358: Chapter 358 Jonathan Irons
"Sean, why did you suddenly stop reading? I didn't tell you to stop!"
While Lin Fang was grieving over his capture and the fact that the various planes had finally ushered in peace and tranquility, the door of the interrogation room opened, and a lean young man wearing glasses walked in, looking at him sternly.
Lin Fang recognized the newcomer; it was his adjutant, Ethan Corville.
It seemed that he was now like a tiger fallen on hard times.
Lin Fang's thoughts shifted slightly, and he already understood his situation. The question was, how did he, a brigade commander, get caught and become a prisoner?
"What should I be reading?" Lin Fang said indifferently.
These condescending and even somewhat contemptuous words infuriated Ethan. Did he still think he was that brigade commander? Now, he was just a prisoner stripped of his authority and confined here.
Ethan was about to lash out, but he was suddenly startled upon seeing the young man's eyes.
No!
This wasn't him. That mediocre Sean wouldn't have such a gaze. It was the demon Sean spoke of, the one occupying his body!
He was back!
A chill shot to the top of his head. Ethan took a small step back, then immediately forced himself to stand firm. He pushed up the glasses that had slipped down his nose and spoke in a deliberately raised voice: "Who exactly are you?"
Lin Fang looked at his blustering yet inwardly fearful appearance, his lips curling slightly:
"I have many titles. Some call me a savior, some call me a robber, a bandit, or a merchant. Some call me an angel, and others see me as a demon... I don't know what I'll be in the next second either."
The young man's tone was light, as if he were telling someone else's story. Yet, a single calm glance made Ethan's heart race, and his back was instantly drenched in cold sweat.
He had an illusion that even if the other's limbs were shackled, as long as this man wanted to, he could still easily snap his neck.
Ethan stumbled out of the interrogation room.
After a while, several footsteps were heard outside the interrogation room. A few stern-faced middle-aged men appeared at the door. Leading them were Hawke, the commander of the 1st Heavy Assault Division, and General McLaren, the deputy commander of the Argus Legion.
The two sat in front of Lin Fang. Hawke spoke first, his voice filled with military solemnity. "Where are you from? Why did you infiltrate Argus Base in this manner? You have only three minutes to explain, or you will be executed on the spot."
"Giving me three minutes? You're too kind, Commander," Lin Fang looked at him and said. "Before I answer that, you tell me first: how did you find me?"
Hawke frowned. "You have no right to ask questions."
"Then I won't answer either," Lin Fang said, acting as if he didn't care what they did.
Hawke and General McLaren exchanged a look. Hawke spoke slowly, and Lin Fang learned why he had been caught. Simply put, he had gotten carried away while possessing Sean, and his adjutant Ethan had noticed something was off.
Afterward, Sean was brought here for interrogation. Under pressure, he spilled everything he knew, and thus Argus Base learned of Lin Fang's existence.
Since they didn't know when Lin Fang would arrive, they had Sean read the Jushen Company's regulations here all day, so they would know the moment Lin Fang arrived.
"Your turn. What are your intentions?" General McLaren asked coldly.
"Intentions?"
Lin Fang showed no embarrassment at being a prisoner and answered honestly, "Sir, I have no hidden intentions. I just came to this world to take a look and pick up a few things to take back when I have the chance."
"What do you mean?"
Hawke's expression tightened. "Could it be that you stole the equipment my division lost? How did you do it?"
"It's simple, just like this..."
Lin Fang sneered. The entire space distorted slightly. The walls of the interrogation room, the metal tables and chairs, and even the floor beneath their feet were taken away by a mighty force. The entire interrogation room vanished instantly, leaving behind exceptionally smooth edges.
Hawke, General McLaren, and the others lost their footing and fell flat on their faces, completely exposed in the base's open corridor. The surrounding patrolling soldiers turned in unison, staring dumbfounded at this bizarre scene.
"Enemy attack!" someone realized and shouted.
Lin Fang had just stood up and rubbed his wrists when an energy bullet hit his chest. A large hole suddenly appeared in the young man's chest.
The one who fired was Ethan, who was tremblingly holding his pistol. Just as he thought the demon was surely dead, a scene that terrified him unfolded.
From that hideous wound, not a single drop of blood flowed. Instead, a thick, ink-like substance quickly seeped out. As if possessing a consciousness of its own, it rapidly spread along the wound, entangling like countless hungry black pythons. In the blink of an eye, it completely engulfed the young man's form.
A monster over three meters tall stood imposing in the corridor.
It was a monster that only appeared in nightmares.
Huge white eye sockets without pupils, a maw that split all the way to the ears, and intersecting forest-white fangs—each one as sharp as a shark's tooth.
Venom stuck out its slimy tongue, as if tasting the deliciousness of this world's air.
"Hello, little insects. Start celebrating Lord Venom's arrival in this world."
"You just made me feel quite itchy," Venom said. A tentacle swept up Ethan's body in front of it. Under Ethan's terrified gaze, it opened its bloody maw and bit down.
"No—"
Ethan's scream had barely escaped his lips before it was cut short. Venom's massive mouth enveloped his small head along with half his shoulder.
Then came the sound of bones shattering. Venom tossed it aside casually, and the headless corpse hit the floor with a dull thud.
Everyone was stunned.
One by one, they raised their guns at Venom. A battle was about to break out. Just as Venom was prepared to go on a rampage, a voice suddenly boomed through the corridor, carrying the irresistible authority of a general. "Everyone, stop!"
It was General McLaren. His face was ashen as he looked at the corpse on the ground, and he glared unfavorably at the monster before him.
"Sir, regardless of where you come from, we do not wish to be your enemy. I hope we can talk."
"Why talk?"
Venom said curiously, its slimy tongue almost touching McLaren's face.
What kind of monster is this? A layer of fine cold sweat broke out on McLaren's forehead. But remembering the command that had just sounded in his ears, McLaren could only suppress his anger and say, "Sir, our boss wants to meet with you."
He didn't know why the company's top brass had suddenly issued this order, but it was one he could not disobey.
Lin Fang's figure reappeared in everyone's sight. The "boss" they mentioned, if he remembered correctly, was the founder of Jushen Company.
Jonathan Ains.
