72: A kobold slave
September, the month of harvest, is also the favorite month of the people of the Kingdom of Asriel.
During this month, most of the kingdom's subjects have the chance to enjoy a hearty meal and the joy of the harvest.
But for the North, harvest is often accompanied by bloody slaughter; the Alien Tribes in the wilderness prefer to gain without labor, and the humans' ripening fields are the prey they covet.
At the entrance of the Red River Valley, on the weed-covered wasteland, the corpses of the Alien Tribes lay scattered across the ground.
“Be sure to collect the fresh blood; the magic wolf grass in the territory needs to be watered with this blood to thrive.”
Ryan was commanding his men to clean up the battlefield.
Just now, he had led the army of the Red River Territory to crush a large Goblin tribe.
One or two thousand Goblins were killed on the spot, while many more scattered into the vast wilderness, vanishing into the weeds in the blink of an eye.
Watching the Goblins fleeing southward, Ryan did not pursue them further.
“Damn, Viscount Black Stone really has a knack for being disgusting!”
Ryan had been out with his team for three days. Along the way, he received constant reports from Ross; the frequency of Alien Tribes appearing was steadily increasing.
Ryan had already handed over the fifty newly added cavalrymen to Ross's command. One hundred cavalrymen and ten Magic Wolf Knights were constantly patrolling the southern part of the territory.
Ryan and Wayne were ready to provide support at any moment.
Yesterday, he had received news from Ross about the appearance of a large Goblin tribe. This was the first large Alien Tribe to invade the territory, and the strength of the Cavalry Squad led by Ross alone was not enough to defeat this opponent.
Ryan arrived with a hundred-man infantry squad and joined forces with Ross to completely crush the enemy.
The Goblin Chieftain, who had one foot in the Silver Rank, had his head cut off by Ryan, and his corpse was then devoured clean in a few bites by Reck.
Through these invading Alien Tribes, Ryan quickly thought of the Blackstone Territory to the south.
Usually, during the harvest season, Alien Tribes would eye the territory, but it was impossible for it to be so frequent, and for them to come from such a consistent direction.
Since they were all coming from the south, it could only be the Blackstone Territory in the south playing tricks.
Looking at the Goblin corpses covering the ground, Ryan pondered how to deal with the subsequent harassment from the Alien Tribes.
Ordinary Alien Tribes in the wilderness posed little threat to Ryan, but they were a significant threat to the crops in the fields and the ordinary subjects.
Furthermore, these Alien Tribes could not be completely eradicated; finding and killing all the stragglers who escaped into the wilderness after being defeated was like looking for a needle in a haystack.
It would be very annoying if these scattered Alien Tribes sneaked into the fields outside Red River Town to cause destruction.
One cannot guard against a thief forever; the best way was to solve the Alien Tribe problem completely, but the power in Ryan's hands was not yet enough to thoroughly deal with these locusts of the wilderness.
Suddenly, Ryan thought of an idea.
“Ross, gather up all this scrap metal from the Goblins, along with the ones from before. Pick out some usable ones for me; I have a use for them.”
The weapons held by Alien Tribes like Goblins were just junk; for some, it would be a waste of energy even to melt them down, as they had no value.
Ryan had now suddenly thought of a way to put this waste to use.
After putting a batch of Alien Tribe equipment into his spatial ring, Ryan summoned all the Magic Wolf Knights.
“Wayne, you will temporarily lead the team to continue clearing out these invading Alien Tribes. Ross and I are going out for a bit.”
“Yes, My Lord!”
Ryan then left the team with the Magic Wolf Knights.
Half a day later, Ryan and the others arrived at the Quarry of the Red River Territory.
“My Lord, are we here to see those Kobolds?”
Ross looked at the familiar place; this was exactly where he had previously settled the Kobolds.
“Yes.”
“Reck!”
Ryan called out, and Reck immediately threw back his head and let out a long howl, the sound instantly spreading throughout the Quarry.
Ryan waited outside the Quarry.
Before long, he found his target.
