

This caused the distance of several dozen meters to be instantly devoured and shortened to zero. One second, two seconds. In less than three seconds, he leaped up and landed steadily on the roof of the jaguar.

Locke Galahad and Serena only heard a loud clang, and the metal roof above them suddenly caved in.

Upon encountering this, Serena jerked the steering wheel from side to side, trying to throw Lucien off the roof, while Locke Galahad focused all his attention on the roof, preparing to block the impending blade.

After two clinking sounds, a sharp blade thrust down violently from where Serena was.

Having waited for a long time, Locke Galahad's eyes lit up upon hearing the two signals. Just as the blade was about to pierce Serena's shoulder, he hurriedly grabbed the blade with his hand.

"Serena, watch out."

Turning back to see Locke Galahad's blood-covered hand, Serena's eyes were filled with worry. She felt a surge of ruthlessness and began to sway the vehicle wildly, as if she didn't care about their lives.

The black jaguar was like a crazed female panther, darting wildly across the road.

Realizing the change in the vehicle, Lucien naturally knew the plan was complete, so he violently pulled out the blade and jumped off the car.

He didn't linger any further, standing in place with a smile, watching the departing car from afar.

"I hope your plan goes smoothly."

Behind him, Kruto, who had originally wanted to compete with Locke Galahad again, ran downstairs only to see his beloved GTR crushed into junk, and instantly lost the mood to contend with Locke Galahad.

"Ahhhh..." He stumbled around the GTR that had turned into scrap metal, and finally, unable to control his emotions, he knelt on the ground on the spot and roared at the sky: "No!"

On the other side, the culprit was still sitting in the car. In just a few seconds, fine beads of sweat had already covered Locke Galahad's forehead.

Although he possessed the constitution of a Vampire, being stabbed by a blade with a blood groove was still quite painful. The main issue was that the blood loss from his body was too rapid, which even a Vampire couldn't withstand.

However, this was exactly the result he had meticulously planned to achieve.

"H...hold on. Once we get back to the Vampire Base and you drink... drink some blood, you'll be fine."

Serena's words of concern involuntarily carried a tremor, and even her unchanging icy expression became somewhat anxious, her delicate eyebrows knitted together.

Even the jaguar, which had been relatively steady, suddenly became unsteady.

"I'm still okay..."

Looking at the smile on Locke Galahad's pale face, Serena felt a tightness in her chest for no reason, and she pressed down on the accelerator even harder.

"Faster, faster, faster, give me even more speed."

Fire was almost coming out of Serena's eyes; she wished the vehicle under her was a rocket.

The roar of the jaguar's engine was like her own angry roar, growing louder and louder.

Seeing Serena so worried about him, Locke Galahad felt relieved: "No matter what happens now, the mission should be complete."

Just as he finished this thought, the scene before his eyes began to blur. "What is this..."

He fell toward Serena before he could finish his sentence. In the second before losing consciousness, a system notification echoed in his ears: "It was truly worth all the painstaking effort and suffering this time; it's finally complete."

【Ding! Temporary mission completed. Conditions for double rewards have been met. Drawing rewards...】

Not long after the werewolves and Locke Galahad's group left, a team of people in black suits arrived at the scene and efficiently cleaned up the entire battlefield inside and out. Even the broken glass and walls of the hospital were repaired by them using strange tools.

The white-bearded old man leading them held a silver coin, muttering words. A few seconds later, glass shards, fallen wall sections, and flying wood chips flew up from the ground one after another, embedding themselves back into their original positions.

Before long, the third floor of the hospital, which had been dilapidated and looked like a ruin, was completely restored, returning to the state it was in before Locke Galahad's battle began. No one would be able to tell that a fierce gunfight had taken place here.

The white-bearded old man swallowed the silver coin, watching the direction in which Locke Galahad had left, his eyes flickering: "I have waited for several centuries; has the time for harvest finally arrived?"
