64: Chapter 64 Appropriate sacrifices are more precious

...

The crowd was like a startled colony of ants, fleeing in all directions as reason and order collapsed in an instant.

As the first elderly person was knocked down, a stampede occurred. Chest to back, breath pressing against breath, all forward momentum became a ladder for others to reach heaven.

Or perhaps hell.

After Evan Wilder woke up from a nightmare once again, he felt that he was the one who should go to hell. If he had given that old man a hand that day, would things have been much better?

Over half a month had passed since he personally saw President LK turn into a living corpse. From the day more than 100 "T-Virus" missiles flew from out of nowhere and landed across the Americas, his country was destined to be finished.

Fortunately, his hometown was quite a distance from New York, rendering the terrifying virus, which could be airborne in its early stages, ineffective. Three T-Virus missiles had exploded in New York, turning it completely into a city of zombies.

He and his parents were now trapped in their home. The first and second floors were locked tight, and they only moved about on the third floor. Every day, they lived cautiously, not daring to make the slightest sound for fear of attracting the attention of the zombies wandering the streets.

This small town had become their playground.

"We're almost out of food," a woman around forty-five years old said with a worried expression as she took a pack of biscuits from the cupboard.

"I'm going out."

A burly man with a large beard sitting in a chair pushed the bag of biscuits away and said bluntly, "They aren't fast. As long as we're careful, there won't be any problems."

Evan stood up. "Father, I'll go with you."

"Get lost. Stay home and protect your mother. I'll be back as soon as possible," the bearded man said, then picked up a double-barreled shotgun and tiptoed down the stairs.

Watching his departing figure, Evan and the woman could only pray in their hearts that he would return safely.

But until evening,

Blown Wilder had not returned.

Seeing the sky grow darker, Evan couldn't sit still. He picked up an iron rod over a meter long and prepared to go downstairs, but the woman, eyes red, stopped him.

"Don't go. It's too dangerous. Promise me."

Sigh, she was clearly more worried than he was. Evan hugged her and said gently, "Don't worry, Mother. If I don't go out today, I'll regret it for the rest of my life."

"You have to believe in me."

Evan gave her a firm look and turned to go down the stairs. On the first floor, Evan taped books to his arms and legs. After confirming there were no issues, he opened the door.

Facing the street that had become unfamiliar,

Evan gripped the iron rod in his hand tightly, took a deep breath, and stepped out.

Pa! He stepped into thin air.

The echo of the iron rod hitting the ground rang out in the silent night. The last thing Evan Wilder's consciousness heard was a cry of alarm from upstairs.

Sigh, what a shitty life.

—

If he hadn't come, would this lucky unlucky bastard have just fallen to his death?

With a hint of confusion,

Lin Fang climbed up from the ground and surveyed his surroundings by the faint moonlight. The air was thick with the stench of rot, and the small street was a mess.

Two corpses lay on the roadside ahead. This wasn't because Lin Fang had good eyesight, but simply because those four lumps of unidentified matter smelled too bad.

That's right, the style of an apocalyptic town.

Just as he was about to confirm further, footsteps came from behind, followed by the door opening. A foreign woman came out with teary eyes and hugged him.

"Evan, are you okay?"

Hearing this, his identity was initially clear. At this age, he couldn't be her husband, and looking at the environment, the law enforcers here had disappeared. Without law enforcers, Lin Fang felt he could be more unscrupulous.

"Ma'am, I'm sorry, but your son is dead,"

Lin Fang gently pushed her away and said with a warm smile, "Or rather, we need to start playing a game. As long as it's successfully cleared, he can survive."

"This requires everyone's cooperation."

"Evan, what are you saying..."

Lucianna looked at this young man who had the same face but a completely unfamiliar expression and took two steps back in terror.

He-he-he—

At that moment, several zombies shuffled out of the darkness, and there seemed to be a giant creature in the shadows in the distance.

"Quick, get inside!" Lucianna said urgently.

Lin Fang had no intention of showing off his marksmanship in front of her; it was pointless. He followed his "mother" into the house.

The urgent task was to figure out what happened. Hadn't Isaac been blown to death by him? How did the T-Virus still spread so severely?

On second thought, this seemed okay. It added some monster-slaying fun to his scavenging journey. There must be plenty of good things in this world besides the T-Virus; he didn't want to get the 1% weight pity prize every time.

Outside,

A few "cuties" were constantly pounding on the door. If the door of this house hadn't been reinforced with iron bars, they would have broken in long ago. It was also due to the architectural style of American towns—everything was focused on simplicity and comfort.

"Sir, can you tell me what happened to Evan... I beg you to leave my son's body. He's still young, I can replace him..."

Lucianna pulled Lin Fang directly to the third floor and then pleaded with a sorrowful face. She knew her son wouldn't make such a joke. Something had really happened to Evan, and now her husband's whereabouts were unknown.

For a moment, Lucianna was in despair.

Lin Fang stopped her from kneeling. After all, he inherited the traditional virtues of respecting the old and loving the young from the Central Continent. He acted openly and honestly throughout his life, so there was nothing to hide.

After a few minutes,

Lin Fang explained the rules of this game to Lucianna as much as possible, saying he was the one who saved the unlucky bastard who was about to fall to his death.

"Sir, do you mean Evan can return in six months at most?"

Hope appeared in Lucianna's eyes. Faced with this situation, she had no choice but to believe.

"There will definitely be a result by then."

Lin Fang nodded. He wasn't sure if he could clear it in one life. It was also possible he would die heroically like James; originally, James could have lived.

Unfortunately, Lin Fang felt that appropriate sacrifices were more precious.

Shortly after,

When Lin Fang learned what had happened in the resident evil world while he was adapting to his new power, he couldn't help but gasp at the Umbrella Corporation's madness.

On the day President LK and the American high-level officials died, sky-blotting "T-Virus" biological intercontinental missiles radiated globally from the American mainland at speeds over Mach 25. The Western Hemisphere basically fell, becoming a playground for the infected.

The situation in the Eastern Hemisphere was much better, as they were clearly prepared. Most of the missiles flying over were intercepted outside their borders. Although a few small countries were victimized, most people survived.

Because the internet had long been disconnected, this was the intelligence Lin Fang pieced together from the scattered information Lucianna knew.

How many people were in the Western Hemisphere of the resident evil world? About 2.6 billion. Rounding off, roughly 2.5 billion people joined the glorious biological evolution, along with countless animals.

Lin Fang felt it would be difficult for the Eastern Hemisphere to reclaim the Western Hemisphere.
