105: Chapter 105 Things God Cannot Do

...

Lin Fang felt a bit of regret.

Wasn't burning, killing, and looting supposed to be the work of subordinates? Why was he, a perfectly good behind-the-scenes boss, acting so confused as to accompany a bunch of Clones on an underwater swim just on a whim?

A remote video call would have achieved the same result.

To make matters worse, he had encountered a pack of ferocious sharks mid-swim; they were quite a nuisance.

Sigh—

But since he was already here, he might as well have dinner; after all, the ingredients in this manor were quite plentiful.

"Boss, your shark fin," a fully armed member of the H.D.S. Forces said, serving Lin Fang a bowl of steaming shark fin soup.

Watching the H.D.S. soldier walk away without a backward glance after completing the order, and then looking at the other Clones eating their meals with mechanical precision, Lin Fang sighed again. This was how they differed from normal people.

They were humanoid weapons, it was true.

Yet right now, not a single one of them had thought to bring a soup spoon to the boss they were sworn to protect with their lives.

Their cooking skills also needed improvement.

Reaching out to take a spoon from a nearby H.D.S. soldier, Lin Fang stirred the soup and took a couple of bites before concluding that only the top-tier ingredients had saved the dish.

A tactical error; he should have cut off the fins from that pack of sharks to dry and eat later.

"Mr. Noah, won't you have some? Don't be polite, make yourself at home."

Lin Fang spoke to the old man who had just woken up while eating. Fearing the man wouldn't be able to chew, he even thoughtfully drizzled milk over the bread in front of him.

"Who... who are you?"

Noah asked the question burning in his mind. He was old and no longer cared about death, but he wondered how the Sackler Family had provoked such an enemy.

If a family banquet had been held on this island today, the Sackler Family could have been easily annihilated given the opponent's methods.

Lin Fang put down his spoon, his tone turning sinister.

"It seems you really are getting old, Noah. Just three days ago, you were looking at my file. Take another look."

"How is this possible..." The old man, whose lower body had no sensation, widened his eyes as he finally saw the young man's face clearly. He remembered now; this young man's file had once been on his grandson Jost's desk. Having been secretly monitoring Jost, Noah had naturally seen the file.

At the time, he had also been stunned by the wealth Metabolix Capsules could bring; it was exactly what the Sacklers needed.

"You are Lin Fang..."

That Central Continent entrepreneur.

Noah tried hard to recall the file. The young man before him looked exactly like the photo, but the difference was that he wasn't nearly as simple as the file suggested.

He was a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Clap, clap, clap, clap—

Lin Fang clapped and smiled. "I heard you spend nearly ten million dollars every month to maintain your brain. It seems the results are good. Lumbar punctures aren't pleasant; it must be hard on you."

"Old geezer."

Lin Fang's smile remained unchanged, as if those vulgar words hadn't just come out of his mouth.

A study in a sub-journal found that the growth factor FGF17 in the cerebrospinal fluid of young mice could significantly improve the cognitive function of elderly mice. The paper also hinted at the potential to extend life.

At that time, Noah had just celebrated his 100th birthday. Before this, he had invested in no fewer than ten life-extending technologies, hoping for progress.

But reality was cruel.

Most of these had failed; some institutions had even taken the money and fled abroad, never to be seen again.

That was when Noah discovered the paper. This study on FGF17 was like a glimmer of light shining into the cracks of a life already soaked in despair. He immediately invested hundreds of millions of dollars to set up a dedicated laboratory and invited the author of the paper to serve him.

Hearing Lin Fang's words, Noah's expression changed drastically. He looked at Lin Fang in disbelief—not because of the insult, but because of the information he had revealed. How did this man from the Central Continent know!

Not even Noah's children knew what the old man was doing every month. Even when Noah suddenly became paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair, they only assumed it was due to his advanced age.

They didn't know it was because of the excessive number of injections, which had caused irreversible necrosis of the nerves in his lower spinal column.

But the upside was that Noah still possessed a clear mind.

A wily old fox who had lived for over a century after all, Noah quickly suppressed his shock. His raspy voice held a hint of mockery. "Many people are doing it; I am just one of them. There's nothing wrong with it. Compared to these things, their parents prefer the money."

"They enjoy my money to have more children. Isn't that a good thing?"

Lin Fang nodded in agreement. "Mhm, everyone gets what they need. That makes sense."

Villains weren't necessarily rich, but the rich were certainly villains. He wasn't the world's policeman, so why bother with all that? Besides, was he any better?

Hmm...

Lin Fang immediately began to recite the Code of Conduct for Modern Youth in his mind.

Looking at his great-grandson Elias struggling on the pillar, Noah's mouth twitched as he suppressed his unease. "It was our mistake to offend you. On behalf of the Sackler Family, I apologize. As compensation, I am willing to pay you two billion dollars. Please, let this child go."

As for the fate of the others in the manor, Noah looked at this force armed to the teeth. Some of them were covered in blood; the situation was clearly grim.

Even if Noah was mentally prepared, he was still chilled by their ruthlessness. A service team of nearly two hundred people had died on this island; otherwise, where would all this blood have come from?

"Everyone has to pay for their actions. It seems Mr. Noah cares deeply for his great-grandson."

There was a playful glint in Lin Fang's eyes. He changed the subject and chuckled, "But two billion in compensation is too little. I want more."

"How much do you want?" Noah's heart skipped a beat.

"Not much," Lin Fang stood up and looked down at the old man, speaking slowly. "I want you and the entire Sackler Family to be my slaves from now on."

"That's absolutely impossible!" Noah's face turned pale. He retorted almost the instant Lin Fang finished speaking, his voice filled with anger.

"Even if you kill us, it won't happen. The Sackler Family will not be controlled by anyone."

Lin Fang's expression remained unchanged:

"Nothing is impossible. Isn't that what you used to say when you were young? Your talent built the glory of the Sackler Family, and you even wanted to extend it further."

"But now you're dying, and you can't even stand up."

As he spoke, Lin Fang moved behind Noah and slowly pushed the wheelchair carrying the old man. The near-death Noah didn't even have the strength to resist.

He could only let Lin Fang push him toward the floor-to-ceiling window. The scenery was beautiful; Noah saw the last glimmer of twilight outside.

"Don't you often pray for God's mercy?"

Lin Fang's voice was seductive as he leaned close to Noah's ear. "The things that God cannot do, I can."
