92: Moon Hidden
Marcus was in no rush. As a Vampire, he enjoyed the expression of resistance on his prey before death more than anything else; only when accompanied by that desperate and helpless expression could the taste of blood be truly exquisite.
Lucien, having been beaten to the point where he had almost lost the ability to fight, struggled to stand up from the ground. Watching Marcus approach him, his expression grew increasingly grave. He spread his almost completely broken arms, standing firmly in front of Sophia, who had not yet fully recovered.
Although the piercing pain from his broken bones kept stimulating his brain, urging him to give up, his love for Sophia would not allow him to retreat even half a step. He could not bear to watch his beloved woman die before his eyes again.
"Cough, cough."
But just as he stood up to speak, he aggravated the wounds to his internal organs, coughing up a large mouthful of blood, which was mixed with fragments of his organs.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk. Your willpower is truly commendable, but what a pity."
Marcus watched Lucien's desperate struggle, shaking his head and sighing, then turned his gaze toward the space behind Lucien with great interest.
"I was wondering why you little wolf pup didn't run away when you first saw me, but instead chose to clash with me head-on. So, you were protecting Victor's daughter, hahahaha."
"You... don't come any closer!"
Lucien gasped heavily for air, as if he would collapse to the ground the next second.
Having reached the end of his rope, he no longer had any strength to resist the powerful Marcus.
Only a shred of willpower kept him upright.
Although Sophia was a Vampire, he knew that Vampires didn't have much affection for one another. After all, even Victor could kill his own daughter, and Marcus had no relationship with Sophia at all; he might be even more ruthless than Victor when he struck.
Marcus was in no hurry. He stroked his chin and circled around Lucien and Sophia, feeling quite curious in his heart:
"Actually, I'm very curious. How did you manage to resurrect this daughter of Victor?"
"That has nothing to do with you."
"Nothing to do with me? Hahahaha."
Marcus laughed out loud, then his figure flashed, and in the blink of an eye, he rushed in front of Sophia, who was lying on the ground with her eyes closed, and grabbed her by the throat.
"Does it still have nothing to do with me now? You had better think clearly before you answer."
Lucien watched his beloved being grabbed by Marcus like that, and a raging fire was about to ignite in his eyes. He was terrified that Sophia's resurrection would fail because of Marcus's actions.
So he roared at Marcus:
"If you have any issues, come at me! Don't... don't... hurt Sophia."
His voice was hoarse, yet filled with determination and pleading.
"A pair of infatuated lovers? This is truly interesting."
Seeing Lucien's expression, Marcus involuntarily swallowed his saliva once more, and the red light in his eyes grew increasingly intense.
"Yes, yes, yes! That's it. The more desperate, the more desperate the emotions are, the more they can give birth to the most exquisite blood in this world. I can hardly wait."
He had a premonition that he might be able to taste some top-quality blood today.
For this, he forcibly suppressed his urge to pounce on and devour Lucien immediately.
Marcus didn't have much interest in Sophia, regarding her only as a condiment or ripening agent to enhance Lucien's blood.
He merely leaned down and took a sniff of Sophia, and after feeling extremely disgusted, he let go of her.
"Ugh, what is this smell? It's disgusting."
It was one thing not to smell it, but this sniff dispelled even the last bit of interest he had.
Because the smell Marcus had just detected was precisely the undigested virgins curd.
For evil Extraordinary Creatures, this stuff was poison. It would cause them to feel a deep physiological aversion.
Marcus stood up, wiped his hands with a hint of disgust, and then slowly walked in front of Lucien.
"I'll give you a choice: your life for hers. As long as you don't resist, I guarantee that after I drain your blood, I won't lay a finger on her."
"You... you bastard..." The rage in Lucien's eyes seemed to grow hotter, but his heart sank to the bottom.
He hadn't expected that just after rescuing Sophia thanks to Locke Galahad, he would be the one to leave this world before her.
After thinking for a while, Lucien helplessly accepted the fact, then slowly closed his eyes, turned his head away, and exposed his neck.
"Marcus, I hope you keep your word. If you dare to break your promise, even if I die, even if I become a demon, I will crawl back from hell to chew your bones piece by piece and swallow them into my stomach."
"Rest assured, that woman stinks too much; I'm not interested. The only thing I'm interested in is you—only the blood in your body that makes me so restless."
Marcus didn't take Lucien's threats seriously. After speaking, he bared a mouthful of pale white teeth and impatiently bit down toward Lucien's neck.
Although Lucien did not want to die, he was prepared to sacrifice himself. As long as Sophia could live, what did it matter if he died?
"Sophia, I hope you can live well after you wake up..."
Just as those two pairs of sharp fangs were about to pierce Lucien's artery, at this critical moment, under the faint moonlight, a black shadow rushed in from outside the woods at an incredible speed.
"Marcus!"
Locke Galahad put strength into his legs and leaped high into the air from over ten meters away. His whole body was like a black sword; he first shot up into mid-air, then flew in a parabolic arc toward the position of Marcus and Lucien.
His speed was incredibly fast; the violent wind caused the black trench coat behind him to snap and billow loudly.
At this moment, Locke Galahad's silhouette overlapped with the outline of the moon; he seemed to have transformed into a Grim Reaper with bat wings, swooping down toward the two.
Upon hearing Locke Galahad's voice, Lucien thought it was a hallucination before death. He opened his eyes and looked, only to see a black figure like a Great Bat beneath the moon, diving toward him at a speed even faster than when Marcus had descended earlier.
After Lucien realized the figure was Locke Galahad, he shouted in an anxious voice: "Locke Galahad, don't come over! Marcus... cough, cough... this guy is several times stronger than Victor. You are no match for him."
But Locke Galahad's expression was calm, as if he hadn't heard Lucien at all, and he kept charging straight ahead. Seeing this, Lucien only hoped in his heart that Locke Galahad could resist Marcus, this old guy who had lived for who knows how long, and not meet his end like him.
However, Lucien had clearly misjudged Locke Galahad's strength. He was viewing Locke Galahad with the perspective of how normal people grew.
