78: Godot's Prayer

Half a month ago, Clarkson was in a very cheerful mood.

His Knight Commander, Joey, had brought him the head of a powerful Ogre Chieftain—a fine trophy, enough to proclaim the Blackstone Family's might to the populace.

What made him even happier was that the Alien Tribes, driven north, had begun invading the Red River Territory. Joey reported that the young Baron in the north was personally leading the Red River Territory's Guard Army in a frantic effort to clear out the invading Alien Tribes.

A few days later, Joey brought even better news: the northern Alien Tribes had suddenly united, forming an Allied Army of Tens of Thousands of Aliens ready to invade the Red River Territory.

An Allied Army of Tens of Thousands of Aliens would require serious preparation even from the Blackstone Territory, and Clarkson believed that given the Red River Territory's current strength, facing an Allied Army of this size would result only in annihilation.

Clarkson hadn't expected a small, casual maneuver of his to create such a huge reaction. The Red River Territory was going to perish sooner than he anticipated, and he had already made preparations for a celebration.

But now, everything had changed.

"Why?"

A roar echoed within Blackstone Fortress.

"Why did it turn out like this?"

"Damn the Wild Wolf!"

Clarkson violently smashed the wine glass in his hand. Expensive fine wine spilled everywhere, filling the room with a strong aroma.

Looking at the intense fire far away that illuminated half the sky, Clarkson's mood was utterly terrible.

All the important figures of the Blackstone Territory were currently standing behind Clarkson, looking at the changes in the sky with complicated expressions.

"To think he used fire! That little brat is far more cunning than his brainless father, even thinking of using fire to attack the Allied Army of Aliens."

"How is the fire now? Can it be controlled?"

Ralph, the Administrator of the Blackstone Territory, stepped forward to reply.

"My Lord, the fire is still dozens of kilometers away from the nearest village in the territory, but at its current rate of spread, it will soon affect the territory's villages."

"I have already organized manpower to evacuate the residents of some northern villages and attempted to control the blaze."

"However, the results are very poor. Over a dozen people died fighting the fire, and the blaze is completely uncontrollable. The dry weeds ignite instantly, and coupled with the strong wind, this fire is beyond human control."

"But My Lord, you needn't worry. The territory's Militia, along with the Serfs, have already dug a Firebreak north of Blackstone Fortress. The fire certainly won't spread near the fortress."

Ralph had tried his best to minimize losses, but he had no good solution against a raging wildfire.

"Useless!"

Clarkson swept everything placed on the table to the side.

"All of you are useless!"

"That little brat from the Red River Territory used a single fire to deal with those alien idiots, and now he's thrown us into chaos."

"Yet none of you guys have a single solution! What does the family feed you for?"

Clarkson's mood was incomparably foul. He couldn't understand why, when success was just one step away, that brat Ryan managed to turn the tables.

Not only did he turn the tables, but Ryan also counter-attacked.

It was currently harvest season, and the crops in the fields were being cut. Clarkson knew without a doubt that this massive fire would cause him significant losses.

Ralph and the others bowed their heads in silence. No one had expected Ryan in the north to pull off such a move.

"Fine, now get out!"

"Solve that damned fire for me! Don't worry about how many Serfs die; we stole plenty back from the Red River Territory, so use them when needed!"

Clarkson roared furiously:

"If that fire reaches Blackstone Fortress, I'll throw all of you into the damned flames."

"Yes, My Lord!"

Coming out of the room, everyone let out a sigh of relief.

"My Lord is extremely angry!"

"Of course. He suffered a loss at the hands of the Wild Wolf Family, after all."

"The Derrick Family only has one person left alive, yet they can still cause so much trouble. They truly aren't peaceful!"

"This new Wild Wolf Baron seems difficult to handle. It looks like we'll have our hands full from now on."

Behind Ralph, the Treasurer, Tax Officer, and Commander of the Guard Army of the Blackstone Territory were discussing amongst themselves.

