132: Chapter 131 Not that kind of hunger

Many people came to this opening ceremony.

People from political circles, business circles, and some faces Su Bai didn't recognize—probably guests invited by Shen Tian to bolster the event.

In the hall, glasses clinked, and suits and evening gowns swayed under the lights. Su Bai stood in a corner, holding a glass of champagne, occasionally greeting people.

Not many people recognized him, and he didn't take the initiative to talk to anyone.

When someone came over to toast, he would nod, clink glasses, and the other person would tactfully walk away.

After being busy all morning, he felt a bit hungry.

The cold food area was on the east side of the first-floor hall. A long table covered with a white tablecloth was filled with various snacks and fruits.

Su Bai grabbed a plate, picked up a few sandwiches, some ham, a small dish of salad, and a glass of orange juice, then stood by the table to eat.

He ate quickly; the sandwiches were gone in two bites, the ham was rolled up and stuffed into his mouth, and the salad was finished in a few mouthfuls.

Just as he stuffed the last piece of sandwich into his mouth, a hand reached out from behind and covered his eyes.

The palm was small, the fingers were cool, and the fingertips carried the faint scent of hand cream.

Su Bai didn't move.

He swallowed the sandwich in his mouth and took a sip of orange juice.

"Guess who I am?" The voice behind him was lowered, full of amusement, with an upturned inflection, like a mischievous kitten teasing him.

Su Bai wasn't too surprised.

He had just met Mayor Xin, who had come with his wife. They chatted for a while, asked about the project's situation, and exchanged some pleasantries.

Since the Mayor was here, it was normal for his daughter to tag along for fun.

Su Bai put down his orange juice, turned around, looked at the person in front of him, and raised an eyebrow in feigned surprise.

"Xin Yaoqiao? What a coincidence, you're here to play too?"

Xin Yaoqiao was wearing pigtails today. Her black hair was divided into two strands, tied with white ribbons, and draped over her chest.

She wore a white shirt, a navy blue blazer over it, and a gray pleated skirt that ended just above her knees.

On her legs were thin white stockings that shimmered slightly under the lights, and on her feet were white sneakers.

This outfit was out of place among the suited men and jewelry-clad women, but she didn't care, and no one dared to say anything to her.

Because she was Mayor Xin's daughter.

Xin Yaoqiao let go, put her hands behind her back, and tilted her head to look at him.

Her pigtails swayed with her movement, and the ribbons traced a white arc in the air.

"I was about to ask you, why are you here?"

Su Bai picked up the plate, wiped the last bit of salad dressing clean with a slice of ham, and stuffed it into his mouth.

"Me? I'm here to mooch a meal."

Xin Yaoqiao pursed her lips, her expression seeming to say, "Who are you trying to fool?"

"Then I'm here to mooch a meal too." Her tone was righteous, as if she were talking about something honorable.

She leaned in closer, lowered her voice, and looked mysterious.

"I know a place that has lots of delicious food. Come with me."

Su Bai thought to himself, It's my own place, how come I don't know about it?

But Xin Yaoqiao had already taken his hand and started walking out.

Her hands were small with slender fingers, and she held his hand tightly.

Su Bai was being pulled through the crowd, and when they passed Shen Tian, she was holding a glass of wine and talking to a middle-aged man in a suit.

She saw Su Bai being pulled away by a girl with pigtails in a JK uniform and cast an inquisitive look.

As if asking: What's going on?

Su Bai shook his head at her slightly.

Meaning: It's nothing, don't worry about it.

Shen Tian withdrew her gaze and continued talking to the middle-aged man.

But a faint smile curled at the corner of her lips.

She thought, As expected of the boss, even the daughter of the city's second-in-command can be won over.

She raised her glass, took a sip of champagne, and that smile still lingered on her lips.

Xin Yaoqiao pulled Su Bai through the hall, walked down a corridor, turned two corners, and arrived at an empty room.

She pushed the door open, walked in, let go of Su Bai's hand, stood in the center of the room, opened her arms, and spun around.

Her pleated skirt fluttered up like a blooming flower.

The white stockings shimmered softly in the sunlight, and the white sneakers made soft sounds on the floor.

"Where's the delicious food?" Su Bai looked around the empty room.

There were no tables, no chairs, no food, nothing at all.

Xin Yaoqiao stopped, faced him, put her hands behind her back, tilted her head, and smiled.

"It's right in front of you."

Su Bai looked at her.

Her pigtails hung over her chest, the white ribbons reflecting the light. The top two buttons of her white shirt were open, revealing a glimpse of her collarbone.

The hem of her pleated skirt was just above her knees, and below were her calves wrapped in white stockings, slender and straight.

The toes of her white sneakers were round, like two little white buns.

Fair and tender, truly a feast for the eyes.

Su Bai laughed helplessly.

"Big sister, I'm really hungry, not that kind of hungry."

Xin Yaoqiao blinked, as if she didn't understand, or as if she understood but was pretending not to.

She walked up to him, looked up at him, her pigtails hanging by her shoulders, the ribbons brushing against his arm.

"Then when are you that kind of hungry?"

Su Bai looked at her and didn't speak.

Xin Yaoqiao waited for a while but didn't get an answer.

She pouted and tugged on his sleeve.

"Forget it if you don't want to, I'll take you to eat. I know a good place here with delicious food."

She pulled him out again, but this time not towards the hall, but upstairs.

Su Bai was pulled up the stairs, through a corridor, to a door.

Xin Yaoqiao pushed the door open. Inside was a private dining room, not large, with only a few tables, but it was exquisitely decorated.

Sunlight shone in through the window, falling onto the white tablecloth.

Several dishes were set on the table, still steaming as if freshly made.

Xin Yaoqiao sat down at a table and patted the seat next to her.

"Sit. I told the kitchen to make this."

Su Bai looked at her, dumbfounded.

"When did you tell them?"

"Don't worry about it."

Xin Yaoqiao picked up her chopsticks, picked up a piece of lamb chop, put it in her mouth, chewed, and narrowed her eyes.

"Hmm, delicious."

Su Bai sat down next to her.

Xin Yaoqiao picked up another piece and said while chewing, "Su Bai, what kind of person are you, really?"

Su Bai ate his food.

"A student."

Xin Yaoqiao glanced at him, her eyes saying, "Who are you trying to kid?"

The two of them ate for a while, and the dishes on the table were almost finished.

Xin Yaoqiao put down her chopsticks, leaned back in her chair, and rubbed her stomach.

"I'm full," she said.

Su Bai also put down his chopsticks.

"Then let's go."

Xin Yaoqiao didn't move.

She sat in the chair, looking at Su Bai, her pigtails hanging over her chest, the white ribbons reflecting the sunlight.

The collar of her white shirt was open, revealing her collarbone, shallow like two crescent moons.

"Su Bai."

"Hmm."

"You said earlier that you weren't that kind of hungry, so... when are you that kind of hungry?"

Su Bai looked at her.

Her eyes were bright, reflecting the sunlight from outside the window, the empty plates on the table, and him.

He looked at her for two seconds, then stood up.

"Let's go, your dad must be looking for you."
