144: Future goals
Chapter 144: Future Goals
When Locke heard this, scenes of his predecessor's suicide flashed through his mind. It seemed he had asked the right person.
Whether it was the mental suppression or the state after being marked, it was exactly the same as what his predecessor had experienced.
After being in a daze for all these days, he finally knew who his enemy was!
This filled his heart with joy, but to prevent Time from noticing anything unusual, he suppressed his excitement and asked nonchalantly, "Teacher, if one encounters such a situation, how can it be resolved?"
"As long as someone else kills the caster within that timeframe, it can be undone."
Time continued, "Their ritual only ends when either the caster or the target dies."
"I understand. Thank you, Teacher."
After hearing this, Locke immediately made a decision. His future goal would be to increase his strength and then eliminate the mastermind behind this.
Otherwise, if the other party discovered he wasn't dead and performed this Evil God Ritual again, wouldn't he be doomed?
After all, the ritual's effects were still lingering on him, and no one could guarantee that the other party wouldn't activate it again one day.
Death?
He could not accept that.
Locke believed that no one in his position could accept it.
Death is the most primal fear engraved in human bones, just like the instinct for survival.
Moreover, now that he had become a Transcendent and possessed an exceptionally long lifespan, he wanted to die even less.
After all, the dream of immortality is an obsession engraved in the bones of the Chinese people.
Throughout five thousand years of Chinese history, who hasn't wanted immortality? Now that he had the chance, he naturally wouldn't give it up easily.
Locke was very firm in his heart; anyone who hindered him would be regarded as an enemy.
Although his current strength wasn't high, he would grow up one day.
Just then, Alf, who had received his message, ran out along with Serena, whose face was filled with worry.
As soon as Serena saw him, she couldn't help but throw herself into his arms, burying her head and rubbing against his chest for a long Time.
She completely ignored Time, who was standing nearby wearing wizard robes.
"Uh—" Locke held her with both hands, not daring to make his movements too large. He looked at his newly acknowledged teacher with some embarrassment and introduced, "Teacher, this is my companion and girlfriend. Her name is Serena."
Time looked Serena over carefully and then nodded with a smile, appearing quite satisfied with this disciple-in-law.
When Serena heard this, her originally squirming body suddenly stiffened.
Then, feeling a bit embarrassed, she slowly straightened up and looked back at Time with a flushed face.
She then timidly called out, "Te—Teacher, hello."
"Hahaha, hello." Seeing her shy appearance, Time couldn't help but laugh, perhaps thinking of his own youth. "It's our first meeting, and I don't have much to give you. Take this book; consider it a meeting gift from Locke's teacher."
After saying that, he took out a parchment book from his wide sleeve that was almost identical to the secret codex Locke had received.
"This—"
Serena froze for a moment, not daring to take it immediately. Instead, she looked up at Locke, seeking his opinion.
Locke just sensed it and realized the book's extraordinariness; it clearly radiated the aura of Sequence 8. So, he quickly nodded to Serena and said, "This is a gesture of goodwill from Teacher Time. Just take it."
"But he is your teacher. Is it really okay for me to take it?" Serena was still a bit hesitant.
This made Locke anxious, and he quickly signaled her with his eyes, indicating that she must not refuse as it was a good item.
Serena hesitated for a moment, but after seeing Locke's eyes darting back and forth, she immediately bowed to Time and stretched out her hands to receive the book.
"Thank you for your kindness, Teacher."
Locke followed suit and brazenly reached out his hand to Time as well. "Teacher, as your student, you haven't given me a meeting gift yet. You can't be so biased, can you?"
"You brat, didn't the hundred thorns I just gave you count as a meeting gift?"
Time was amused by the boy's shamelessness and pointed his finger up and down at him with some annoyance.
Locke pursed his lips, feeling slightly embarrassed for only a brief moment, and then continued, "Hehe, but wasn't that something traded between Teacher and me? How can it count as a meeting gift?"
"You little brat, I don't know who you learned it from, but your skin is really thick."
"Hehe." Locke gave a pure smile and scratched his head.
"Alright, stop smiling. You're smiling too early."
Time was also very generous and waved his hand. "Just tell me what else you want."
Seeing that he could make a request, Locke couldn't help but think of the Transcendent Raven that had dragged him into an illusion with just one look that night.
So he rubbed his hands together and said with feigned embarrassment, "Teacher, do you remember that raven you sent to deliver a message to me?"
Time raised his chin slightly and stared straight at him. "You want it?"
Locke nodded vigorously and looked at Time with expectation in his eyes.
"Brat, it seems you've been eyeing my raven for a long Time."
"Hehehe."
Locke smiled. "Truly, nothing escapes Teacher's eyes."
"Fine, I'll give it to you. It's only a Sequence 9 one anyway, and I'm not exactly short on them."
"Hmm?"
When Locke heard those last few words, his ears immediately perked up. "Teacher, you mean you have more than just this one? There are more!"
Seeing his surprised expression, Time felt incredibly gratified.
He finally understood how much joy there was in being a teacher.
"That's right."
Time nodded and then said very casually, in a somewhat humblebragging way, "It's just the most inconspicuous one in the raven flock. If you want it, I'll give it to you. This way, it'll also be convenient for you to use it to contact me in the future."
After saying that, he once again reached into the wide sleeve of his wizard robes. When his hand emerged, a raven with large eyes and long eyelashes was perched on it.
This was exactly the fellow Locke had toyed with before.
As soon as this fellow came out and saw Locke, it started chirping incessantly, immediately complaining to Time without any regard for the facts.
"Master, Master, it's this guy! That day you sent me to give him messages and items, and he bullied me!"
"I almost didn't make it back. You have to vent this anger for me!"
"After all, you have to look at the master before hitting the dog."
"By bullying me, he's showing no respect for you, Lord Time!"
"Hmph!"
