181: The Vietnamese classmate whose girlfriend was stolen
Li Qinghe found a parking spot near Hanoi University, parked his car, and walked to the school's back gate.
Just like every university in China has a back gate, this area is typically bustling with numerous restaurants and convenience stores, and Hanoi University is no exception.
"Li Ge (Brother Li), let's go this way."
Wei Shichao and Xiong Hui were already waiting there, and seeing Li Qinghe's tall figure approach, they happily waved to him.
Next to Hanoi University, there's a large residential area. Wei Shichao and his group led Li Qinghe through the residential area, winding left and right, walking a considerable distance, and finally entered the gate of a residential building.
The residential buildings in this area might be older, so the planning was a bit chaotic, and the small paths inside were also crooked.
This gate was a shared entrance for several residential buildings, and between the houses inside was a small, shared courtyard.
Wei Shichao and Xiong Hui led Li Qinghe down a narrow alley between two of the houses.
"Li Ge (Brother Li), be careful not to hit your head."
Xiong Hui turned back to remind Li Qinghe. The alley was very narrow and dark, with some ropes and wires hanging overhead. Li Qinghe was quite tall, and he might hit his head if he wasn't careful.
Li Qinghe followed them, turning a few more corners, and entered a narrow staircase that could only fit one person.
This staircase was built using the gap between two buildings, an external staircase, not connected to the rooms inside the houses.
They climbed up using their phone flashlights.
"What kind of place is this? It feels like the tunnel warfare back in China."
Li Qinghe asked Xiong Hui, who was walking in front, with a smile.
"Li Ge (Brother Li), bear with us. This is a local specialty here. You won't be disappointed later."
Xiong Hui also smiled and reassured him.
"That's right, Li Ge (Brother Li), you'll discover a different world once we get up there."
Wei Shichao, who was leading the way, also turned back and said.
Like climbing through a tunnel, they kept climbing until they reached what seemed like the fifth floor, where they saw light ahead, and then a small bar counter appeared before them.
Beyond the bar counter was a small bar set up across the entire rooftop.
A tin shed was built over the top with steel frames. Looking over the waist-high wall, one could see the myriad lights of the surrounding residences and the motorcycles weaving through the distant streets.
This was a perspective of Hanoi that Li Qinghe had never experienced before, very down-to-earth.
"Li Ge (Brother Li), let's go over there."
Wei Shichao pointed to a corner of the bar, which was a rooftop corner. A row of chairs was set up along the wall, with small tables in front of them.
In Vietnam, whether it's a restaurant or a coffee shop, due to limited store space, many such small tables or stools are used as tables.
"The environment here is pretty good. Have they not arrived yet?"
Li Qinghe looked around. The entire rooftop bar was about eighty square meters. There were currently three or four tables of guests drinking and chatting around small tables.
The bar counter was playing soft piano music, making the entire bar space feel very relaxed and comfortable.
"Li Ge (Brother Li), they'll be here soon. Let's go sit down first."
Wei Shichao and Xiong Hui led Li Qinghe to the outermost corner seat. Because the space was very open, the breeze blowing through felt very cool.
Wei Shichao ordered six bottles of Tiger Beer. The drinks at this bar weren't overpriced; a bottle of Tiger Beer cost fifteen thousand vietnamese dong, which is a little over four dragon country currency, basically a very common price in Hanoi.
"I'll pay," Li Qinghe pulled out a one hundred thousand vietnamese dong banknote.
"Li Ge (Brother Li), someone else is treating tonight. I've got it all covered."
Wei Shichao grinned and paid first.
The three of them sat by the wall. Xiong Hui opened three bottles of beer and handed them to Li Qinghe and Wei Shichao respectively.
"Come, a toast to Li Ge (Brother Li). Welcome, Li Ge (Brother Li), to our gathering."
Wei Shichao clinked his beer bottle with theirs and took a sip.
"What's the theme of your gathering tonight?"
Li Qinghe took a sip of beer, put down the bottle, and asked casually.
