18: The warlord's broken teeth
Under the cover of night, within the Evil Beastman camp.
"Lord Warlord, three of the teams that went out of the camp to hunt for food have not returned. Something must have happened."
An Evil Beastman Warrior, who had recently been promoted to Commander, looked cautiously at the tall figure sitting on the high platform.
"Useless garbage!"
A roar shook the Evil Orc Commander below the platform, causing his body to tremble.
Broken Fang casually tossed aside the bloody chunk of meat in his hand and slowly stood up. His massive frame, over three meters tall, carried a heavy sense of oppression.
"Since they haven't returned, they must be dead out there. It's normal to be killed in the Black Forest. Forget about those useless wastes and tell me about the situation with the humans. Is there any movement from the blood-food we drove over there?"
"Has that human army actually left or not?"
Broken Fang didn't care at all about the subordinates who hadn't returned; most were just War Slaves, and if they died, they died. As long as he and his personal guards were fine, it was enough. What he cared about most now was the human territory outside the Black Forest.
"Those magical beasts could return at any time. We must leave this forest before the high-level magical beasts come back."
"The Great Father God is still waiting for us to offer sacrifices. I need human flesh sacrifices—large quantities of human flesh and souls. This is Father God's favorite food; only a massive amount of human blood-food can please Father God."
Broken Fang hissed, the red light in his eyes growing more intense. He now wanted to slaughter and devour more lives to offer to the Great Father God in exchange for his favor.
"Lord Warlord, there is no news yet from the blood-food we drove over, but I have already sent a squad to the human territory to check the situation."
"Perhaps they will bring back news tomorrow!"
Just as the Commander finished speaking, he felt a suffocating pressure wash over him. Looking up, he found that Broken Fang was already standing right in front of him.
"If there is no news tomorrow, you will go and see for yourself. Personally!"
"The army led by Lord Blood Flame is currently attacking the human fortress. That human army will definitely not stay for long; they will surely return to guard their fortress. They won't stay."
"They won't stay!"
Broken Fang's powerful aura made it hard for him to breathe, and he could only nod frantically.
"Yes, Lord Warlord!"
"If there is still no news tomorrow, I will go personally. I will definitely bring you good news."
"Get out!"
With a furious shout from Broken Fang, the Evil Orc Commander hurriedly left.
Stopping his roaring, Broken Fang suddenly turned his head toward a patch of shadow below the platform and spoke:
"Stalker!"
A dark red figure slowly emerged from the shadows.
"If there is still no news tomorrow, follow behind him and see what the humans are up to together."
The dark red figure gave a slight nod and then vanished back into the shadows.
Having arranged everything, Broken Fang turned and returned to the high platform.
A blood-red statue emitting a faint crimson glow stood there. The statue was about a meter tall, looking exceptionally small, like a toy in front of Broken Fang, but he did not dare to show the slightest disrespect. He cast aside his previous arrogant expression and prostrated himself piously before the statue.
"Great and invincible Father God, the radiance of the Blood Moon shall shine upon all living beings."
"All spirits perish, the Blood Moon endures forever!"
After Broken Fang's continuous kneeling and prayers, a beam of blood-light separated from the statue and shone upon his tall body. At the same time, the pile of flesh and blood next to the statue rapidly diminished.
As the blood-light shone, Broken Fang felt the power within him constantly increasing, and his heart grew more and more excited.
"In the past, only Blood-Robed Priests could enjoy the glory of Father God. I didn't expect that I could now enjoy it directly as well."
Broken Fang was not a mindless low-level War Slave; he had his own thoughts. He thirsted to devour flesh and even more so for the attention of the Great Father God. To this end, he constantly slaughtered and devoured, offering fresh flesh of living beings to Father God.
But in the past, the flesh offered could only be given to a Blood-Robed Priest, who would then hold a sacrificial ceremony to offer it to the Great Father God.
Father God's glory would only shine upon the Blood-Robed Priests. As the direct contributor, he could only obtain some Blood Essence Stones or Blood Soul Stones. Although they were delicious, how could even the most delicious thing compare to being directly shone upon by Father God's glory?
Moreover, in the past, no matter how many living beings' flesh he contributed, he would only receive a tiny reward, while the vast majority of the rest would be taken by the Blood-Robed Priest.
But it was different now!
Broken Fang looked excitedly at the statue before him. Every time he faced Father God's statue directly, he trembled all over with excitement.
Ten days ago, while fleeing after being defeated by the human army, Broken Fang had obtained this statue of Father God by chance from the corpse of a Blood-Robed Priest.
After escaping into the Black Forest, Broken Fang immediately performed a sacrificial prayer. He hadn't expected to actually receive a response from Father God and enjoy the radiance of Father God's glory.
Because of this, he had advanced from Silver Initial Rank to Silver Mid-rank, and Broken Fang had also received part of a secret legacy, becoming an Evil Beastman Warlord.
