273: Chapter 273 Tyrant
Outside the Mist, a female reporter in a helicopter was passionately describing the magnificence and mystery of the Wall of Osialia.
On the ground, a temporary media zone had been set up, filled with cameras and microphones. The logos of major news agencies shone brightly under the floodlights as reporters, using various tones, transmitted the latest news about this place to the World.
Just then.
Rumble—!!
A violent explosion erupted from deep within the Mist, startling everyone. Before they could understand what had happened, a shockwave surged out from the Mist.
The shockwave was so powerful that it caused the helicopter in the air to shake violently. The female reporter screamed as she was thrown back into the cabin. The sunshades in the ground media zone were ripped away in swathes, signs clattered to the ground, equipment swayed unsteadily, and papers and various debris flew everywhere.
The billions of viewers watching the live broadcast were not much better off.
"What was that sound?!"
"Is it an explosion? Are they fighting inside?!"
"The Mist must be God's punishment upon that city."
"..."
The helicopter in the air finally managed to stabilize. The female reporter steadied herself; her face had gone pale, and her voice was no longer as smooth as before: "Dear viewers... just now, we all heard a tremendous sound coming from the Mist. It is currently unclear exactly what happened, but there is no doubt that the situation inside the wall may be far more complex than we imagined..."
Bang—several more violent explosions erupted from the Mist. The female reporter, disregarding her supervisor's orders and her own image, screamed at the pilot to get away from this dangerous place immediately.
The media reporters on the ground were equally panicked, fleeing in disarray.
Around the Mist, reconnaissance and search-and-rescue teams from other countries also heard the commotion. After exchanging glances, they had no choice but to grip their weapons tightly and steel themselves to enter this mysterious zone.
The situation was becoming increasingly chaotic.
Three hours later, Lin Fang received the data brought back by the U.S.S. forces, which consisted mostly of combat footage.
In the footage, the bomb thrown by the enemy before they died had tremendous power, directly leveling the surrounding luxury estate. The iconic, opulent main residence in the center of the grounds, along with the exquisite gardens and auxiliary buildings... everything that had once existed had vanished, turned into a deep crater.
Facing this violent explosion, the protagonist of the first-person perspective did not die, but let out a painful wail.
Through its perspective, one could see four other massive figures walking out from the fire and ruins. The heavy composite armor covering their bodies was now tattered and torn, with large chunks missing.
Their flesh had been roasted.
As they moved, fragments of armor fell off piece by piece, carrying bits of flesh and tissue, stretching out many long, thin threads and revealing the even brighter red tissue underneath.
Despite being so severely injured, these Tyrants were still stubbornly alive. They looked with cruel, bloodthirsty eyes at the figures emerging from the eerie Mist; this was the enemy's reinforcement unit.
The men in the front were horrified to see the Tyrants still on the field.
"Captain, Cook and the others are all dead."
"Fuck, what kind of monsters are these? They're still alive."
"Eliminate them!"
Several grenades arched from the reinforcement unit, falling toward the five battered Tyrants.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!"
The fire and shrapnel of the explosions once again engulfed the area. However, as the smoke and dust cleared slightly, a heart-stopping scene appeared.
The five Tyrants had still not fallen!
The missing-limbed Tyrants stared at them, their eyes filled with pure desire for destruction.
At this moment, a dense barrage of bullets appeared from behind the Tyrants—it was the U.S.S. forces!
Several members, under cover, quickly approached the weakened Tyrants. With swift movements and tacit coordination, they slammed the thick syringes in their hands into the Tyrants' bodies, forcibly injecting a full liter of green biological nutrient solution into them.
When the Tyrants' bodily functions were failing, these nutrient solutions were life-saving medicine.
After the nutrient solution was injected, a bloodthirsty red light seemed to flash in the Tyrants' eyes. Their faces showed expressions of pain, pleasure, and a roar, and their bodies trembled violently.
"Roar!!"
The charred, necrotic skin and muscle tissue on the Tyrants' bodies cracked, revealing the frantically writhing, proliferating New Life tissue underneath! At the wounds where they had been blown apart, granulation tissue and blood vessels intertwined at a terrifying, visible speed.
Its height increased by nearly half a meter in seconds, and its body size surged synchronously. All the armor fragments on its body fell off, and sharp claws suddenly appeared.
In this state, the Tyrants' speed and strength increased several times over; the entire process was so fast it seemed to violate biology.
The transformed Tyrants, like cannonballs fired from a barrel, lunged at the enemy with speed and a ferocity far exceeding before...
A brutal local battle began, and the screen went black during the fight.
This Tyrant eventually sacrificed itself heroically.
Lin Fang frowned as he finished reviewing the data. Although they had eventually repelled the enemy, the U.S.S. forces had also suffered heavy losses, and none of the five Tyrants that had fought alongside them survived.
The Mist actually led to the Alien World.
On the screen, there was a very obvious yellow text logo on the corpse's clothing: WEYLAND.
Verland Company!
Lin Fang's expression became grave.
The enemy's equipment was much better than his side's. In this local skirmish, it was clear that they were all equipped with some kind of individual stealth device.
The U.S.S. had found two relatively intact sets of equipment on their corpses. One set had already been sent back to the Black Watch Base for analysis; after all, Isaac and his team were not good at these things.
The other set was now lying on the table in front of Lin Fang.
This was a matte-colored bodysuit that looked like a cloak, yet it did not reflect light. The texture to the touch was not that of fabric or conventional polymers, and at its damaged opening, one could see a large number of bio-electrode patches inside.
And antimatter bombs.
This was the first time Lin Fang had seen this kind of theoretical weapon. He hadn't even seen it in the technologically advanced World of the wandering earth, let alone the real Earth.
Theoretically, when one ten-thousandth of a gram of antiprotons annihilates with normal matter, the power released is comparable to a 4-ton yield micro-nuke.
If just one gram of antimatter annihilates with one gram of normal matter, the power is comparable to a high-yield nuclear bomb.
How could Verland Company have these things? This was no longer the Verland that Lin Fang was familiar with from movies.
Coupled with the other advanced weapons displayed by those personnel, Lin Fang immediately felt like cursing in his heart.
Hmm...
"Dear Verland."
"If I had known you were coming, I wouldn't have thrown rotten eggs. Is it still too late to make up?"
