152: Chapter 152 Erasing Memories
Yan Wei-geng followed the man named Zhou Hui outside. During their walk, Yan Wei-geng voiced the doubt in his heart.
"Who are you people?"
"We belong to the Third-Party Technology Company," Zhou Hui replied without concealment.
Yan Wei-geng was slightly stunned, his brows furrowing subconsciously. Third-Party Technology? He had never heard this name in any top academic journals, tech news, or important conferences.
Could an organization capable of producing such advanced data really be a nobody?
Yan Wei-geng shook his head, indicating he hadn't heard of them.
"Give me your phone."
Zhou Hui took Yan Wei-geng's phone, tapped the screen a few times, and handed it back. "See? This is our company's official website. It's perfectly legitimate."
Yan Wei-geng looked down and saw a well-designed corporate website. The minimalist logo was a planetary semi-ellipse surrounded by diagonal stripes in dark green, blue, and red; the overall interface was grand and comfortable.
The homepage was divided into two major sections: Biopharmaceuticals and Infotainment. These two unrelated fields were listed side-by-side without appearing jarring; instead, they exuded an indescribable sense of harmony.
Yan Wei-geng clicked into the entertainment section and found that the number of projects this company covered was staggering. Music, film, television, and browsers were all there; they even provided logistics information services.
It was somewhat ordinary, yet also utterly absurd...
Yan Wei-geng looked up at Zhou Hui and the surrounding heavily armed guards. The cold, tempered aura of slaughter emanating from them made it impossible for Yan Wei-geng to believe this was just an ordinary technology company.
When Yan Wei-geng clicked into the Biopharmaceuticals section and saw the anti-cancer drugs that had already entered the application stage, he realized he had misremembered—he had heard someone mention this company before.
Solving the problem of cancer was shocking no matter where it happened. It was just that Yan Wei-geng had been focused on the tasks assigned to him by the PDA at the time, so he had ignored the company's name and hadn't looked into it.
Looking at it now, this company was hidden very deeply.
Rumble—
The storm outside grew more intense. Occasional flashes of lightning illuminated the island base; no one in the outside world knew what was happening here.
"Whoever you are, you'd better leave quickly!"
An elderly man around sixty years old panicked upon seeing the Clone Soldiers appearing at the door. He immediately shouted loudly, trying to draw attention to the room.
Oliver could not understand who on earth would dare to so brazenly infiltrate a PDA base supported by several major powers. This was no different from provoking several great nations at once!
He swore to God that no force in the world would dare to do such a thing.
Oliver had been fast asleep when the piercing sound from his computer woke him. That unknown force had extended an invitation to Oliver and offered many unbelievable conditions.
But as an old scholar, Oliver didn't believe those words and scoffed at the data appearing on the screen. After shouting a rebuke, he disconnected the power, even planning to report the matter to the security department first thing the next morning.
However, Oliver never expected that the other party's people would appear before his eyes less than five minutes after his refusal.
The Clone Soldier at the door turned a deaf ear to Oliver's warning. Those eyes, devoid of any emotional fluctuation, locked onto him as the soldier pulled out a pre-prepared Neuralyzer.
To maintain secrecy, those who did not agree to join the company needed to have their memories wiped.
"What do you want to do? Someone, help! Help!" Oliver became even more nervous as he saw the man approaching step by step with a strange metal rod in his hand, until he had backed all the way to his bedside.
The Clone Soldier pressed the button.
Click!
Like the flash of a camera,
A cluster of extremely blinding white light lit up at the tip of the silver metal rod for just a brief moment.
Oliver's expression became blank. His memories began to collapse like a sandcastle; the anger in his heart and the scene before him quickly became blurred and distant, finally returning to a complete void.
After completing the task, the Clone Soldier closed the door and headed to the next target.
The same thing was happening repeatedly across these dormitory buildings. Meanwhile, the researchers willing to join Third-Party were led away from the buildings.
The Neuralyzers in the hands of these Clone Soldiers were naturally purchased by Lin Fang from Black Star, originating from the movie "Men in Black."
Unlike the scenes in the movie, the Clone Soldiers were not wearing sunglasses to prevent radiation. The reason was simple: these Clones were not controlled by biological brains but by Hades Chips, which would not be affected.
After obtaining the Neuralyzers,
Lin Fang had researched them. The core of human memory formation is the creation and strengthening of synaptic connections by brain neurons; the Neuralyzer emits a special band of radiation with a very short wavelength.
This radiation is highly targeted, capable of precisely destroying newly formed neural synapses in the brain. This duration can reach up to three years—meaning it can wipe memories from within the last three years.
Exceeding this time frame would cause very serious damage to the brain, potentially even turning the person into an idiot.
The shorter the duration, the less damage to the brain. This was likely why in the movie, after Agent J was flashed many times by Agent K, Agent J could still ask K why he hadn't wiped his memory.
—
"Are you wiping their memories?"
Yan Wei-geng couldn't help but ask in shock after seeing what they were doing to his colleagues.
"Professor Yan, don't worry. It's normal for the company to have some security measures. Compared to more extreme methods of handling things, this is already the greatest kindness we can show."
Zhou Hui's pace didn't falter; he merely turned his head to answer. Yan Wei-geng felt a chill rise up his spine. Wiping a person's memory was a method he had only ever seen in science fiction concepts.
After the two of them went downstairs,
Zhou Hui brought Yan Wei-geng to the pier. A large group of people had already gathered there. Aside from the Clone Soldiers executing the mission, they were all researchers who intended to join Third-Party Technology.
Under this rainstorm, any amount of cover was useless. Everyone stood in the rain, receiving nature's 'care'.
Some tried to question the expressionless Clones, but without exception, they remained silent beyond a cold "Wait for instructions."
How did this organization train its soldiers? It was simply terrifying!
In the crowd, the bearded Valerian wiped the rain from his face and couldn't help but think that even though his own country was known as a warrior nation, he had never seen such highly disciplined soldiers who seemed to have no individual will.
They were efficient, cold, and made one's skin crawl.
Valerian didn't actually care much about that. What he cared about was whether that photo was real—was there really such a massive and spectacular Schwarzschild Channel in the world?
And what lay on the other side of the channel?
Thinking of this, the astrophysicist's body trembled.
