35: Chapter 35 Huawei Gives a Break! The Appointed Time
On the way to the parking lot, the two walked side by side. Shen Fei was 1.83 meters tall, and Zhang Mingzhu was about 1.65 meters; they looked quite harmonious walking together.
"I heard from Uncle Shen that you are starting a business in Guangzhou." Seeing that the atmosphere was a bit strange, Zhang Mingzhu took the initiative to speak.
"You could say that, taking over the family company," Shen Fei replied. "We mainly do mobile phone business in Africa. Currently, we have already conquered over 10 countries, and we are working on others."
"Transsion Technology, I've checked the information." She said it very candidly, and at the same time, a hint of a little fan-girl feeling flashed in her eyes—not deliberate flattery, but a genuine expression.
"Your press conference in Nigeria was even used as a case study by our college's communications professor. He said it was a classic example of reverse innovation. Conquer the peripheral markets first, then counter-attack the mainstream markets; even if the mainstream market fails, you still have a fallback."
Seeing this fan-girl tone, Shen Fei was a little surprised. It wasn't just the attitude, but the direction: "You even study this?"
"I study sociology, but I'm very interested in business cases." Zhang Mingzhu pushed up her glasses and took the initiative to pat him, instantly narrowing the distance between the two.
Shen Fei seemed to feel that his preparations were a bit superfluous...
"Especially regarding Chinese enterprises going global, involving culture and the customs of the destination countries, it's very interesting."
While talking, the two walked to the car. Shen Fei was driving a black Audi A6; it wasn't flashy, but the configuration was indeed quite good.
He gently opened the passenger door. After letting Zhang Mingzhu sit inside, he opened the trunk and put the luggage in the back.
"Where is the hotel booked?" he asked.
"The Garden Hotel in Yuexiu District, arranged by the school for the competition." Zhang Mingzhu looked around and then reported an address.
Shen Fei started the car and drove out of the airport expressway.
In November in Guangzhou, the weather was still hot, and the air conditioning in the car was turned on full blast.
"Actually..." Shen Fei glanced at the passenger seat. "My parents' intention is to have you stay at home. They have an old house in Liwan; it's usually empty, but someone cleans it every week. It's not far from Yuexiu District where you are participating in the competition."
A trace of an imperceptible blush appeared on Zhang Mingzhu's face. Although she was quite generous, it was too soon: "It's too much of a bother at home; the hotel is more convenient."
"I'm the only one living in that house," Shen Fei added. "I'm currently at the company and rarely come over. If you feel restricted staying at the hotel, you can go take a look. The environment is quite good, the residential area is quiet, and the security is also good."
Shen Fei's words were very clever, expressing his sincerity without making Zhang Mingzhu feel offended.
Zhang Mingzhu was silent for a while, then said softly: "Let's just go to the hotel first. I'm participating with a few classmates, and we might need to discuss some things tonight."
"Okay." Shen Fei did not persist. After all, Zhang Mingzhu's main task on this trip was to participate in the competition. He couldn't affect her results because of him; that would be irresponsible to the other teammates.
The car drove into the city, and the two chatted casually.
Zhang Mingzhu spoke very clearly and knew a lot, but she didn't excessively show off her edge in front of him. Shen Fei could pick up on every topic she mentioned, which also made him feel like he had found a kindred spirit—the feeling he had been looking forward to.
The atmosphere gradually warmed up. In between, Shen Fei also introduced to her why he chose Africa.
After understanding the specific reasons, Zhang Mingzhu's fan-girl gaze could no longer be hidden.
"So that's how it is; it's not easy at all. I hope I can help you in the future."
Shen Fei's heart suddenly skipped a beat, and a hint of a smile gradually rose on his face.
It was already past 3 PM when they arrived at the hotel.
Shen Fei helped her carry her luggage to the lobby: "Do you have any plans for the evening? If you don't have an appointment, we can grab a meal. There are a few time-honored brands in Guangzhou, and the taste is quite good."
Zhang Mingzhu looked at her phone: "It should be fine before 7 o'clock... But would it be too much trouble for you?"
"It's no trouble, I happen to be staying in Guangzhou for another two days," Shen Fei said. "I'll come pick you up at 5:30."
"Okay." She nodded, her smile still gentle and beautiful: "Thank you."
Watching her walk into the elevator, Shen Fei returned to the car but did not leave.
Zhang Mingzhu was... more comfortable than he had expected. She wasn't stunningly beautiful, but she was pleasant to look at. Her conversation was appropriate; she was knowledgeable but didn't show off, and she had her own opinions but wasn't overbearing.
She was indeed the type of virtuous wife who could "hold down the fort," and she was also the type he liked...
Based on today's feedback, it seemed this blind date was already a sure thing.
Just as he was driving away, his phone rang again; it was a call from Huang Tianya.
"The old man Ren has agreed. Next Monday at 10 AM, at the Huawei Shenzhen headquarters. He wants to learn about our information."
Shen Fei thought for a moment and replied: "Send him Transsion's information, and by the way, send the T1 and Power Max technical documents and African sales data. Also, send the summary of the most important Taishan Project. A summary is enough; keep the core technology confidential for now."
Starting the car, Shen Fei glanced at the high-rise building. There were no more barriers in matters of the heart, so what followed would be smooth sailing. The most important thing in front of him was still to secure the Huawei terminal.
On the 16th floor of the Garden Hotel, in a business suite, Zhang Mingzhu had just finished showering, wearing a hotel bathrobe, and was sitting by the window drying her hair.
As a major coastal province, the economic development was indeed better; the night lights were brilliant, which was completely different from the heavy feeling of the north.
After admiring it for a while, her phone rang; it was a video call from her best friend Lin Wei.
After answering, a face with exquisite makeup appeared on the screen. "Baby Mingzhu, you've arrived in Guangzhou, right? How is it? Are you adapting to the weather in the south?"
"It's okay, just a bit humid," Zhang Mingzhu smiled. "Have you guys set off yet?"
"Not yet, we have an early flight tomorrow. Oh right..."
Lin Wei suddenly lowered her voice, her eyes darting back and forth, full of gossip. "I heard from your aunt that you were going on a blind date. The guy is a local from Guangnan Province, and it seems he's your childhood sweetheart. So it was a childhood sweetheart; no wonder you abandoned us all and ran off by yourself."
Zhang Mingzhu blushed: "Weiwei, don't talk nonsense. What blind date, what childhood sweetheart? It's just the son of a family elder, and we're meeting incidentally."
"Come on, someone at Uncle Zhang's level—if he could personally bring it up, it definitely isn't simple." Lin Wei's gossip heart was completely ignited.
"Have you met him? What does he look like? What kind of person is he? What does he do?"
"Met him... he picked me up this afternoon." Zhang Mingzhu hesitated for a moment. "His name is Shen Fei. He's a bit dorky, mainly because he feels a bit reserved, but when we talked about work, it was like he was a different person. As for work, he makes mobile phones, Transsion Technology."
