236: Chapter 236 Like a guiding light

Suddenly, gunfire erupted.

The moment Lin Fang broke free from the restraint, he had already pushed his bodily functions and combat instincts to their absolute limit.

He couldn't dodge them all!

Thus, Lin Fang made the most logical choice; he violently grabbed the police officer from before, shoved him forward, and then lunged to the side.

A series of dull thuds followed as bullets tore into flesh. The officer used as a shield didn't even have time to scream before being riddled with bullets.

Lin Fang held the pistol he had just swiped from that officer's waist. As he dove and rolled, he had already chambered a round and aimed. Without even fully standing up, relying solely on the enemy positions his peripheral vision had caught during the roll, he raised his hand toward the muzzle flashes and fired a rapid five-shot burst.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The gunshots were almost a continuous line! The precision was chillingly accurate!

The five leading police officers collapsed as the shots rang out.

"Xiao Fang, don't resist! Killing a police officer is a capital crime!" Lin Tianxiong roared from the side, filled with extreme anxiety.

But the young man before him acted as if he hadn't heard, his eyes focused entirely on the enemies in front of him. With a weapon in hand, he was like a tiger with wings, and in moments, he had killed the remaining seven officers one by one.

Lin Tianxiong looked as if he had seen a ghost.

He watched as Lin Fang finished clearing the battlefield and walked straight toward him.

"Xiao Fang, sigh, you shouldn't have done this. Let's go quickly, find a place to hide..." Lin Tianxiong's face was full of worry as he grabbed Lin Fang's hand to leave.

"As long as we aren't discovered, there's still a way to survive."

Lin Fang didn't budge. He just looked at this middle-aged man thoughtfully; he indeed looked exactly like his father.

Suddenly, Lin Fang stopped hesitating and delivered a powerful kick to Lin Tianxiong's back.

"I don't like the look of you, have a kick first!"

The kick made Lin Tianxiong let out a muffled groan as he fell hard onto the ground.

"Xiao Fang, what are you doing? I'm your father! I'm the one who raised you since you were a child!" On the ground, the disheveled Lin Tianxiong's eyes were filled with disbelief.

Meanwhile, Lin Fang fell into a daze. It wasn't because of the man's words, but because after that kick, something had suddenly flooded into his mind.

It was a long stretch of memory.

In the memory, he had obtained a mysterious Black Watch and named it Black Star. What followed was a life like a cheat-code: Xiao Hei, the Hades Chip, the Bright Council, Civilization Science City, Third-Party Technology, the Face Stone...

In a short span of time, a torrent of several years' worth of memories surged through Lin Fang's mind.

The protagonist inside... was himself!

Then, Lin Fang was struck by a sudden realization. So that's how it was...

Lin Fang's eyes flickered as he looked at the middle-aged man. He stepped forward, looking down at him, and pointed the gun at him.

"Stop pretending, it's pointless now. What exactly are you? No, let me rephrase that—should I call you Shiki Shizuku, or Shiki Kasumi?"

"Actually, that's not right. Your sister Shiki Shizuku is dead, so you must be Shiki Kasumi."

These two were the protagonists from the movie 'thorn king of the ancient city,' and they were the key to Lin Fang's original suspicion regarding the source of the human faces.

"No, impossible! How could you wake up? How could you possibly discover me!"

By now, Lin Tianxiong's expression had finally changed. His voice was no longer the same, transforming into a sharp, trembling female voice with a weirdly layered audio effect, full of coldness.

"Don't panic, I'll tell you right now..."

Lin Fang emptied the magazine directly into her. However, the expected scene of blood and flesh flying everywhere did not occur.

The bullets seemed to hit viscous rubber. No blood flowed from the wounds; instead, dark red thorn-like matter surged out. The bullets were forcibly spat out by the writhing muscle and thorns, clattering onto the ground.

Damn it. Refusing to believe it, Lin Fang swapped in a new magazine.

Lin Tianxiong's body shuddered violently under the impact of the bullets. The face skin almost completely peeled off, revealing a non-human face underneath composed of countless interwoven dark red thorns and grayish-white woody structures. One could still vaguely see a feminine outline, but it was hideous and terrifying.

Her voice became even sharper, carrying a spine-chilling malice. "It's useless. You can't kill me. I want you to die here, die here..."

Rumble—!!

A massive noise approached rapidly from the distance. The suburban woods suddenly rustled loudly as several times more police cars than before appeared in his field of vision.

Armed helicopters!

And there was more than one. Lin Fang's eyes narrowed, and he immediately chose to run. In his current state, he was no match for them.

At the same time, he thought to himself: Is this the rule of this weird killing game? To lead others to kill him? From the four smugglers to the police squad, and now to this massive formation meant to arrest a desperate criminal—it seemed to follow a certain logic.

"And it can even increase Sin Points? Do you think you're playing Grand Theft Auto?"

Lin Fang grumbled and darted into the nearby mountain forest. But despite using all his tricks, dodging and weaving through the rugged mountains and using the terrain and vegetation to hide, he was still hit in the shoulder by a bullet amidst the widespread manhunt.

Lin Fang hid under a rock like a lump of mud. Exhaustion combined with the injury made his head spin, and he couldn't even speak.

I'm not going to die here, am I? If I die here, will I really be dead in reality?

His consciousness gradually blurred. Lin Fang thought back to the slight joy he felt when he first got the Black Star, because it contained infinite possibilities; it was what allowed his life to stop being ordinary.

Right, I can't die.

I now have supreme power, wealth that could rival a nation, a company that spans multiple worlds, and I still have to save the world...

I haven't enjoyed it enough yet. How could I die so pathetically in this hellhole, at the hands of this anomaly?

I cannot die!!

An endless desire to survive surged from Lin Fang's heart. A short black mark suddenly appeared between the young man's eyebrows. This had appeared after spending a civilization's worth of plunder points; he still didn't know what it did, only feeling it was a manifestation of an upgraded level of genetic optimization.

Lin Fang only felt his brow become burning hot, as if something was breaking through the soil.

Suddenly, Lin Fang felt a power awaken in his brain. He was very familiar with this power—it was his Force Field, the Electromagnetic Force, one of the four fundamental forces of the universe.

Lin Fang's gaze calmed down again. He immediately used the Force Field to eject the bullet from his shoulder, while simultaneously using the Force Field to connect every severed blood vessel and bone.

This wasn't healing in the true sense; it was just using the invisible Electromagnetic Force to wrap around them, forcing them to maintain their proper functions.

Looking at the helicopters roaring overhead, Lin Fang showed a ferocious expression. He was no longer afraid.

Lin Fang flew high into the air, enveloped in his Force Field. With a wave of his hand, that helicopter and the one behind it exploded out of thin air, turning into fireballs that crashed into the forest.

After doing this, Lin Fang ignored the police officers in the forest who were stunned by the sudden turn of events, and cast his gaze directly at the middle-aged man who was secretly peeping from the shadows.

His "father."

Within the range of his Force Field, the man was as clear as a bright lamp.