At the same time, many Fel Orcs scattered throughout the Black Forest were attracted by the statue and gathered under Broken Fang's command.
Broken Fang looked at the statue with reverence; it was his master, his everything, and he was willing to give everything for it.
"Father God's warning is growing stronger. It seems those high-level magical beasts are about to return from the depths of the forest. I must leave here as soon as possible."
Broken Fang wanted to leave this area now, but the terrifying strength of the human powerhouses ten days ago made him afraid to act rashly.
"Wait a few more days. By then, I must leave no matter what."
Broken Fang continued to kneel before the statue and pray incessantly, but because the flesh sacrifices had been exhausted, the blood-light on the statue had dimmed.
"All spirits perish, the Blood Moon endures forever."
Low prayers echoed on the empty high platform.
The silvery-white moonlight shone over the entire Black Forest. Under the silver moon, the Black Forest had an indescribable silent beauty, but beneath this beautiful scene lurked deadly danger.
Various predators slaughtered and hunted under the moonlight until dawn.
"Lord Lord, why does there seem to be no movement in the Evil Beastman camp?"
Ross had been staring at the Evil Beastman camp for a long time. From before dawn until now when the sun was high, the Fel Orcs had neither gone out hunting like yesterday nor shown any other reactive behavior, as if the four hundred Fel Orcs who vanished yesterday had never existed in the camp.
"No movement means the Fel Orcs have already noticed something was wrong yesterday. Since not a single team has gone out by now, it looks like we'll have no harvest today."
Renn looked at the silent Evil Beastman camp.
"Keep staring here. If there's still no movement by nightfall, we'll withdraw!"
"Yes, Lord Lord!"
Time flew by, and it was soon afternoon.
"Lord Lord, still no movement. It seems the Fel Orcs won't dare to come out again in the short term."
Eric sat beside Renn, his face covered in dirt and his hair full of dust. Originally wearing grey battle armor, he now looked like a mud man, with only his teeth showing white when he spoke.
Including Renn, the others were the same—not a single one was clean. Having stayed in the Black Forest for two days, fought three battles, and being unable to clean themselves, they all smelled a bit.
However, Renn and the others had long since grown accustomed to it and showed no reaction.
Seeing no movement in the Evil Beastman camp, Renn still felt somewhat unwilling. The strength of the Evil Beastman camp was still a bit too much, and without seeing the commander of this group of Fel Orcs, he still felt a bit uncertain.
"Lord Lord, look! There's movement!"
Ross, who had been watching, suddenly noticed movement in the Evil Beastman camp.
A team of Fel Orcs was assembling, and then this team marched out of the camp.
"There's quite a lot of them, maybe three or four hundred?"
"That's almost half of the remaining Fel Orcs in the camp."
Renn calculated the number of Fel Orcs.
"If we annihilate this group of Fel Orcs, the threat from the remaining ones will be much lower."
"Everyone, follow them!"
Once the Evil Beastman team had completely left the camp, Renn immediately led his men to follow. If they could wipe out this team, more than half of the Evil Beastman threat would be resolved.
On the way while tracking, Renn observed carefully and discovered that there was likely a Silver Rank Commander in the Evil Beastman team.
The size of a Silver Rank Evil Orc Commander was significantly larger than that of ordinary Fel Orcs, and their equipment was much more refined, making them easy to distinguish within the team.
Within the strictly hierarchical Fel Orcs, the strong had larger bodies and better equipment. Fel Orcs would display their power without any concealment, which was why Renn could quickly distinguish their combat strength.
"Over three hundred, nearly four hundred Fel Orcs, one Silver Rank, three Bronze Ranks, dozens of Black Iron Ranks, and the rest are all Evil Beastman War Slaves. A head-on fight will be somewhat difficult!"
Comparing the combat strength of both sides, Renn felt the pressure.
Among the opponents this time was a Silver Rank Evil Orc Commander, which made up for the opponent's lack of high-end combat power. For the remaining combat strength, the Fel Orcs could basically suppress the small team Renn led.
This time, Renn could not maintain enough of a strength advantage to suppress the opponent.
"This is a bit tricky!"
While following the Evil Beastman team, Renn tried to think of a way to devour this team before him.
"Are they going outside the Black Forest?"
Looking at the direction the Evil Beastman team was heading, it was exactly the path Renn had come from.
"Are they going to enter the Red River Territory via the wilderness?"
After following for a while longer, Renn was certain that this Evil Beastman team intended to leave the Black Forest.
"I have a way!"
Realizing the Fel Orcs's goal, Renn immediately had an idea.
"Alger, come here."
Renn called Alger to his side and explained his plan to him.
"Good, I understand, Lord Lord!" Alger nodded solemnly after hearing Renn's arrangements.
Renn gave Alger his instructions, then led the team members to accelerate from the other side, circling ahead of the Evil Beastman team and exiting the Black Forest first.
