230: Curious Kudla
Three months had passed since the assassination of the Grand Duke of the Raging Bear.
Entering late December, the year 1240 of the golden calendar was coming to an end.
During these three months, although undercurrents surged in the Rage Bear Territory and the entire Northern Border, the surface remained calm.
The kingdom's campaign against the Assassins Court was in full swing, and Reyn also conducted a review of his own territory.
Reyn thought there wouldn't be any issues within the Red River Territory, but the inspection revealed some problems after all; they weren't related to the assassins from the Assassins Court, but were more difficult challenges.
Through the screening, Reyn discovered that among the Slaves purchased for the territory, there were actually several Chaos Believers. This discovery surprised him and made him take the screening of the territory's new population more seriously.
Both Reyn and Dora had the talent to detect chaotic evil. For the safety of the territory, he took Dora and thoroughly inspected the territory inside and out, clearing out all discovered chaos corruption and Chaos Believers.
Only after a complete patrol of the territory and confirming there were no other traces of corruption did Reyn breathe a sigh of relief and return to Red River Fortress.
While Reyn took advantage of the winter to familiarize himself with his Legendary power to improve his own strength and strengthen the construction of the territory, a new piece of news arrived.
The day before yesterday, Reyn suddenly received news from the War Ancient Tree Ivern and the Shadow Guards in succession.
A team of dwarves had entered the Black Corridor without warning. This dwarf team attempted to cross the Black Corridor from west to east, and their speed was very fast as they traveled day and night.
The sudden appearance of the dwarves caught Reyn's attention, especially after the news from the War Ancient Tree Ivern told him that the leader of the dwarf team was a Legendary Expert. Reyn immediately set off to meet this dwarf Legend.
To be safe, Reyn also brought Anatolis. Dora followed along to look after the Treant Clan. In addition, Reyn brought the Frostfang Legion.
As it turned out, just as Reyn arrived with the team, he saw not only the dwarves but also a new, unexpected discovery.
Two Legendary Fallen Ones who believed in Chaos, along with a large number of Chaos Demons and Fallen Corrupters, were besieging the group of dwarves within his territory.
Reyn was now extremely sensitive to matters related to the Chaos Demon Abyss. Upon seeing these Fallen Ones and demons, he acted quickly without a second thought, eliminating them with thunderous force.
Not a single Chaos force escaped, including the two Legendary Fallen Ones. After eliminating them, Dora also thoroughly purified the battlefield, removing all traces of chaos corruption.
"Lord Reyn, I did not know this was already your territory. According to the information I had before, this should still be unclaimed land. I am deeply sorry for trespassing without your consent, and I can pay corresponding compensation."
Facing Reyn, Kudla's tone was sincere and his attitude was cooperative.
"That's not the answer I want, Lord Kudla. I want to ask about the origins of these Chaos Believers. If I'm not mistaken, this Fallen One should also be a dwarf!"
Kudla looked at his uncle's deformed corpse and remained silent for a moment before explaining the reason.
"Yes, Lord Reyn. He is of my kin, and he was my biological uncle, but he has now fallen."
"Lord Reyn may not be aware, but there are currently many believers of the Lord of the Devious Path, the Chaos Demon God, active within Eight Peaks Mountain. They have bewitched a group of dwarves to serve them, which has thrown the interior of Eight Peaks Mountain into chaos."
"It was because I tried to purge these Chaos Demons and Fallen Ones that I was plotted against by them and forced to lead my followers to flee Eight Peaks Mountain."
Kudla looked dejectedly at his followers who had suffered heavy casualties. Many of them were good brothers who had fought alongside him for years, and some were his blood relatives and elders.
Many of these partners who supported him unconditionally had already died on the road of escape, and now the last of them had also suffered heavy losses. This made Kudla hate his own lack of strength to protect his partners and kin.
"Are you a member of the Star-Shattering Clan?"
Reyn looked at the star shatterer emblem on Kudla's rune armor, as well as the star shatterer insignias on the dwarves under him.
Kudla looked at Reyn seriously and said, "Yes, Kudla Star Shatterer, greetings, my lord. Thank you for your help; the scions of star shatterer will never forget your assistance."
"My name is Reyn Derrick. It's a pleasure to meet you, Lord Kudla. Since the misunderstanding has been resolved, the matter of your trespassing on my territory ends here."
"Although the alliance between the dwarves and the kingdom has been dissolved, as a former ally, I am willing to provide you with some assistance."
Reyn didn't ask further about the Dwarf Clans of Eight Peaks Mountain, and Kudla clearly didn't want to elaborate. After glancing at Kudla's clansmen behind him, who were in poor condition, Reyn suggested they return to the Red River Territory to recuperate for a while.
"Your companions have been somewhat severely eroded by the power of chaos corruption and need a period of rest. Dora and I have some experience in purifying chaos corruption. If you don't mind, you can go to my territory to recuperate for a while."
"Alright, thank you very much for your help, Lord Reyn."
Kudla agreed to Reyn's proposal immediately without even thinking.
As Reyn turned to leave, several of Kudla's followers immediately gathered around.
"Prince, didn't you say that humans are not to be trusted? Why should we go to this human's territory? What if something unexpected happens?"
Kudla glanced at Reyn's back and then at several of his clansmen.
"Didn't you feel it? That human has a trustworthy aura, the aura of nature. I didn't expect to feel such pure nature power in a human. The Will of the Earth and Mountains tells me he is trustworthy."
"And that one!"
Kudla turned his gaze toward Dora, who was purifying the chaos corruption.
"That should be a powerful Fairy, and a High-order Fairy with a very special bloodline, possessing special purification power. I didn't expect there to still be fairies with such power in the world."
"The corruption power in us has already penetrated deep into our flesh and blood. That lord's purification just now only cleared some of the corruption on our surface; the corruption inside our bodies still exists. If it isn't cleared as soon as possible, by the time we reach the High Rock Hills, we'll be crippled even if we don't die."
"I was originally worried about how to clear the corruption for you after reaching the High Rock Hills. As a Legend, I could spend some time clearing it myself, but you couldn't."
"Now that we've encountered a Legendary Expert who specializes in purification, we naturally cannot miss the chance."
"Besides, what else could go wrong now? With the strength of those individuals, if they wanted to do something, we couldn't resist anyway."
Kudla looked at Reyn and the accompanying Anatolis and Dora. He searched through all the information in his mind about the human Northern Kingdom many times but couldn't find a single piece of information about Reyn.
A powerful force with three Legendary Experts should not be unknown regardless of where they are. Kudla was extremely curious about this.
"It shouldn't be..."
"With such strength, one could become a Grand Duke of the human kingdom. How have I never heard of the name Reyn Derrick?"