"Li Ge (Brother Li), do you remember that classmate I mentioned whose girlfriend was stolen by Ruan Wuxiong?"
Wei Shichao was about to tell Li Qinghe the reason for tonight's gathering when suddenly, three boys emerged from the bar's stairwell.
"They're here."
Wei Shichao went to meet them, bumping shoulders and fists with the boys, then led them to their drinking spot.
"Let me introduce everyone. This is Li Ge (Brother Li), and these are A Jun, A Jian, and A Song."
Wei Shichao introduced everyone to each other. The newcomers were all local Vietnamese students, typically slender with deep facial features and slightly thick lips.
Perhaps because they were university students, they also paid attention to sun protection, so their skin didn't appear too dark.
These students politely shook hands and greeted Li Qinghe.
Wei Shichao had already opened and handed them the other three bottles of beer.
"Come on, brothers, let's have a drink together."
The Vietnamese student named A Jian held up his beer and invited everyone to clink glasses. Their toast was simple; everyone just shouted "Yo!" and that was it.
A Jian excitedly wiped his mouth with his hand: "It was so exhilarating. Watching Ruan Wuxiong get arrested by the public security, I almost stood in front of him and sang a song."
"Li Ge (Brother Li), A Jian is the one whose girlfriend was stolen, and he's treating tonight."
Wei Shichao told Li Qinghe in dragon country currency.
Li Qinghe suddenly realized, so it was him: "Was that Fa La arrested by the public security?"
This was asked to A Jian in Vietnamese.
"Brother He (Brother Li), do you also have a grudge against him?"
A Jian looked at Li Qinghe with a puzzled expression, then turned to Wei Shichao.
"Come on, A Jian, let me make a grand introduction. Li Ge (Brother Li) is the expert who single-handedly took down Ruan Wuxiong and his 23 men."
Whoa! This statement made A Jian and the others instantly stand up, almost overturning the beer on the table.
A Jian didn't even bother to steady the beer bottles, bending over directly and excitedly wanting to shake Li Qinghe's hand again.
Yesterday, Wei Shichao told him that he would bring a Chinese big brother to the small gathering.
He thought it was just Wei Shichao's friend, and in his happy mood, he readily agreed.
He never expected that the big brother Wei Shichao brought was the fierce man who single-handedly took down Ruan Wuxiong's gang.
Li Qinghe smiled and extended his hand. A Jian gripped it tightly: "Brother, thank you for helping me vent my anger."
"That's because he was blind. Did you just say Ruan Wuxiong was arrested by the public security?"
"Yes, not only was Ruan Wuxiong arrested, but many of the people with him were also taken away. Brother, you don't know..."
A Jian's expression was excited, even a little agitated, and he continued to narrate with a slight tremor in his voice.
He was a person who could endure a lot and had a strong desire for revenge. Yesterday, Wei Shichao said he had been tracking Ruan Wuxiong and his gang, figuring out where their gathering place was.
This time was no exception. After learning that Ruan Wuxiong and his group had been severely beaten, he excitedly rushed to the hospital to watch the commotion. He saw a group of previously arrogant people with bruised faces, and some of the usually most Arrogant ones were even using crutches, seemingly unable to move one leg.
Everyone was dejected, and those using crutches looked ashen, as if they couldn't accept that one of their legs was immobile.
He felt as comfortable as if he had drunk a large cup of iced coffee.
He was immensely grateful to the fierce man who had beaten up this group, and much of the frustration he had suppressed for almost a year had dissipated.
He used his tracking skills and followed the group back to the house where they lived.
This morning, he skipped class again to watch the fun. He found it very enjoyable to see those arrogant people walking with crutches.
As a result, he saw four or five police cars arrive at the entrance, taking away about ten people from the house.
He immediately followed them to the public security bureau to watch the excitement.
After a long speech, A Jian chugged a mouthful of beer: "You know what, I spent 3 million vietnamese dong to hear a mind-blowing story from a public security officer."
