44: Nest core
Inside the spatial ring, various items were neatly organized into categories. Renn only needed to focus his mental energy on a specific item for its information to be imprinted in his mind.
First, the most eye-catching items were three chests of gold coins.
Three large chests filled to the brim with gold coins occupied Renn's field of vision.
None of the three chests holding the gold coins had lids; the coins were piled so high that they seemed ready to spill over at any moment. The golden luster made it impossible for Renn to look away.
“Sixty-three thousand gold coins!”
There was no need for a manual count; after his mental energy swept over them, the number of gold coins appeared in Renn's mind.
These three chests of gold coins alone were worth more than five years of the Red River Territory's total income at its peak.
Next to the three chests of gold coins was an iron box filled with magic cores, including one hundred Black Iron Rank magic cores, ten Bronze Rank magic cores, and one Silver Rank magic core.
magic cores of different attributes emitted various glows, making the chest of cores look colorful and extremely brilliant.
magic cores could be directly absorbed by Professionals to increase their strength or used to craft various magical equipment. This chest of magic cores was naturally worth a fortune; Renn estimated it to be worth twenty to thirty thousand gold coins.
Looking further to the side, a chest of magic stones appeared before Renn's eyes, containing exactly two hundred magic stones.
“magic stones!”
Renn took one out and held it in his hand to examine it; the white magic stone emitted a faint, divine aura.
The effects of magic stones were similar to magic cores. The difference was that magic cores were obtained by hunting magical beasts, while magic stones were dug out of the ground by mining Magic Stone Veins.
magic cores contained corresponding magical power based on the different attributes of the magical beast itself.
In contrast, magic stones contained a universal type of magic energy that was slightly different from attribute-based magic power.
The magic energy within magic stones generally had no special attributes; only a very small number of Magic Stone Veins would mutate due to external factors, giving birth to attribute magic stones.
Because the magic energy was universal, magic stones had a wider range of uses, while magic cores were superior in the application of their corresponding attributes.
magic stones not only had wide applications but also came from fixed veins, so their production was relatively stable. Therefore, they were often used as a form of currency for bartering.
In the kingdom, besides copper, silver, and gold coins, a higher-level currency was the magic stone coin. magic stone coins were made by crafting magic stones into units of equal size, becoming a special currency.
magic stone coins were high-end currency. Ordinary people might not even use a gold coin in their entire lives, let alone a magic stone coin.
According to the memories in Renn's mind, magic stones were divided into white and cyan based on the concentration of magic energy they contained. One white magic stone coin was worth one hundred gold coins, while cyan magic stone coins were higher grade, with one worth one thousand gold coins.
The chest of magic stones Renn obtained contained two hundred white magic stone coins, which converted to twenty thousand gold coins.
In fact, the exchange rate for magic stones to gold coins was slightly higher, because Magic Stone Veins were much rarer than gold mines.
Under normal circumstances, no one would exchange magic stones for gold coins. Instead, magic stone coins were used to purchase magical equipment, magic potions, Breathing Techniques, and other transcendent items.
The shining gold coins, brilliant magic cores, and the divine aura of the magic stones had captured all of Renn's attention. It was only after he finished examining these chests of treasures that he noticed a small box placed in the middle of them.
The box was very exquisite, not even one-tenth the size of the iron chest for gold coins next to it. It also lacked any dazzling light, so Renn hadn't noticed it immediately.
“What good thing is this, placed so centrally?”
Renn took the small box out of the spatial ring and opened it, finding only two fist-sized black spheres inside. He couldn't see anything unusual about them.
When Renn touched them with his hand, a stream of information was transmitted from the black spheres into his head.
“Ancient Relics? lair core? farmstead?”
“This thing is the legendary lair core?”
Renn had only heard of Ancient Relic lair cores but had never seen one.
No one could say for sure how many civilizations existed in the history of the Noah Continent. Since the human empire, Tamriel, collapsed three thousand years ago, the history prior to the empire had been lost—at least, Renn didn't know it.
Ancient Relic was a general term for the precious treasures left behind by civilizations before the human empire.
lair cores were rumored to be products of the gods from the Mythical Era. By using a lair core to create a corresponding lair building, unique Lair Creatures could be produced.
Lair Creatures were diverse and varied, categorized into combat-type Lair Creatures and auxiliary-type Lair Creatures based on their functions.
Renn felt that this thing was like cloned organisms—an otherworldly version of biotechnology.
Renn had only heard about lair cores and Lair Creatures at the Knight Academy. The Derrick Family did not possess a lair core; in fact, there hadn't been a single lair core in the entire Red River Valley before.
Every lair core that appeared in the world would be sought after by high-ranking nobles by any means necessary; minor nobles simply had no chance of holding onto one.
What Renn now held in his hands were two farmstead lair cores. By using the cores and investing some construction resources, he could manifest the lair building—the farmstead.
According to the information transmitted to Renn by the lair core, a completed farmstead could produce ten Farmers every week. As a cost, meat resources had to be invested into the farmstead for each production; one Farmer required one hundred pounds of meat resources.
“In other words, if I invest two thousand pounds of flesh every week, the two farmsteads will produce 20 Farmers for me every week.”
“Feels pretty good, even more advanced and easier to use than cloning.”
Renn repeatedly examined these two legendary lair cores. Based on the effects alone, these two farmstead cores weren't incredibly powerful; they were just okay. A population of 20 a week meant only about a thousand people a year, which wasn't that impressive.
If the effects weren't that outstanding, Renn almost wanted to sell these two cores. He knew that Rage Bear Fortress had a standing offer to buy all types of lair cores, with a minimum price starting at ten thousand gold coins and no upper limit.
This meant these two lair cores were worth at least twenty thousand gold coins.
“No wonder ordinary people and minor nobles can't keep lair cores. The effects aren't that great, so it's more practical to exchange them for gold coins.”
“I'll head back and try them out first. If they don't work out, I'll think about selling them later!”
After putting away the lair cores, Renn urgently checked the remaining items in the spatial ring.
Besides the gold coins, magic cores, magic stones, and lair cores, there was also a batch of Enchanted Equipment and magic potions in the spatial ring. A bookshelf was placed in the corner, filled with magic books, and next to the bookshelf was a pile of personal miscellaneous items.
Renn took inventory and found that the Enchanted Equipment included 100 longswords, 50 longbows, and 50 shields. Most valuable of all were 5 sets of rare enchanted full-body plate armor.
The chest containing magic potions held 100 bottles of low-grade recovery potions, 20 bottles of mid-grade recovery potions, 5 bottles of high-grade recovery potions, and dozens of bottles of various auxiliary potions for enhancing magic power.
The bookshelf holding magic books contained over a hundred books on various magic skills, most of which were about ice-based magic skills, along with some miscellaneous books.
Renn was initially excited and happy to see this wealth, but he sobered up quite a bit when he saw those five sets of enchanted full-body armor and the bookshelf holding the magic books.
“The family crest of the Cold Wind Family?”
Looking at the ice-patterned high tower design drawn on the armor and the decorations on those dozens of ice magic books, Renn immediately recognized their origin.
The ice-blue emblem exuded a chilling coldness!