Ralph, feeling annoyed, ignored them and hurried away from Blackstone Fortress, rushing toward the front lines of the fire fighting effort.

Outside the northern border of the Blackstone Territory, Godo was resting by a pond with over a thousand Kobolds.

"Master is truly amazing. A single massive fire burned all those guys to death, reducing tens of thousands of troops to ashes."

Thinking of the sky-high Fire Dragon and the overwhelming blaze from not long ago, Godo trembled internally.

The Goblin Prophet, whom he viewed as an absolute VIP, was cut to shreds by his Master, Ryan. Tens of thousands of troops, a sight he had never witnessed in his life, were swallowed by the sea of fire in the blink of an eye.

Godo previously thought Ryan was the Master of Magic Wolves, but now Ryan had acquired another title: Master of Flames.

The Kobolds around Godo who had witnessed Ryan's power held even deeper awe and respect for him.

At that moment, a voice suddenly interrupted Godo.

"Kobolds, I didn't expect you to find such a good spot. Do you Kobolds possess this kind of talent?"

Four Hands walked out from the shadows. He had followed Godo the entire way and only revealed himself after squatting nearby for a while to ensure safety.

"It's you?"

"That strange human!"

"What do you want?"

Godo had seen Four Hands inside the Goblin Prophet's main tent and recognized him immediately.

"Kobolds can also ride Magic Wolves? How strange!"

Four Hands didn't respond to Godo. Instead, he looked with great interest at the Magic Wolf beside Godo, as well as the hundred or so Kobold Wolf Knights among the Kobolds.

Four Hands knew that Gnolls had the ability to ride Dire Wolves, but having roamed the wilderness for so long, this was the first time he had seen Kobolds capable of riding Dire Wolves.

After Four Hands appeared, his subordinates quietly surrounded the Kobolds.

Over a hundred people surrounding more than a thousand Kobolds might sound incredible, but Four Hands' subordinates were much stronger than the Kobolds. A hundred people could easily crush over a thousand Kobolds.

"Tell me, how did you tame these Wasteland Wolves?"

"And your Magic Wolf mount—how did you tame it?"

Four Hands could tell that the group of Kobolds before him was strange, but he didn't care. He was currently more interested in knowing how the Kobolds managed to tame the Wasteland Wolves.

If he could Master this Secret Technique, it wouldn't be long before he could become a Magic Wolf Knight, and his subordinates could all become Wolf Knights.

If his wish came true, Four Hands could fare much better in the wilderness, maybe even seize a territory and declare himself king. That wasn't impossible!

Thinking of this, Four Hands' heart burned with excitement. He was tired of being chased around like a dog.

He had just personally experienced the strength of the Magic Wolf Knights; those Magic Wolf Knights from the Red River Territory had shocked Four Hands deeply.

"This is a special Secret Technique of our Kobold race. You humans can't learn it, so give up!"

The moment Godo finished speaking, the extra pair of arms on the back of Four Hands' body violently hurled a Javelin toward the area behind Godo. The Javelin pierced through the bodies of three Kobolds before embedding itself firmly in the ground.

"Don't give me this useless nonsense. You answer what This Lord asks."

"If you don't talk, I'll keep killing the Kobolds behind you. If I kill them all and you still won't talk, I'll kill you!"

"Kobold!"

Four Hands stared fiercely at Godo, as if he were about to devour him the next second.

The Kobolds, frightened by Four Hands, clustered together.

Four Hands was a Silver Rank Powerhouse, and most of his hundred-plus subordinates were Professionals, far stronger than the Kobolds led by Godo.

Facing Four Hands' threat, Godo, who was only at Bronze Initial Rank, had no recourse. He could only gather his clansmen together to prepare for battle, while secretly sending out a few Wasteland Wolves to seek help from his Master, Ryan.

Godo secretly prayed in his heart.

"Great Master, please save your poor servant!"
