8: Quick attack strategy

Inside the clinic, under the flickering incandescent lights, Locke's expression was calm.

He was like a patient hunter, quietly lurking in the clinic, waiting for his prey, Serena, to take the bait.

Fortunately, Serena didn't make him wait long.

Less than two hours after Lucien left, just as it turned dark, Serena arrived before him, gun in hand, just as she had in the movie.

The moment Locke saw her arrive, he didn't feel surprised; instead, he calmly sized up the peerless beauty before him.

After all, when he watched "Underworld" in the past, he had been captivated by Serena's beauty.

He believed that the vast majority of men in this world watched this movie for Serena's beauty.

There was no helping it; Kate Beckinsale had perfectly embodied the allure of a female Vampire.

And now, the real Serena before him was just as she had been portrayed in the movie.

She was wearing a black, tight-fitting leather suit that showcased her curvaceous and powerful figure to the fullest.

Her jet-black, lustrous hair draped over her shoulders.

Most striking of all were her skin, as pale as moonlight, and her deep, captivating blue eyes.

Upon seeing Locke's face, Serena lowered her head to compare it with the figure in the photograph she had obtained from the Werewolf Clan.

After confirming it was the right person, she immediately stepped forward.

Without a moment's hesitation, she shoved him against the wall.

Locke suppressed the urge to draw his gun and feigned a look of bewilderment, staring into Serena's blue eyes as he said:

"My lady, whatever you have to say, we can talk about it properly. There is no need for this."

"From now on, I ask, you answer."

Serena's pale face remained expressionless; she wasn't falling for his act.

Locke nodded.

"Uh-huh."

"Why is the Werewolf Clan looking for you?"

"You want to know?"

A smirk tugged at the corner of Locke's mouth.

"Don't waste time. Speak honestly. If you don't want to be killed by the Werewolf Clan, tell me everything you know. Perhaps you might still survive."

Locke recited the words he had prepared beforehand without missing a beat: "I am all alone now. What is the point of living?"

"What do you mean by that?"

His words made Serena think that his family had also been killed by the Werewolf Clan, so she couldn't help but feel a sliver of empathy for him.

This wasn't her overthinking; it was mainly because she knew the Werewolf Clan was secretly looking for Locke, and combined with these words that Locke had intentionally spoken, she naturally made that connection.

"My parents have already been killed by someone. Death to me would only be a release. Besides, I don't have the strength to fight my enemies right now."

Locke's words weren't entirely false.

His parents had both died not long ago, and when combined with the earlier scene of his suicide, he already had his suspicions.

His parents, who appeared to have died in a car accident, were very likely murdered by the mastermind behind the scenes.

His dejected words immediately left Serena at a loss; for a moment, she didn't know how to comfort him.

"This... you don't need to be so dejected. If you need power, once you pass the assessment, I can give it to you."

"You give me power? You are just a woman. What kind of power could you possibly give me?"

Locke was secretly delighted but didn't show it.

"Forget it, you can't help me."

Seeing that Locke actually expressed disbelief in her, Serena opened her vibrant red lips to reveal the pair of sharp fangs inside.

"Do you see clearly now?"

"You... what exactly are you?"

Locke's pupils constricted, feigning shock.

After a brief conversation and the shared empathy, Serena slowly lowered her guard and let go of him.

"I am a Vampire."

"A Vampire? Vampires actually exist?"

Locke continued his performance: "So, you mean you are willing to turn me into a Vampire, to let me possess the power for revenge?"

"Yes."

Serena nodded, a flash of anger rising in her eyes.

"I sympathize with your plight. My parents were also killed by others once. I can understand you."

Seeing her like this, Locke felt a bit reluctant to deceive her.

However, considering he truly needed to take revenge against the mastermind, he had no choice but to continue.

The Hybrid was only one step away.

He had Michael's blood, and he had just obtained Lucien's blood through the exchange; all that was missing was Vampire blood.

Once he obtained the Vampire genes from Serena, his combat power would be further enhanced.

At the very least, in a one-on-one fight, he would absolutely be no less than the three Elders of the Vampire race or the progenitor of the Werewolf Clan.

"Thank you."

Serena extended her hand, expressionless.

"Don't be so quick to thank me. Becoming a Vampire will have very significant side effects. Can you accept that?"

"If you mean being unable to be exposed to sunlight like in urban legends, I... I can accept that."

Locke was not worried about this; after all, he already knew from the movie that there were many ways to avoid this side effect.

Transforming into a Hybrid was exactly one of them.

Seeing his firm resolve, Serena didn't try to persuade him otherwise and brought the topic back to the beginning.

"So, do you know why the Werewolf Clan is looking for you?"

"I'm actually not sure."

Locke shook his head calmly.

Seeing that she couldn't get any answers, Serena waved her hand.

"Since you don't know, then come with me back to the Vampire base. Once you complete the assessment, I will turn you into a Vampire."

"What is the assessment?"

"That, you don't need to know."

Serena didn't explain it very clearly, and Locke didn't press for more.

After all, the more one asks, the more mistakes one makes.

Right now, they hadn't experienced much together, and their relationship hadn't reached that level yet.

In reality, there was no assessment; it was merely that Serena didn't fully believe his words yet and intended to observe him for a while longer.

"Let's go."

After saying this, Serena turned to head downstairs, and Locke, taking advantage of her turning away, quietly gestured towards the window outside.

This was the signal to notify Lucien to act.

Sure enough, as soon as he finished the gesture, several wolf howls immediately rang out outside the clinic.

This sudden turn of events immediately put Serena on high alert.

She pulled him behind her and then moved to the window to observe the movement downstairs.

"Tch, this group of Werewolves actually arrived this fast."

"Then what should we do? Break out from the front?"

The mastermind behind it all, Locke, stood behind her feigning a panicked appearance, while in reality, he was completely calm inside.

"I'm afraid that won't work."

Serena's expression was heavy.

"There are many of them. If we leave from the front, we will definitely be surrounded. And you are still just an ordinary person; once you are caught in the conflict between me and the Werewolf Clan, I'm afraid you will be torn to shreds in an instant."

After all, looking at the movement downstairs, there shouldn't be just one or two Werewolves; the number was somewhat high, and she might not be able to handle them alone.

If it weren't for Locke, she would have dared to break out from the front.

At this moment, she couldn't help but curse Kraven in her heart.

If that guy had been a bit smarter and believed what she had said, she wouldn't have come alone.

"Damn Kraven..."

Locke didn't know she was thinking so much; mainly, he wasn't worried about the current situation.

After all, Lucien had already reached a cooperative agreement with him.

Of course, even if the other party went back on their word now, he could immediately use their blood to transform into a Werewolf to protect himself.

Looking at the worried-looking Serena, an idea immediately popped into Locke's mind.

"If it doesn't work, you should just leave on your own. Trying to break out while bringing an ordinary person like me along, even if you are a Vampire, I'm afraid it will be very difficult. One person living is better than two people dying together."

His words seemed simple, but they were full of technique.

Women are inherently emotional creatures.

This simple sentence from Locke touched the soft part of Serena's heart.

"No."

Serena's eyes were firm, and she shook her head in refusal.

"Since I promised to give you power, I will absolutely not let you die here."

With that, she actually reached out, tore open Locke's collar, stood on her tiptoes, and opened her mouth as she lunged at him.
