59: Chapter 59 The Launch of the First Smartphone

At 5:00 PM sharp, the stadium lights were extinguished, and a deafening cheer instantly erupted throughout the venue.

They knew that when this happened, the press conference was about to begin.

"Transsion, the mobile phone made specifically for Africans..."

With someone taking the lead, this cheer instantly became the loudest chant at the venue.

Amidst their cheers, a spotlight hit the center of the stage, and Mr. Adebayo slowly rose from the lift on the side.

For this press conference, he didn't hold a microphone but wore a headset instead. Thus, he waved slowly to the audience around him.

"Good evening, my family in Nigeria, and my family in Africa."

Sixty thousand people responded in unison: "Good evening."

This time the sound was even louder; some excited fans were even jumping up and down in the stands.

Mr. Adebayo had already entered his zone, and to better stir up emotions, he began to tell his own inspirational little story once again.

"A year ago, I was still just a small vendor at Bal Market. Every day, I squatted by the roadside, repairing old, discarded mobile phones from the European and American markets to sell to our family."

"I knew those phones had poor signal, short battery life, and taking photos with them just looked like a blob of black shadow. But we had no choice, because that was the only thing we could afford."

"Those tech companies thought our region wasn't worth developing; the vast market of Africa was abandoned by them on the path of technological evolution."

Under his emotional rendering, the stadium instantly quieted down. This wasn't because he was deliberately badmouthing competitors, nor because his speech was particularly brilliant, but because everyone had experienced it themselves.

Backstage, Li Qing watched the reaction at the venue and nodded silently once again; this trick had been used once before, but it was still effective.

"Until one day, a young man from China came to my stall." Mr. Adebayo's eyes became excited. "He said he wanted to make a mobile phone truly designed for Africans."

"I laughed at him for being too naive, because all the big companies told us: Africans only deserve cheap goods, this market is too small and not worth special customization. Even if it were made, because of the rising costs, they wouldn't be able to afford it."

Having said this, Mr. Adebayo paused again to let the emotional rendering sink into everyone's hearts, so that it would have a better effect later.

Immediately after, he raised his voice: "But he said, Africans deserve better. And customization doesn't mean a price hike..."

Mr. Adebayo hadn't finished his introduction when applause began to erupt. Some excited audience members even grabbed the people next to them and said loudly:

"This is Transsion; he said we deserve better."

"Yes, we deserve better!"

"That was just an excuse for the laziness of those tech companies; we also need..."

After the excited voices died down, Mr. Adebayo continued to tell this memory, which could be called a miracle.

"At that time, he asked me what the African people needed most."

"I said the signal needs to be good, because we also need to contact our family far away. Every young man who can come to Lagos is outstanding; they carry the hopes of their families, they are all outstanding."

"Also, the battery life needs to be long because we frequently have power outages, and the photos need to be clear because we also want to record our children's smiles."

Having said this, Mr. Adebayo looked at some of the children offstage again, then gently wiped his eyes. Needless to say, the audience offstage had already been infected by this emotion and were frantically wiping away tears.

Indeed, they were not native residents of Lagos; they had also traveled here from various small places in Nigeria. Although it was more luxurious here compared to their hometowns, this was not their home...

It was not easy for a small place to raise someone like them; they were the pride of their families and also needed to keep in touch with their family members.

"As for what happened later, everyone should be very clear. He brought the Transsion T1, which debuted Quad-SIM, long battery life, and also brought us free charging."

"Most importantly, it only cost 99 dollars, and we could all afford it."

"Later he brought the Power Max, with even longer battery life and the same Quad-SIM, but it had better photography capabilities."

"Although the price had risen, it was still not a luxury item, but a tool that we could all afford."

"My family in the audience, let me see the Transsion phones in your hands."

Immediately, there was a flurry of movement as people took out their phones. Then, the phones turned into flags, and combined with their cheers, they twinkled there like stars.

"Today! We have brought everyone a brand-new gift, a Smartphone era that belongs to Africa."

After finishing the opening emotional rendering activity, Mr. Adebayo's voice shifted to a relaxed and passionate tone.

The four large characters for "Smartphone" also appeared on the screen.

Although the advertisements for the transsion s1 Smartphone had already covered all of Nigeria, many people still didn't understand Smartphones.

Mr. Adebayo pointed to those four large characters on the big screen on stage and introduced them seriously: "What is a Smartphone? How is it different from our mobile phones?"

Then he answered his own question: "That's right, when Transsion brought us specially customized products, other tech companies in the world threw us into a corner once again."

"Those Europeans and Americans are already using a brand-new product, the Smartphone. This is a new product that can connect to the internet, has no buttons, and can play videos."

"The experience looks good, but everyone doesn't need to be sad; their technology is not good, and as soon as you go to a remote place, the problem of having no signal will appear."

"But today, looking at the slogan on our big screen, you should be able to see that Transsion has also brought everyone a brand-new Smartphone."

A cheer that surpassed everything erupted at the venue again.

"Before the official introduction, I would like to ask a question first." Mr. Adebayo looked at the audience at the venue again, especially the guests in the front row.

"How many people have used a so-called Smartphone?"

In the front row guest seats, some people raised their hands sparsely. Staff members who were already prepared immediately went over to hand them a microphone.

"What do you think of it?"

And the lucky audience member who got the microphone immediately complained: "It's too expensive. It costs us at least 700 dollars to get one."

"The battery life is also trash; the battery only lasts half a day... The standby time can't compare to the Power Max at all."

"The photography level is also trash; it still can't beat Transsion."

"The network is also very mediocre; sometimes a call suddenly cuts off while you are talking."

Mr. Adebayo on stage immediately smiled: "Everyone please note, these are not actors we hired. I would like to ask, are these real problems that you have all encountered?"

"It's real." Those lucky audience members nodded frantically.

"Yes, those phones were not designed for us, so they have a series of problems." Mr. Adebayo walked back to the center of the stage again.

"They don't care that our network here is poor." Mr. Adebayo nodded and walked back to the center of the stage. "They don't care that we have frequent power outages here, they don't care that our skin color is darker... but today, everything will change."
