79: curd
Upon hearing his words, Lucien cleared his throat, but in the end, he could not even manage a complete sentence; the shock of this scene was simply too much for him.
"I will give you a little more time, but this thing must be dealt with."
Locke had witnessed the bizarre nature of the Flesh Ball, so he naturally had no intention of letting it go easily. Although it bore the same face as Sophia, it was, in the end, not a person.
Lucien understood this as well. He gave Locke a grateful look and hugged the human face, weeping.
His tears fell like raindrops onto the human face. As if stimulated by something, the face suddenly opened its eyes once again.
Locke, who had been highly vigilant, noticed this scene and immediately rushed forward, drawing his sword, ready to sever the creature's head before it could launch an attack.
"Lucien, move aside!"
Though reluctant, Lucien prepared to comply and step back, but just as he was about to release his grip, the Flesh Ball monster extended a pair of tentacles that tightly grabbed his hands.
The tentacles merely coiled around his wrists and did not cause him any harm.
At the same time, a trace of humanity seemed to flash in the monster's eyes as it stared blankly at Lucien.
Locke naturally saw this, and the sword he had been about to swing came to a halt in mid-air.
"Could it be that she still retains a trace of her original memories? Is that really possible?"
He was very puzzled, so he did not strike immediately, choosing instead to stand on the side, holding his sword while observing.
Held by the tentacles of the Flesh Ball monster, and seeing the light flashing in those eyes, Lucien felt as if he had momentarily returned to the days he spent with Sophia.
This reignited a glimmer of hope in his once-dead heart, and he shouted excitedly: "Sophia, Sophia, do you remember me? Sophia!"
The Flesh Ball monster opened its mouth as if wanting to respond, but it could not speak human language. In the end, it only let out strange cries: "Yi-ah-wu, lu-yi-ah."
Upon hearing its own strange cries, the Flesh Ball monster's eyes flashed with panic. It then frantically moved its lips, trying hard to speak human language, but it simply could not.
Eventually, the Flesh Ball monster seemed to realize that it was no longer human, so it gave up.
It just looked at Lucien quietly, then extended a pair of tentacles to pull him close, pressing their faces together.
At that moment, Locke, watching from the side, discovered that he could actually see a human-like expression on the monster's face, and two tears of blood rolled down from the corners of its eyes.
"Hundreds of years have passed, and it still truly retains its consciousness!"
Locke could not help but marvel at such extraordinary methods. However, because he was in such a mysterious world, he did not find it too hard to accept.
After all, gods, unknown lifeforms, and the Vampire Progenitor—creatures that could not exist in reality—all existed here. So, the idea of a dead person being resurrected while retaining their consciousness did not seem impossible.
"It is just that, in the end, this is no longer a human."
Seeing the tears flowing from the eyes of his beloved, and witnessing that gaze filled with both love and guilt, Lucien's heart felt as if it were being sliced by a thousand knives. He wished he could take Sophia's place and endure such suffering and torture himself.
"Is there any way to save you? Is there any way to save you?"
"Who can save you?"
"Since there is still consciousness, it means there is still hope for salvation. I must save you; even if it kills me, I will bring you back to life..."
As he thought about this, Lucien suddenly remembered Locke, recalling the various wonders he had displayed and his incredible knowledge. He turned his head sharply to look at Locke and pleaded:
"Locke, you know so much; you must have a way to save Sophia, right? I beg you, please help me. As long as you are willing to help me, I will do anything."
Locke looked at his excited demeanor, then examined Sophia's current state, pondering for a long while.
"It seems the soul is still there, the consciousness remains, and the body arguably exists as well. Can she be considered injured, then?"
"Can the item I have cure her?"
He was thinking, because he still had a drop of 【virgins curd】 in his Personal Space, which could treat mental and physical injuries.
Therefore, it might just have some effect on Sophia's current condition.
Although this curd was a system reward and extremely precious, it wouldn't be a loss if it could help Lucien and lead to his submission. After all, if he could subdue Lucien, it would be equivalent to subduing the entire Werewolf Clan, which would be the greatest help in completing his main quest.
"Let me think."
Locke weighed the pros and cons in his mind, because he could not be sure if the drop of holy milk in his hand would have any effect on Sophia's current state. If it had no effect, it would be a waste.
However, when he looked up and saw the pleading, expectant gaze on Lucien's face, Locke steeled his heart and decided to give it a try.
After all, when he watched the movie in his previous life, he had quite a fondness for Lucien's character. Therefore, he was willing to help if he could.
Moreover, this virgins curd did not seem to be an exceptionally rare reward; perhaps he could obtain more in the future.
Coupled with the subsequent missions, he felt there were no major difficulties. Whether it was Marcus or William, he estimated it would be hard for them to cause him any harm again. If the upcoming mission were extremely high-risk, he would definitely keep the curd for himself.
Having figured it out, Locke waved his hand gently, and a transparent glass bottle appeared in his hand.
Inside the glass bottle was a drop of milky white liquid that shimmered slightly under the moonlight. Just looking at it, it seemed full of divinity and was highly extraordinary.
Upon seeing this, the light in Lucien's eyes grew even brighter. He looked at the drop of curd in Locke's hand with great anticipation: "Mr. Locke, this is..."
"virgins curd. It is a legendary item that can heal physical and mental injuries. I do not know if it will have any effect on Sophia now, but this is the best method I can think of at the moment. Are you willing to try?"
Locke did not immediately give the curd to Lucien; instead, he asked for his opinion first. Upon hearing this, Lucien thought for a long while and immediately nodded in agreement. The Flesh Ball beside him also nodded along.
"Regardless of whether it works, I will never forget your great kindness, Mr. Locke."
"Hmm."
Seeing that both of them had made up their minds, Locke uncorked the bottle, turned it upside down, and dripped the curd straight into the open mouth of the human face.
The curd slid slowly down the glass wall without leaving a trace on the bottle, like a perfect, solidified pearl, slowly falling into the mouth of the human face.
Lucien watched from the side, so nervous that he forgot to breathe. He clenched his hands so tightly that his sharp claws pierced into his own flesh, yet he did not even realize it.
After the curd was dripped in, several minutes passed, but the Flesh Ball Sophia showed absolutely no reaction.
Seeing this, Locke could not help but shake his head: "It seems it still won't work."
The light in Lucien's eyes grew increasingly dim. "Is this destiny? Can God not help me?"
Unexpectedly, in the very next second, a sudden change occurred.
