327: Another money-grubber

Emily and Chen Daisy exchanged glances, then turned to the waiter and asked him in unison, "Is it the tall and handsome one from the table of five?"

"Yes, ladies. That gentleman said you two should drink to your hearts' content, just don't get drunk. He'll pay for all your expenses tonight."

"Ooh~~ Look at this rich and considerate man, isn't he quite charming?"

Chen Daisy elegantly raised a light blue cocktail, examining it closely under the lights.

"I'm really suitable for a man like him. I don't even care if he has several girlfriends."

"But what about David from your company who's been pursuing you for so long?"

"If he really likes me, I might consider letting him have some involvement by using the rubber products he buys."

"Daisy, you're really cruel."

Emily looked at the sexy Chen Daisy in front of her and offered an awkward smile.

"Alright, dear, the boss is paying, so we can have a few more drinks tonight. Cheers."

Chen Daisy clinked her glass with Emily's.

"That's my boss, you know. He said not to get drunk."

Emily didn't know why, but today she suddenly wanted to argue with Chen Daisy.

Was it because Chen Daisy had expressed such covetous thoughts towards Li Qinghe?

Emily couldn't figure it out at the moment, but not understanding the problem didn't stop her from drinking.

With some unresolved thoughts, Emily and Chen Daisy frequently clinked glasses.

Enjoying the breeze, sipping wine, and having some barbecue, life was wonderful.

"Today is the most enjoyable time we've ever had drinking together."

Chen Daisy, slightly tipsy, swayed her wine glass. Five or six empty glasses were already on the table.

"Free wine just tastes better."

Emily smiled as she looked at her wine glass, her gaze passing through it, seemingly already seeing another face appear before her.

"Look, I drank so fast with you that I'm a bit drunk and hallucinating. I actually see the boss standing in front of me."

Emily lazily rested her head on the table, propping it up with one hand. She blinked, and found that Li Qinghe was still standing in front of her.

"Oh, boss, why are you here? Hello, Director Zhang."

Emily sat up straight. It turned out that what she had just seen wasn't a hallucination, but Li Qinghe arriving with Zhang Rui.

"I was waiting for you to come over and toast, but I didn't expect you two to be having so much fun on your own, so I had to come over with Director Zhang."

Li Qinghe smiled, holding a glass of wine.

Already a bit tipsy from drinking, Emily, emboldened by the alcohol, pouted and half-jokingly complained.

"Boss, you Dragon Country People are really troublesome. It's my off-duty time now, and you're still waiting for me to toast you. It's really bureaucratic."

"But thank you for the drinks! Daisy and I are having a great time."

Hearing Emily's playful complaint,

Li Qinghe let out a wry laugh and turned to Zhang Rui: "Brother, are all Singaporeans this cheeky?"

Zhang Rui made a helpless expression: "It's not like our China here, where human connections are so important. Just doing your job well is enough."

"Director Zhang is right! Just doing your job well is enough. All that socializing and entertaining is so tiring. Boss, don't add extra burdens to yourself!"

Emily stood up with a smile, tilting her head as she looked at Li Qinghe.

There was some truth to her words. Li Qinghe thought about his past experiences in the workplace.

At that time, he also hated those leaders who organized all sorts of activities and social events.

He never expected that after becoming a boss himself, he would also start showing signs of this.

It's truly ironic how you end up becoming what you hate.

After realizing this, Li Qinghe readily admitted his mistake:

"You're right. We shouldn't be doing all these things after work. Singapore isn't a society based on personal connections, so you two can pay for these drinks yourselves later."

As soon as Li Qinghe finished speaking, Emily froze. Was such a move even possible?

"Boss, don't be like that! There's no need for personal connections at work, but after hours, as friends, we can talk about friendship!"

A pair of soft small hands wrapped around Li Qinghe's arm.

Li Qinghe turned his head and saw that it was Emily's friend who had directly made a move.

Seeing Li Qinghe turn to look at her, she even smiled and greeted him.

"Hi, I'm Daisy. In Dragon Country People, it's Chen Daisy."

Chen Daisy spoke this sentence half in English and half in Dragon Country People.

Perhaps it was because he had seen too many young Dragon Country People girls in Singapore who couldn't speak Dragon Country People.

This girl in front of him, who could speak Dragon Country People, immediately made Li Qinghe feel a sense of goodwill. From the fact that she could speak Dragon Country People, she should be of Dragon Country People descent.

He just didn't know if she had forgotten her roots.

"Do you think personal connections are useful?"

"Yes, of course they are! Otherwise, the boss wouldn't treat us to drinks, Emily, am I right?"

Chen Daisy echoed Li Qinghe's words while winking at Emily.

But her small gesture was clearly seen by Li Qinghe.

"Alright, you two don't need to send secret signals anymore. I was just joking earlier. Drink as much as you want, but make sure you stay safe."

Li Qinghe smiled as he gently pulled his arm out of Chen Daisy's embrace.

He hadn't paid attention, and this girl had actually given him the 'gentle bomb' treatment. The heavy sensation wasn't bad.

"I do have a girlfriend, you know."

"So, do you mind having one more?"

"What are you after then?"

"I'm after your good looks, and that you can give me a high-quality life. The cost of living in Singapore is actually quite high, and I want to get a secure life from you."

Chen Daisy straightforwardly expressed her thoughts.

Her words immediately stunned two people: Emily and Zhang Rui.

"Ahem, He Zai, I'll go over to your sister-in-law's side first. You two take your time talking."

At this moment, Zhang Rui just wanted some peace and quiet. He really couldn't believe that a scene he had only seen on TV was actually happening right in front of him, and the protagonist was his own cousin.

So, he quickly said goodbye to Li Qinghe, picked up his wine glass, and hurried back to Su Yao's table.

When he returned and saw Lilia, he was still a bit embarrassed, only saying that Li Qinghe had some company matters to discuss there.

Lilia didn't suspect anything and continued chatting, drinking, and eating oysters with Su Yao and the others.

After Zhang Rui left, Chen Daisy again embraced Li Qinghe's arm.

"Boss, this is my first time discussing such terms. I'm still pure, and I don't know what's wrong with me, maybe it's the alcohol today."

"I speak English, French, and Dragon Country People. I also studied business management in university. I think I'm very valuable."

"But now the cost of living in Singapore is getting higher and higher, and Singapore doesn't have a pension..."

Emboldened by the alcohol, Chen Daisy completely ignored Emily, whose mouth was agape in surprise beside her, and blurted out everything she wanted to say.

Chen Daisy said her family was ordinary. Although they lived in an HDB flat, their quality of life meant eating at hawker centers every day, just enough to get by.

Her current monthly salary of 7,000 singapore dollars, after deducting daily expenses for food and cosmetics, plus two trips to East Asia or Southeast Asia each year,

She could only save about 2,000 singapore dollars per month.

It was too far, too far from the life she dreamed of, living in luxurious villas and driving luxury cars.

Although she had so many ideas and desires, she didn't want to give herself to an old man or a pot-bellied middle-aged man.

Today, seeing the young and handsome Li Qinghe, and after provoking Emily, learning about his wealth, she decided to take a chance, fueled by the alcohol.