“I didn't expect them not to run away. That makes things easier!”
Seeing the Kobolds running out quickly, Ryan immediately finalized his plan in his mind.
“Greetings, Master!”
Over a hundred Kobolds swarmed out and knelt before Ryan.
Seeing that the leader of the Kobolds had been replaced by a young one, Ryan asked:
“The numbers have decreased quite a bit. It seems some Kobolds fled. Why didn't you?”
“Where is your leader, the old Kobold?”
The current leader of the Kobolds, Sharp Fang, began to explain in fear and trepidation.
“Great Master, Old Iron Fang led a portion of the tribesmen away because he was afraid the Master's magic wolf would eat him. I am the new leader, Sharp Fang.”
“Sharp Fang?”
Ryan looked at Sharp Fang kneeling before him, becoming interested in this young Kobold.
“Interesting. That old fellow ran away, yet you, a little guy, stayed. Tell me, why did you stay?”
Sharp Fang tried his best to suppress his fear and said as loudly as possible:
“Because you are strong. Only by attaching ourselves to the strong can we live better.”
“Sharp Fang is willing to submit to the Master, to submit to the great Lord of Magic Wolves!”
After Sharp Fang finished, there was a sudden silence all around, without a single sound.
After an unknown amount of time, while Sharp Fang was feeling uneasy, a voice came from above its head.
“Raise your head!”
Sharp Fang froze for a moment, then endured the fear in its heart and slowly raised its head.
A giant white wolf filled Sharp Fang's entire field of vision.
The white wolf's cold eyes made Sharp Fang's heart tremble, making it want to prostrate itself immediately, but it held back. Slowly raising its head further, it saw its future master.
Ryan, sitting steadily atop the white wolf, looked down at the interesting Kobold before him.
“Not bad!”
“You have made the right choice. I grant your request; from today on, you are my Slave, a Slave belonging to me, Ryan.”
“From now on, your name is Godo—Sharp Fang Godo.”
Hearing Ryan's words, Sharp Fang knelt on the ground in pleasant surprise.
“Godo has a name! Thank you, Master, for the name. Sharp Fang has a name!”
Ryan took out the magic potion, warriors blood.
Although Godo was the leader of these Kobolds, his strength was only at the Black Iron Rank.
Among these Kobolds, there were only three or four Black Iron Rank Kobold warriors; the rest were all ordinary Kobolds. This level of strength was far from enough to complete the plan Ryan had in mind.
“Godo, you are too weak as my Slave. This is the magic potion, warriors blood. Drink it to increase your strength.”
Looking at the magic potion Ryan threw to him, Godo did not hesitate and quickly gulped it down.
The effects of the warriors blood manifested immediately, and Godo's body began to be strengthened.
The powerful energy of the magic potion caused Godo to fall to the ground groaning in pain, but his originally thin body became strong at a speed visible to the naked eye.
The other Kobolds nearby were all dumbfounded as they watched Godo's transformation.
Soon, as the energy of the magic potion was fully consumed, Godo's strengthening concluded.
Godo, who was originally at the middle stage of the Black Iron Rank, had now risen a level to the high stage of the Black Iron Rank.
“It directly raised him by a level; the effect seems quite good.”
Seeing Godo grow from 1.5 meters to 1.6 meters and his strength increase by a level, Ryan was quite satisfied with the effect of the warriors blood.
This was the first time this magic potion had been tested since it was made. It hadn't been tried before, and because materials were limited, Cecilia hadn't made any more since then.
“Thank you for the reward, Master!”
Feeling the increased power within his body, Godo knelt and prostrated himself before Ryan.
With a wave of his hand, Ryan took out the weapons and equipment of the Goblins and other Alien Tribes stored in his spatial ring.
Seeing a pile of weapons appear out of thin eye, Godo and the other Kobolds were startled.
Seeing that it was Ryan's doing, Godo's admiration for Ryan rose another level.
“Have your tribesmen take these weapons. Don't mine here for the time being; I need you to do some other things for me.”
“Yes, my Master!”
