90: Chapter 90 550W Quantum Computer
...
After taking some time to handle the movie filming matters, Lin Fang immediately returned to the wandering earth plane. His body transformed from a young man capable of tearing apart tigers and leopards back into an old man.
Walking down the road, Lin Fang looked at his hands, lost in thought.
"Mr. Lin, the leader is waiting for you inside," said a square-faced, burly man as he helped Lin Fang to the door of the conference room.
"Sorry for the trouble."
Lin Fang leaned on a mahogany cane that someone had prepared for him and walked into the room. It was the same conference room as last time, but a new table had already been set up.
It seemed slightly better than his previous one.
That wasn't the point. Lin Fang saw Leader One sitting in a chair, writing some documents. It was a bit strange; facing a crowd felt fine to Lin Fang, but facing one person alone actually made him feel a bit apprehensive.
But on second thought, he currently had fewer teeth than the leader, and the discomfort instantly vanished.
Hearing the movement,
Leader One set the documents aside and looked at Lin Fang with a kindly expression. He said very gently, "I'll take the liberty of calling you Lin Fang to be more informal. How about a cup of tea?"
As he spoke, the old man stood up personally and picked up a cup from the tea tray.
Lin Fang: ...
Sure enough, compared to heart-to-heart talks, he preferred trading RPG fire with him.
...
Two days later, Lin Fang was appointed to an official position.
Minister of the National Resource Supervision Department—that was his title. As the name suggested, he had the power to supervise all resources within the Central Continent, including the final 'Kindling.'
To make it easier for him to embezzle... no, to exercise his authority, several subordinates were assigned to Lin Fang. The square-faced burly man from that day was one of them.
"Take whatever you want, we're not short of these things."
In his office, Lin Fang recalled Leader One's words and felt quite excited. He hadn't expected that within his lifetime, he would be able to rob legally.
Should he show some restraint?
"Minister, the items you requested are ready." When Zhang Fangzheng entered, he saw the old man with his legs crossed, and his mouth couldn't help but twitch. Who could imagine how much power he held?
"Then let's go quickly." Hearing his words, Lin Fang leaned on his cane and shakily hurried toward the door.
Zhang Fangzheng rushed forward to support him, lest his new boss accidentally fall to his death.
—
The supplies were over ten kilometers away from Lin Fang. An armed helicopter cut through the sky and landed on the open ground of a Research Institute. The airflow from the propellers sent the clothes and hair of the people waiting on the ground flying in a mess.
After Lin Fang was helped off the helicopter by Zhang Fangzheng, the people who had been waiting came forward to greet them.
"Minister Lin, welcome to the Qingtian Research Institute."
A middle-aged man leading the group stepped forward eagerly, while subtly sizing up the newcomer. In this environment, the establishment of a new department by the higher-ups was strange enough, but what was even stranger was that this supervision minister was an octogenarian who needed help just to walk.
What could someone this age even be after? Jiang Weimin couldn't help but wonder.
"Director Jiang, hello, hello." Lin Fang shook hands with him enthusiastically. On the way there, Zhang Fangzheng had already explained the general situation; this man was the primary contributor to the collection of technical data.
Thinking that he was about to obtain the scientific research data of the entire Central Continent on this plane, Lin Fang's expression toward this older man became even more amiable.
This made Jiang Weimin feel somewhat flattered; after all, this was a high-ranking leader.
The group arrived at the second floor of the Research Institute. After passing through an alloy door with retinal recognition, Lin Fang saw the target of his trip: a greyish-white 550W Quantum Computer. It wasn't large, roughly the size and style of an all-in-one printer, but it was the most advanced supercomputer Lin Fang had ever seen, far surpassing reality and the other two planes.
"Minister Lin, this is the 550W Quantum Computer, our institute's most significant scientific achievement! There are only two in the world; one is here, and the other has already been sent to the United Government."
Jiang Weimin stroked it and introduced it to Lin Fang with pride, "It is over ten thousand times more powerful than the previous generation, the 550C."
Lin Fang narrowed his eyes and asked, "Is all the data stored inside?"
"It's all in there!"
Jiang Weimin nodded, his tone filled with pride: "Minister Lin, all the scientific research data within the Central Continent, including the latest Planetary Engines, Heavy Fusion Technology, Quantum Communication Protocols, Digital Life Technology, and the Dungeon Ecological Cycle System data, are all backed up in this 550W."
"I want to thank the organization for its trust in the Qingtian Research Institute to store such important data here. Please rest assured, leader, we will definitely take good care of it!"
Jiang Weimin caught his breath and said with a smile, "As long as I am here, nothing will ever happen to it."
Looking at the impassioned Jiang Weimin, doubt rose in Lin Fang's heart, and he turned to look at the awkward-looking Zhang Fangzheng.
*Cough, cough.*
The latter coughed twice and stepped out from behind Lin Fang, his tone carrying a hint of embarrassment: "Director Jiang, it's like this—we are taking this 550W with us."
"Huh?" Jiang Weimin clearly hadn't reacted, responding with an expression of extreme shock: "Director Zhang, what are you saying?"
"We are taking this 550W with us," Zhang Fangzheng repeated.
He hadn't misheard.
Jiang Weimin's face instantly turned pale, and he instinctively blocked the front of the 550W, his voice trembling: "This... this is impossible! This is the lifeblood of the Research Institute! No one can take it without a formal document from the higher-ups—"
"Director Jiang," Zhang Fangzheng took out a document with a red official seal from his coat, his tone softening a notch, "the document is here, please take a look."
"The leadership said that time can be spent to build another one, and the state will give you full support."
Jiang Weimin took the document, his face flushing. He naturally knew the document couldn't be fake, so he could only hug his treasure and refuse to let go, saying like a protective parent, "I won't give it up. It doesn't matter who comes. I only want this one."
After speaking, he turned to Lin Fang: "Minister Lin, say something!"
"Sigh, Director Jiang, get up first."
Lin Fang sighed and walked up to Jiang Weimin with his cane. His fragile appearance made it seem as if he might collapse at any moment.
Jiang Weimin instinctively supported him, only to find this national minister tremblingly stretching out his left hand. What kind of hand was it? The part peeking out from the sleeve was skin and bones, looking not at all like someone living in luxury, but rather like someone who had suffered greatly. It made Jiang Weimin's heart ache, and his resistance softened slightly.
"Minister Lin, I..."
"I what? Hand it over!" Lin Fang stashed the 550W into his inventory as fast as lightning, then walked away without looking back, his pace brisk despite the cane.
Jiang Weimin was stunned.
What happened? What kind of trick was that? Where did my massive computer go?
Looking at the empty floor beside him, then at Lin Fang who was already several meters away, Jiang Weimin's face turned red and his whole body swayed.
Zhang Fangzheng hurriedly stepped forward to comfort him.
This man was a national treasure; nothing could be allowed to go wrong. So, Zhang Fangzheng whispered a few words from the leader into Jiang Weimin's ear. Hearing these words, Jiang Weimin looked at "Minister Lin's" back in astonishment.
Before long, his face regained its color.
