62: Chapter 62 Resident Evil, The Final Chapter!
...
Alice is dead.
“I'm sorry, but you all have to die here!”
As the voice of that artificial idiot, the Red Queen, rang out, Alice—who had just stepped across the laboratory threshold—clutched her head and let out a cry of agony.
The pain pierced deep into her brain.
By the time Matt rushed to support her, Alice’s breath was already faint; she was on the verge of death.
The clone left behind her final words:
“Everyone, I see myself clearly now. It was a pleasure to meet you. Thank you, James...”
“You're welcome. I hope you have a pleasant dream.”
Lin Fang said as he held her hand. It was too late to do anything; he could only watch as the female lead made her exit.
Other than that, he didn't feel much of anything.
Pshhh—
This was the sound of the Hive Base's various airlocks opening. Matters were proceeding in the most intense direction possible. Dense footsteps were surging toward them; at the corner, Lin Fang already saw a bald zombie dragging a fire axe toward them.
In the next second, its head was blown apart by a shot from the vanguard, Jade Foul-smelling brain matter splattered across the floor. They all knew the zombies' weaknesses now; unlike in the movie, they weren't going to lose two people before things even started.
Emmm...
Though the protagonist was gone, at least the headcount remained the same, didn't it?
To deal with these clumsy zombies, Lin Fang didn't even need to act. The remaining three members of the U.S.S. Squad occupied advantageous terrain and could easily hold them back.
But there were too many of them, a never-ending stream.
Bullets were being consumed rapidly. Mangled flesh piled up at the two doorways to the point where the zombies coming after had to struggle through a wall of meat, only to be sent away by a bullet the moment they painstakingly poked their heads out.
The slaughter continued until dawn.
There were over 800 people in the Hive Base who had turned into zombies; now, roughly 600 lay dead before them. Coagulated blood submerged Lin Fang's heels.
“I'm down to half a magazine,”
Raine panted, her bangs matted together by blood and flesh. “Once I blow this dump to hell, I'm going to take a shower, and then I'm going to get laid.”
“Little J, what do you think?”
What answered for Jade was a roar echoing from within the zombie remains. Several tongues covered in disgusting barbs shot out from the pile of corpses. Their physical strength was so great that they instantly crushed the zombies in the corridor into a semi-liquid paste.
Five Lickers!
Lin Fang counted them. It wasn't too bad; there were just enough people in the room to provide them with a full meal if they were divided up.
But within seconds, more roars sounded behind them. A hunting legion composed of Lickers appeared in the corridor.
Without a word, the group poured their last bullets into the leading Lickers, splattering blood across their foreheads.
Yet they stubbornly withstood the damage and lunged toward the door!
Thud—!
Bang—!
After barely managing to shut the iron door, the entire laboratory teetered under the assault of the Licker legion. Seeing this, Raine braced her hands on her knees and shook her head helplessly. “Looks like it's time for our last words.”
The others were equally pale.
A girl's voice suddenly rang out from the speakers.
[The Hive Base is open. Isaac has released all 100 Lickers. You will all die underground.]
[There is nothing I can do.]
Lin Fang retracted his previous evaluation of the Red Queen. She wasn't an idiot; she was just a bit stiff.
The Lickers' sharp claws had already smashed through the 5cm thick reinforced glass. Heads uglier than Venom were struggling to poke inside.
“Not necessarily.”
Under their incredulous gazes, three items resembling T13 Parachute Packs appeared out of thin air in the hands of James—the commander they remembered as being strictly disciplined.
“Kaplan, Jade, catch! Put them on immediately.”
Lin Fang tossed two parachute packs toward the two of them. There weren't any more; he only had three parachutes in his warehouse.
“You two, hold onto them.”
Lin Fang estimated their current position was about 400 meters below the surface. It was a suitable distance to return to the light of day.
“NOW!”
[Spacetime Package Status: Full Load]
Just as the first Licker squeezed in and prepared to let out a cry, the morning sunlight shone into this one-kilometer deep pit at a speed of 3.0×10⁸ meters per second.
This allowed the group, currently 600 meters above the ground, to feel a long-lost warmth on their faces.
The Lickers nearby, currently performing doggy paddles in mid-air, seemed to think so too.
In reality, the record for low-altitude BASE jumping was 50 meters; now that the distance was ten times that... Lin Fang felt the problem wasn't significant.
Scattered flesh, roaring viral infections, countless plants, animals, and insects... combined with the group's piercing screams, they played a wonderful overture to their descent together!
Amidst the endless 'raindrops,' three parachutes blossomed almost simultaneously.
Whirrr—
With the guarantee of these zero-bad-review parachutes, Lin Fang wasn't worried about these 'raindrops.' Though they were a bit of a nuisance, they weren't fatal; surviving wouldn't be an issue.
Unless those four were extremely unlucky.
As their altitude dropped, Lin Fang looked at the surface, a hint of doubt rising in his heart. Did those high-ranking officials bury themselves this deep?
“NO! Commander, get out of the way!”
“Watch out!”
Amidst the horrified expressions of the other four, a 100-ton Orbital Tram instantly smashed into James's parachute, and they plummeted together.
And they were still over 200 meters from the ground.
...
...
At this moment, the outside world was incredibly chaotic. A late-night live stream had plunged the world into the haze of doomsday, causing a global uproar.
#T-Virus! Our world is in imminent danger#
#Forgiving them is God's business; our task is to send these demons who want to destroy humanity to meet Him#
#Spokesperson for *** demands the Americas disclose the facts of Raccoon City#
#The dead are rising—is it a nightmare or a rumor?#
#Unbelievable, it's the 21st century and people still want to destroy the world#
#The American government is delivering a major address#
The White House, the political center of the American nation. In the public's memory, it had never been as crowded as it was today. Tens of thousands of people packed the South Lawn so tightly that not a drop of water could trickle through.
Evan and his classmates were among them, holding up signs protesting the Umbrella Corporation; they needed the truth.
Amidst the anxious waiting of the crowd, President LK stepped onto the podium under the protection of Secret Service personnel. The normally cheerful president seemed somewhat fatigued today; he rubbed his brow and spoke solemnly into the microphone:
“The T-Virus exists.”
Whoosh—
President LK's first sentence sent the entire venue into a frenzy. The cacophony of noise pierced the air above the White House; no one wanted to turn into that horrific image from the live stream.
The same applied to people all over the world watching the broadcast.
“James is a hero of our Americas; he exposed all of this.”
“We have already obtained samples of the T-Virus. The military is surrounding Raccoon City. Everything is under the government's control; there is no need for excessive worry.”
President LK's words calmed the crowd's agitation, but just as he was about to continue, a staff member rushed up with a document, looking urgent.
What! The Hive Base has disappeared?
Just as President LK was about to inquire, a sharp pang came from behind. The intense pain made him instinctively clutch the back of his neck and cry out in agony.
Exclamations rose from the crowd.
“Mr. President, what's wrong?!”
Frank, the Director of the Secret Service, took two steps across to support him, only to see that President LK's eyes were now filled with eerie bloodshot veins, and his eyeballs had become murky and dull.
This appearance...
A massive sense of unease rose in Frank's heart. Just as he was about to draw his sidearm, a slight pain came from the back of his own neck, which then rapidly expanded.
Oh no, it was that hospital! Frank's consciousness immediately fell into chaos.
“Zombie!”
Seeing the horrific scene on stage, ear-splitting screams erupted from the crowd. Panic spread instantly like a surging tide.
That afternoon,
An urgent document was placed on the desk of the highest leader of the Central Continent: — The American high-level leadership has been completely wiped out.
