47: Chapter 47: Smartphone Prototype Completed

The current Taishan OS 1.5 version has already surpassed Android 1.5 and 2.0, and can even rival the 2.1 version they are currently developing, even exceeding it in certain aspects.

"How is the device adaptation coming along?" Shen Fei asked this important question.

"Currently, it perfectly adapts to all Transsion models on sale, from the T80 to the power max." Liu Zhihong replied.

However, these were all Feature phones, so the adaptation didn't require much technical expertise, nor could it demonstrate the true value of Taishan OS.

Just as Shen Fei was about to ask about the Smartphone platform, Liu Zhihong spoke up again:

"Currently, this version has also been adapted to the Smartphone platform on General Manager Chen's side, and General Manager Chen's feedback is very good.

In addition, we are also working on adaptation with the Huawei team, and General Manager Ren's feedback is very good. He said the system is much smoother than the Android they modified themselves."

Hearing that both sides had already entered the adaptation phase, Shen Fei set aside his worries.

Huawei's EMUI was basically indistinguishable from crap before Android 4.0. It seems that after the meeting ends, he still needs to give General Manager Ren a call and ask them to focus on optimizing the system...

But that was work for later. Shen Fei picked up the system introduction again.

The Taishan OS 1.5 version was essentially still a system based on a comprehensive transformation of open-source Android; it could not yet be called an independent operating system, so drastic reforms would still be needed in the future.

"What about the plans for the 2.0 version?"

"The goal of 2.0 is to replace 60% of the Android components." Liu Zhihong pulled up a roadmap. "Including the graphics rendering engine, network protocols, security frameworks... It is expected to be completed by September next year.

By then, it will become a truly independent and controllable operating system."

"That's fine. If you run short of money, go apply to General Manager Huang."

...

After that report concluded, just as Shen Fei returned to his office, Chen Hai excitedly knocked on the door and walked in.

"General Manager Shen, it's done!"

"What's done?"

"The Smartphone! Our first Smartphone engineering prototype is out."

A breakthrough in Smartphones—this was the future. Shen Fei hurriedly stood up abruptly.

Two pieces of good news in one day; this was simply...

"Let's go!"

The two walked quickly to the laboratory. Through the glass wall, they could see a dozen engineering prototypes placed inside, with engineers busily testing them.

Chen Hai swiped his card to enter and picked up a phone from the workbench.

This engineering prototype featured a dark gray integrated body and was equipped with a 5-inch screen. Compared to the small 3.5-inch screen on the iphone 3g, this screen was a full size larger.

The back had a matte texture, printed with the "TECNO" logo and the words "smart1".

The codename for the Smartphone project's engineering prototype was "smart," meaning intelligent, drawing a clear line from the Feature phones of the past.

"The exterior design was handled by the German team that General Manager Huang poached."

When Chen Hai said this, a flash of excitement crossed his eyes.

Those people's technical skills were indeed excellent, but they were all his employees. How could he have ever dared to imagine a life like this in the past?

"The overall design uses an all-metal integrated body, with the thinnest point being only 7.9 millimeters. It uses a 3000mAh battery, and because the battery is relatively heavy, the total weight comes to 156 grams.

The screen is 4.5 inches with a resolution of 480 * 320. The supplier is Dongfang Factory. The screen quality is quite average, but it's enough for users in Africa."

Shen Fei took the phone.

Although this phone wasn't as good as the ones he built in his later life, it was still quite good for this era. At the very least, it felt comfortable in the hand and was solidly built, certainly not losing to the Samsung and HTC of the same period.

As for Apple... one could only say that he was reborn a little too late; otherwise, there would be no place for Steve Jobs.

"Power it on."

Shen Fei gently pressed the power button, and the screen lit up. The startup interface for Taishan OS 1.5 appeared—not the standard Android system, but a clean silhouette of a mountain peak, with the artistic characters for Taishan OS below it.

The startup time ultimately settled at 35 seconds.

This result pleasantly surprised Shen Fei. One had to know that for Android 1.5 of the same period, combined with relatively lackluster processors, booting up was a grueling battle.

Being able to break into 40 seconds was already a miracle; it generally hovered between 60 to 80 seconds.

That's right! Early Android was indeed quite lackluster, completely unable to compare with iOS. If phone manufacturers pulled any more shady stunts, like adding more pre-installed apps...

...then 100 seconds wouldn't be anything unusual.

After entering the system, Shen Fei swiped the screen. Smooth, extremely smooth.

Of course, this comparison was against current Android; compared to iOS, it wasn't quite there yet.

The application icons were redesigned with a rounded rectangle style, with bright, pleasing colors. Currently, it had built-in simple features like Transsion's Tpay, offline maps, and weather.

Shen Fei swiped for a while but lost much interest; after all, the software ecosystem on this phone was still too sparse, and as for games, there were none at all.

Fortunately, he had already instructed Huang Tianya to support relevant enterprises in Africa, and he heard that the initial versions were already in development.

In addition, the PopCap team in the United States had also entered the late-stage testing phase for the classic game plants vs. zombies.

Because of the full acquisition by Huaxin Investment, the first release platform for this game would have one more addition—the Taishan OS platform.

Currently, Shen Fei had also given them a new task: to develop another classic game, Fruit Ninja. When both major games were released together, they could officially enter the domestic market.

"What about the hardware configuration?"

"It's the MediaTek 6573 enhanced version. The original frequency was 650, but after strengthening, it reached 750MHz, with a certain performance upgrade.

These engineering machines are all top-tier configurations.

The RAM is 512MB, storage is 16GB, but it supports memory expansion up to 32GB.

The camera is also the one with the highest megapixels we have used so far, 2 megapixels, using the latest version of the algorithm."

Shen Fei picked up the phone and took a picture of Chen Hai standing next to him. The preview image was clear, the autofocus speed was decent, and the color reproduction was very accurate.

"What about battery life?"

"It uses the 3000mAh high-density large battery newly produced by our China Star battery factory. With normal use, it lasts two and a half days, which is absolutely excellent battery life among Smartphones."

Chen Hai said proudly; when he tested it initially, he had worn an expression of astonishment.

One had to know the battery life of the iphone 3g...

After asking these questions, Shen Fei tested it again in detail. The browser loaded web pages quickly, and video playback was also quite smooth.

This strengthened chip completely eliminated the problems MediaTek had with video encoding and decoding... It seemed that this strengthening center had other functions besides critical hits.

Game ecosystem... no problem, Huaxin Investment has money.

The Penguin of the future! Yes, Penguin; now seems to be the best investment opportunity. If that doesn't work, then he would just build a Penguin himself.

But these were tasks for later; he just needed to tell Huang Tianya later. The most important thing now was the Smartphone launch. After suppressing this thought, he hurriedly asked:

"What is the current production capacity?"
